Here is something that I thought about in asking for the elders of the church to anoint me with oil...

It looks like the operative word here is "elders"...this means elders in the faith...just because someone has been a Christian for 50 years doesn't mean that they know Christ and what He has done for us. They could still be a baby Christian.

It says the "prayer of faith"..shall save the sick....if an "elder " is just "hoping" something will happen...then that "elder" is not really praying in faith....and of course nothing most likely will not happen.

There is not one instance where Jesus refused to heal someone when they came to Him......

I've gone to Him thousands of times, asking for healing..Begging for it.

there are many people that were around Him that did not come to Him to be healed....for instance the guy at the poll that was there for 38 years...Jesus came to him specifically and asked him if he wanted to be healed.

...there are many instances where people on their own - by their faith touched Jesus and they were healed...He didn't even know that they were there until He felt power come from Him...the woman with the issue of blood..

There are many ways for healing according to the scriptures...getting it from your own faith....someone operating in a gift of healings...laying on of hands...calling for the elders...

I've had elders anoint me with oil, pray over me and lay hands. Even they couldn't heal me.. If I could reach out and physically touch Jesus, I would. :)

Amen...I hear ya'

One day physically we all will feel His arms wrap around us! I have felt His love on me when the Holy Spirit came upon me a few times in my life. It was so overwhelming...so full of acceptance and love....in those times I could do nothing but weep and I couldn't move a muscle...His love is so over powering.

But I can't live from those experiences...He always deals with me to believe in what He has said to me. ( That is the hard part...for me anyway )...but He is faithful and is teaching me....I love Him and trust Him!

I've had elders anoint me with oil, pray over me and lay hands. Even they couldn't heal me.. If I could reach out and physically touch Jesus, I would. :)

Is it possible to have an idolatry of healing?
Shadrack, Meshack, and Abenigo said "The Lord will deliver us, but even if he doesn't we will not bow the knee to the King and his statue."
Somehow people have linked faith to an easy path, without trial or issues.

It is obvious with millions of christians in this world, the normal course of events is dealing with life through them, not transforming them. In the end are we following a magic zap of lifes issues or having love overcome them.

According to your belief, seems like God only heals if some condition is met...in other words, 'If I am a certain way or have a 'right belief' or faith, then God will heal me'. Seems to me if God was a God of compassion and love AND he was able to heal suffering people, then He would...in other words, why would a compassionate God make healing a person conditional, especially in light of "God so loved the world (that is everyone on the earth)...". This is particularly true when it comes to little children. There are millions of little children who are enduring some serious suffering, so why doesn't God heal them?

Because faith is about love not being bought out of difficult situations. If everything was believe in me and you are always well, the God health plan would be fully subscribed but few would be there for the right reasons, just fringe benefits.

Good questions...I suppose the answer is in this..."why don't all people get saved when they hear the gospel of the grace of Christ?"....when that question is answered...it will answer the other questions we have ...but there are times where God does through the gifts of the Holy Spirit heal people without any of their involvement....why that happens?..I don't know..I suppose we can ask Him that when we see Him..

In the meantime it will serve us well to reread and study the scriptures and watch Jesus in the scriptures as He is the exact representation of the Father's heart and will for us.

We don't live by our or anyone else's experiences if it contradicts what the scriptures say about a subject no matter what our human reasoning says.

God did everything. Jesus took our sin and sickness upon Him. Now His church that is His Body on earth has to do it in His Name.

Mark 16:17-20 (KJV)

[SUP]17 [/SUP] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

[SUP]18 [/SUP] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

[SUP]19 [/SUP] So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

[SUP]20 [/SUP] And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

The back and forth here has gone on long enough.

My faithful Christian friend (after following the scriptures, having many people pray for her, and spending many days in prayer and fasting) lost his wife of 40 years (she was 59) to a brain tumor. She fully expected to be healed. She left us with a beautiful smile on her face knowing that finally God had healed her. Last month, during a routine surgery, we discovered that my friend's new wife had aggressive stage four cancer on her liver and stomach. We will go through the prayers, fasting and treatment again, knowing that God will heal her in his time, and according to his will.

Another faithful Christian friend lost her 8 year old daughter this week. The daughter never walked, never talked, never sat up, never fed herself, and by any medical rules should never have reached her first birthday. This child blessed everyone that she came in contact with. Everyone around her prayed that God would free this child from the body that she was trapped in and give her a "normal" life. God let her bless our lives for a while, and took her home to a glorious new body. She joined her 16 year old sister who left us last year. What a glorious reunion that had to be.

You see, God heals us according to his plan, not ours. He hears our petitions, and he answers them. The problem we have is that we refuse to listen for that answer. We are too busy telling God what we want, rather than letting him show us what we need. We need to stop looking for the "Gospel of God's grace" and start looking to the Grace of God's Gospel. Remember what Paul said.

2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Here's an exercise for those of you who are telling us that we are not healed because we do not believe. Walk through the cemetery of a church that espouses that belief and compute the average age of those in it. Do the same for a church
that espouses the grace of the Gospel of Christ. I suspect that you will find that the age is the same.

So, let me get this straight...if you as a dad, saw your child about to do something which would seriously injure them, you would allow them to 'not be bought out of that difficult situation', correct? Please address my comment on the suffering of little children and how God's "love" is allowing them to suffer because his love includes allowing them to suffer...

Even "THEY?" Elders are just men, and it has NOTHING to do with who they are in the hierarchy of the church. If you would like, I will post our sermon from last week where a woman told of God using a seven year-old child to speak physical healing to her.

I CAME TO HIM AND ASKED! One instance.

LADYBUG CAME TO HIM AND ASKED. Two instances.

Anyone else want to chime in?

John 21:25
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

And, strange enough "elder" means something in the Bible. It has a job description. So don't pass it off it's their fault. 1 Tim 3:1-7

I'm with Lynn. That's pretty vague. What is she supposed to be noticing?

I had fluid in my ear once -- behind the eardrum, until it popped it. They got the rest of the fluid out of the ear with a tiny vacuum cleaner and I was awake. I felt like a jumbo jet was gearing up to fly in my ear. And then when they were done, dizzy-nauseous set in because my equilibrium was out of whack. They did fix the problem but it was the most painful procedure I've even bee through. It was suffering, but it was also compassionate. The two aren't exclusive.
