I know it's based off the American Standard, but is it any good? Would someone who has studied the Bible deeply through the decades like it, or would that person bristle over the bad exegesis?

This is NOT a "I know a better version" discussion. I found a product that uses it, and I'm checking to see if the product is worth the money. If you have a better product, cool, but don't bother with the usual KJV only/KJV stinks/my Bible is better/"the way you know if a Bible is good..." merry-go-round such topics usually dwindle into.

A lot of people in my church love the Amplified Bible but I'm not a fan of it

I use it alongside others. You might compare it to the Expanded Bible which I prefer over the Amp.

The Amplified Bible has Bible verses with commentary notes added in. Just like with a paraphrase version of the Bible, use discernment when reading and don't solely rely on those translations.

Ahhhh, man? So this audio player is going to say "'In the beginning, God created..." which so-and-so says blahblahblah about, but such-and-such believers yaddayadda"?

Man! Is there no simple device that just plays the Bible as is? I'm simply trying to figure out ways hubby can hear God's word, since he hasn't been able to read it in months.

I don't like the Amplified because it is essentially someone's rewrite of the Bible...like I'm going to rewrite the Bible and add my personal take

Where can I buy an audio player version of that?
Dunno? But if you had asked me about an audio version of the Amp, I would have said the same until you linked the Amazon link. I personally wouldn't buy either in audio form...with all their parenthesis and intrjections and such...too confoooozing

I love The Word of Promise Audio Bible (NKJV) because it is straight reading, but with sound effects. You will hear the background noises of people, animals, wind or water. And each spoken part is taken by a different person. It makes the bible come alive.

It is pricey, but check it out.

Woohoo! You do know! You do know! This is our favorite version. Just couldn't find it. Thank you.

There is only one Amplified Bible that uses the actual Greek and Hebrew words and I don't happen to have that information at this moment.

This information may be higher criticism but this is what I'm taught.

I like it as a sort of reference book (if I want to know more about a verse, I might look it up in the amplified to see what it says).

[h=1] John 3:16Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
[/h] [SUP]16 [/SUP]For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([SUP][a][/SUP]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

[h=1]John 3:16Amplified Bible (AMP)
[/h] [SUP]16 [/SUP]“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [SUP][a][/SUP]only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Oh yeah! Hubby would definitely demand I return the device if he heard that version of the Bible. lol

Both, very good ways to study the Bible. IMHO, the Bible should always be studied in at least three or four versions.
And, unless you've been a Bible scholar for 40 years or longer, a few commentaries too. (Albeit, hubby won't be doing any comparing for a while.) Then again, I notice all my commentators keep quoting other commentators, (sometimes agreeing, and sometimes not), so maybe there is never a time to give that up.

Here is a comparison with the Expanded Bible (terrible for audio purposes)...

"[For] God loved the world so much that he gave his ·one and only [only; unique; only begotten; 1:14, 18] Son so that whoever believes in him may not ·be lost [perish], but have eternal life." Jn 3:16
