SIN BLIND

I'm sure that you all seen the Febreze commercials. Febreze is a air freshener that eliminates foul smelling odors. In these commercials, people become so use to these smells, that they become noseblind to them. However when other people comes around to visit, they do notice them.

Sometimes we Christians can have sins in our lives, in which we are so use to, we actually become sin blind to them. And when other people come to visit us, they will notice attitudes that they will say isn't Christ's Like.

David prayed to God this Prayer.

Psalm 139:23-24King James Version (KJV)

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Here is a Chinese proverb in which the author is unknown.

Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words.
Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions.
Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits.

I am sure I have sins I am blind to but for the most part my sins are all I see when I look inside myself, I have yet to be able to see what God sees when he looks at me and I have never had a high opinion of myself plus depression kind of adds to that.

But even so Something I love about the light that God radiates is that it exposes all the darkness in me but not in a condemning light and actually expels the darkness as if it was never there.

Although I could agree in principal with some of this post..the ability to walk and live in the Spirit is not found in looking at our sin, but found in looking at Our Deliverer ... Being sin conscience is not what the gospel teaches ..being righteousness conscience is.

LOL! yes, I have febreeze in a lovely citrus scent :o

I have prayed those verses from Psalm 139...we can really be needing to check our 'rearview' mirror sometimes

another verse or scripture I think is a good one for reflecting on is

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. PSALM 90:12

True! We need to look to our Saviour; but the closer we come to the Light, the more we will see the dirt that encrusts us.

I like the Chinese proverb, we can become so blinded of our own dirt that in thoughs times God sends another person in our lives to take the blind fold off our own eyes when that happens to me I refer to a old Chinese proverb.

Fall down seven times stand up eight :)

If our whole Christian walk is about finally figuring out that "nothing good lives in me" or to have "no confidence in the flesh"... then we have never passed the child development phase of our growth in Christ... Going around the same mountain of our sin again and again is what much of what folks are calling our Christian walk.... It is not! Walking in the Spirit is about faith in Christ and living in Gods righteousness ..The Divine nature will take over in a believers life, if they walk in the Spirit?
 
I see two sides of the same coin here. true enough the light of God shows us our sins it exposes every sin every darkness every bit of us that isn't of him, but to focus on it and to only see it even if we think we are being humble is not what he is intending.

Believe me I see myself as the chief of sinners I look in the mirror and I honestly don't recognize the face I see in fact I can't even look at myself in the eyes because it feels like I am staring at a completely different person and if you stare at someone n in the eyes that is a stranger to you like how can you not look away? I have a bad habit of beating myself up and condemning myself all I ever see is my sins my weakness my darkness my screw ups and I think about it all the time I see myself in ways that honestly even I think is too harsh but every single time an image appears in my mind of God looking at me with caring and loving eyes and a smile shaking his head as if I am being silly, when I see this image in my mind I know that he feels and sees the exact opposite that i do.

Instead of focusing on him I focus on me on my weakness my sins my screw ups when he reveled all of this with his light not to condemn or to make me focus on it but to have true joy and life and thankfulness because as great as my sins and darkness are the blood of Jesus washed it clean like it was nothing. when one has done soooo much wrong and they just can never ever make up for it when they receive forgiveness and receive a clean slate as if none of it ever happened they truly appreciate it.
I recall a scene from a movie I don't remember the movie or what it was about except that a person had accidentally killed a couples child because they were drinking and driving the parent were so extremely crushed and couldn't even look at the man who killed their son and this man was broken inside I mean he knew he could never ever make up for it he was a broken man,

but near the end of the movie the couple had their hearts changed and told the man they forgave him, the man was in tears. to be shown such kindness like that after what he did meant more to him than life itself he was bawling and couldn't stop.
I don't think the light shows our sins for us to focus on it but to instead show the depth and richness of his love and grace, and yet even I say this which I have no doubt is God speaking through me not to just reach me but others I am unable to believe it.

Talk about needing to take your own advice huh?
 
IMO, we ALL are blind to some of our sin. We are acutely aware of some of the sins we (and the sins of others - tsk tsk) own, but we are blind to the rest of our sin.

I want to add this thought ... When we clearly see what God has called us to be in the Spirit and find real life in the Spirit..the flesh is evident compared to the glory and beauty we are supposed to have in the Spirit. We do not grow in Christ by looking at ourselves, we grow in Christ by beholding Him in His Glory and then its evident what in us needs to conform to His beauty.

This digging around in the darkness of the flesh to find hidden sins, is just not how the New Covenant works.
