[5] When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. [7] And all the men were about twelve.
They were disciples about 20 years after Pentecost. They therefore believed on Jesus as taught to do by John the Baptist, and water baptized like we should, unto repentance, which Jesus carried on teaching, to Repent, believe my gospel.
Obviously there are more baptisms for believers, beyond that one most Christians today know about, of which relatively few have pursued. When the men heard Paul's word, they were baptized. Number 2. Being baptized into Christ by the Spirit is a very simple explanation, like the Hebrews were baptized into Moses, and the cloud, and sea experience. Then came the laying on of hands, and baptism #3, accompanied by speaking in tongues and prophesying.
Those men submitted to what the 120 submitted to 20 nearly 2 decades earlier, and the house of Cornelius experienced.
Want it all, receive it all. Until that happens the average Christian just won't be found speaking boldly in public about Jesus, and will struggle to gain elementary knowledge of his kingdom. With that you will go among hardened prisoners and preach and teach the gospel. You will stand when invited and preach to the salvation of hearers. With the fullness of the Spirit in you, nothing is impossible. The eyes and ears are opened to the Holy Spirit guidance we all need.
When I was first "saved" among the So. Baptists, I had confidence I had eternal life, but had no power, no confidence to even go witness Christ to someone else. I just couldn't accumulate knowledge to be confident to do that. I found some comfort in that when the pastor asked for people to join him after church to go door knocking, only one elderly couple always volunteered. 500 of us left for restaurants or big family meals.
But upon experiencing that last baptism by asking for it as a guest at a full gospel businessmen's meeting, I instantly comprehended all I had studied, and became a soul winner with boldness that very day. The other 500 back in the church stayed put, because that's the Baptist way. I moved on.
Ask, seek, knock. If the folks around you can't help, find a believer who offers to lay hands on you, then enjoy the infilling. Stay filled by mastering the word of God daily, and practicing what you learn. Then be ready to lay hands on others seeking what those men got. You will be different, and they will ask you.
