Christian Apparel: Is it good to rep your faith?

I've been debating on investing a third of my wardrobe into solely shirts and hoodies speaking God's message. Theres allot of Christian Apparel, But is it good to represent your faith daily? I'm almost afraid to because I go to a private college where God isnt the driving force. So its kinda scary. Thoughts?
 
When i was in HS nearly every shirt i owned was a Christian tshirt, or a Christian band shirt. Wasn't a big deal.

Absolutely! I wear Christian stuff to school pretty often. Do it :)
 
A few Christian shirts is good enough I would think. You don't want to give the message to the world that you spend a fortune on yourself. Cloth the homeless and less fortunate. Buy THEM Christian shirts. Invest God's money in heaven. Invest your treasures in heaven where moth and rust does not destroy. Go without so others can go with.

Matthew 6:31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Luke 12:33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Is it really for himself though? I assume that he wants to wear Christian apparel so that others can see God's word...and that would be investing in Heaven, would it not? Most of us want other people there. And they know who they can talk to if they have questions about Christianity. :) All depends on your motive, I guess; if it's to share the Gospel, I'd say that's a pretty good, Heaven-minded motive :p

But it's good to give to the homeless too :) Just not the only way to invest in Heaven. I think both are ways to do so (that don't exclude each other).

I wouldn't be too worried about expressing that you're a christian through your clothing. I would be more concerned with trying to convert others to Christ.... God isn't too worried about what you wear, as much as where your heart is at with him. :D

Third of your apparel huh? Are you like me and have only six shirts? Financial hit wouldn't be so hard in that case xD (Vs having 15 shirts)
 
There's nothing to say that because he wants to make his faith more obvious that it means he isn't more focused on being an active witness as well. In fact his consideration may expand his ability to be a witness. It's presumptuous to think if he wants to build up one area means he is less focused on other areas.
 
If you already have adequate clothing, DO NOT BUY MORE just to pay for slogans. Being a CONSUMER doesn't make you a better Christian. To me, it would be wasteful to toss aside an already existing wardrobe for the sake of "Christian" apparel.

That's a valid point actually. God isn't worried about what we wear so to speak, but if it creates an oppurtunity to witness, I think he would be very interested.
 
AmberJeanetteGardner....your advice is awesome! It helps focus on the real issue...JESUS, period....doing good to others, and not actually worrying over attire. Amen, sister!
 
jb....You are so correct. The world does judge us...as CHRISTIANS. I see that Madonna, Ozzie, and millions of other celebrities wear crucifixes in public...but we know instantly that they are not reflecting what that empty cross stands for, nor the ONE who died on it for their sins.

What in the world is 'Christian Apparel' The only things I know are Monks and Nuns Habits. I wouldn't think hoodies were thought of as Christian. When they were first worn here, they were associated with Muggers and people wearing them were banned from shopping precincts.

Funny this thread started... I was kicking around the idea of a kickstarter or go-fund me project for Christian clothing ...:)

The fact is, Jesus does not require you to advertise your faith. You musty ALWAYS acknowledge Him if in front of others and spread the Good News to those in need... the question is, if you can handle the attention it will bring... esp in college where they love pitting science against religion....and destroying a young person's faith... it's sickening what tenured professors can and DO say!

IF your faith is strong and you can ward off attacks with scripture... I say GO FOR IT!!

I love brave young Christians!! Where were you when I was 20??? lol!!

Don't be afraid.Just do it.It make you happy and blesed.It's naturely for His Children to confess Jesus before people.The next verses say some more about it, KJV.Matthew10;32-33,32.Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in Heaven.33.But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in Heaven.
