There are far too many people these days who believe there are still things they must do to obtain/keep salvation apart from repentance and faith.

But you cannot claim to believe Jesus died to pay for all of your sins, and then add something (or some "things") to the gospel.

Adding anything to salvation nullifies it. To work for a gift means it was never a gift at all.

Either God gets all of the glory for your salvation, or you do.

You can't have it both ways.

Having received an increase in faith recently ... I just wanted to offer a little testimony about it...


A couple days ago ... I used this scripture in one of my posts.


Let me contrast, with the same scripture, what was emphasized both to my old way of perceiving it and my new way.

MY OLD WAY


2 Peter 1:5-11
"5 For this very reason, MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ADD TO YOUR FAITH goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, THEY WILL KEEP YOU from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

Nowhere is there mentioned a path to salvation ... there IS though a mention that we have forgotten we have received it.


Must say not only do I see and understand more clearly, but I see and understand MORE.


I look forward to re-reading the bible with this newer, greater faith. :)

And that sister, is something that cannot be taught, but only caught. You've caught it, and now you have a whole new Bible. :D

Unfortunately too many people think God is impressed with the deeds they have done. But their deeds even if by human standards are "good" they are done in the power of the sin nature.

So true ... and what a wonderful thing to look forward to - a whole new bible -

You know, the first time I reached the last page of the Bible - I CRIED!
I was so sad that I had read all of God's words and that there was no more.
... Then I learned what "His word is alive" meant when I started a second reading. :)

Whoever says God is dull, or a journey with Him is dull ... doesn't know Him at all~

How do you becomes a christian? It is simple, you believe Jesus.
There are some here who do not how to walk with Christ. You clean the bowl on the inside and walk.
You can only do with with Christs blood and the cross. What people are telling me is I am not saved?
Wow. These guys are above Jesus's words, they are the ones who decides who walks in and who does not!!!
Nope. I do not know who is saved or not, I just know how to walk, how to love Jesus, how to learn what love, righteousness and purity is. If I walk with Jesus and you do not want to walk with me, it means something is wrong.

It is not me who called people names, it is they who said those guys over there are legalists. In every sermon it is condemning one group and deprogramming into the new ideas. The trouble is the very ideas they condemn God teaches.
That simply means they are not teaching from God. You cannot contradict the word of God. It is not a question of condemning or evil, it is bold simple heresy. But if you teach from scripture, amen.

The gospel is this simple. The world is broken, lost, denying love. God is love, wholeness, truth, openness and reality.
Jesus brings people from brokeness into love, truth, wholeness through the cross and repentance. The church is growing just on discipling on this basis. But people are so church orientated they do not know what sin is, and event their own legalism and then condemn the church for their own failure. The woman who washed Jesus's feet with her tears and hair.
Now that is love pure and simple. Walking in purity, holiness? Is there a problem here? Jesus can help you do this, but how serious are you, how open with your brothers around you? I bet you, if you are not serious about this and open with others and still condemn yourself because you are still compromising. It is that simple. Get the bowl clean and then talk and teach. It is not impossible it is just what Jesus means by repentance. If that is too hard from you, tell me where Jesus compromises with sin? No where. So get your act together, and start getting real.
 
Luke 10:39-42 (KJV)

39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with walking in holiness. I don't believe anyone here would have a problem with that. The point we are trying to make, is that your walk with Jesus has no bearing on your salvation. Works can't save you, nor can works keep you saved. Salvation is a gift from God alone - and the believer is kept by God - salvation is not predicated on how you live.

Works = the Law. People can deny this all they want, but works are simply people trying to keep the Law. Yet the Law is something that cannot be, nor ever could be, kept. It was never meant to be kept. It was given only to show men that they could never live up to God's standard through their own efforts.

If you try to add any works to salvation, you can never know if you are actually saved. Because your work will never be done. You won't know until you die, if you were successful or not. You will live with no assurance whatsoever.

Does that sound like "good news" to you?
 
Yes sir!..that does sound like "good news"!....well said.....and that is the gospel of the grace of Christ. Keep contenting for "the faith" which is Christ Himself and His finished work on our behalf.

Galatians 3:3 (NASB)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

Galatians 5:4 (KJV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Trying to be justified by the works of the The Law is self-effort ( flesh ) and not depending on Christ's work alone for salvation.

Better to be catholic. they have alot more works. and alot more ways, And if you still are afraid. Be muslim, Strap a bomb to your body, and go kill a few christians, You will get an automatic in no matter what you did in life..

That is not simple. that is complicated.

Because every religion in the world wants to have their say in what the "But" refers to. That's far to complicated, which one, or which church is right (the churches can nt even agree to what the "but" refers to) ll you have is confusion

Jesus answered that question. with no confusion.

I an the way the truth and the life, no one comes through the father, unless they come through me (the cross)

No and's if's or but's about it.
 
Yes mam!

And knowing that it is all Him and what He has done. He directs us by His life inside of us to work out outwardly what has already been done within us as new creations in Christ.

Resting in His finished work for us makes this scripture below come alive!

Matthew 11:28-30 (NASB)
[SUP]28 [/SUP] "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
[SUP]29 [/SUP] "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
[SUP]30 [/SUP] "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

The Message Bible brings this verse out beautifully...
