Tongues are not for Gentiles. Tongues are a sign for Jews. Praying in tongues is hyper-spiritualistic nonsense.

Jesus never prayed in tongues. Jesus never spoke in tongues.

The new tongue of Mark 16 is not what we know as Pentecostal or charismatic tongues but the new tongue of the testimony of Christ. Glorious tongue of grace over the law. Grace over works and a sure and certain hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

And who has to speak to the Jews? A gentile believer here spoke in Old Hebrew and a Jew got saved because of it.

And I heard too that Jesus got married to Mary Magdelane ....the stuff that the natural mind of man comes up with to dismiss the supernatural scriptural truths that Paul taught to the body of Christ by revelation of the Holy Spirit. Cornelius was a gentile...and so were the Ephesians.....and Corinthians..etc...tongues are foolishness to the natural mind of man.

what is the difference between praying (in your own language) and praying in tongues?

tongues as a language of a foreign nation, there are many examples in the bible, makes sense.

tongues as a unique heavenly language, almost nothing.

of all the great prophets such as Moses, Elijah and Samuel, no examples of this. and Jesus, the Son, the perfect union of this world and the heavens, one who had oneness with the Father, still no examples of this. seems strange.

The disciples on the mount of transfiguration couldn't hear/didn't know what was being said..... how about that?

Nice try at the red herring. The Gentiles who spoke were a witness to Jews that were present. Paul attested to such when he recounted the events before James and the other apostles in Jerusalem.

Demonstrate one instance in the modern church where tongues are spoken that resemble Pentecost. I would love to hear of one instance where a speaker spoke and others heard him in their native tongue.

Sad fact remains that none of the tongues followers can even show what the early church spoke in tongues. I really doubt that ecstatic utterances would be convincing even back then.

Jesus never said we would need a secret language to pray. The writer in Hebrews writes that we are to come into the presence of God and to come boldly. We come as children to our heavenly Father not as strangers but as beloved children. My Father in heaven knows my every hearts desire.

okie dokie..as I say..you can throw out all of Paul's scriptures out of your bible if you want....this situation is exactly like an atheist telling a Christian - there is no God.....and yet 100's of millions of God-fearing/loving Christians talk to their Father every day in other tongues as Paul preached and wished for every one to do so.

Could you understand an angelic tongue? We could throw half the bible out if we tried to understand things with our natural mind. To the natural mind all this is foolishness to him. 1 Cor 2:4

.you don't need to accept the gift of speaking in tongues...the Holy Spirit will not force you..

but here is some writings about tongues in the early church..

Coming boldly into our Father's throne has nothing to so with the speech we use....we have access through our Lord Jesus Christ

and the prayer in tongues, it would have more of a closeness, more of a connection with the Lord?

We are close because our spirit is joined to the Lord because we are one with the Lord..one spirit with Him. Praying in tongues doesn't make you closer...His blood did that....:)

I do know that with our mind we can pray amiss because we don't know everything but with our spirit we can't pray amiss as it is our spirit with the Holy Spirit that is praying.

If you go back and review what others and myself have said about speaking in tongues you can see the benefits. It's a great blessing from the Lord.

Another classic deflection. I have not done an despite to the scriptures in fact I have honored them as Gods perfect word. The church comprised of blood bought believers is a small remnant compared to the billions of unsaved people out in the world.

The Holy Spirit never acts in contradiction to the word of God. I have yet to see anyone demonstrate from the bible that what is going on in the modern church is even remotely akin to what was demonstrated in the apostolic church. There are no evidences of angelic tongues. It is evident that Paul was speaking hyperbole when he mentioned angelic tongues. There is not a single scripture of an angel speaking in anything except a human tongue. You can only speculate about angelic tongues or more reasonably use angelic as an adjective not a noun.

its hard to imagine a better way of praying than the examples of Jesus when He prayed.

I see..so we use our "human understanding" to nullify what scripture says even thou Paul says "Though I speak with tongues of men and of angels..." .

..I understand this offends the human reasoning mind...got it...anyway..it's obvious you don't want the gift so that is your choice....the Holy Spirit will not force you..

This is just going to be a waste of time..as I say this situation is like we can't make an atheist believe in God when he has chosen to believe God doesn't even exist to begin with.

This will be my last interaction on this subject......so bless you brother and have a great day!

This is a good scripture to govern our lives with in situations like this...

Romans 14:22 (NASB)
[SUP]22 [/SUP] The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.

Non of the Reformators teached about speaking in tongues ore healing AS it teached from pentecostal and charismatic movements. And also the signs which appeares along with getting the holy spirit in 1906, like moving and acting like animals ore laughing without control you will not find in the bible.
If this would be so important for US believers in our relationship with our father. Why they dont teached that? And does it means that belivers which cant speak ore pray in tongues, can not ha e such a near relationship, then somebody who speakes ore pray in to tongues?
And still you did not answered my question how it comes that in heretic groups ore pagans speaking in tongues?
You're mixing up the charismatic movement with the Pentecostal revival. They are nothing alike.

Hello. This caught my eye, let's look at this.

"Though I speak with tongues of men and of angels..."

What are the opinions of this statement? I was reading in my bible last night and I saw something that gave me pause for thought, in the book of Acts, 23:8 kjv. I was trying to remember it this morning, but I didn't write it down, and as I read this statement from a post above, I remembered, oh it was about angels.

Anyway, but, as I read a bit of the comments in this thread and then was struck by the use of this statement, I thought, is that a proper use, it doesn't seem so, and I had some scripture come into my mind about angels, devils even, and doctrine, prophesying, language. I am interested in opinions of the quoted statement, what do you think?

I comprehend that when angels speak in scripture, they communicate with words through language. As I saw my thoughts over the use of the quoted scripture above, I reasoned it was a misuse of the context and a product of not keeping under the body and holding to the Head, it was sensationalizing a doctrine of men, imo. What do think?

"tongues of angels", interesting term to examine.

[SUP]8 [/SUP]But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

[SUP]18 [/SUP]Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,[SUP]19 [/SUP]And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
