Since when was anybody at that time casting out demons? And be their judges?
 
Inherent in the Lord's statement is that there were Jewish exorcists at that time. He was pointing out how their own sons are accepted as casting out demons by divine power, but not the Lord Jesus? The Lord was pointing out their utter foolishness that they don't, then, accuse their own, doing the same destruction to Satan's domain, of paradoxically working for the devil, an hypocrisy that stands as an obvious testimony against them. Note apostles were doing these things, also, and this prior to Pentecost, Matthew 10:1 Jesus called his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits so they could cast them out and heal every kind of disease and sickness. That God's Spirit worked miracles among the Jews, like casting out devils, doesn't seem unreasonable, since He was their God, too, before Christ's advent.
 
Seems weird then people were so amazed that He casted out demons, like they never saw that before. But, thankyou for your answer. I didn't know there were Jewish exorcists. So by whom were their sons casting them out then? Seems odd these evil Pharisees had righteous sons. And that God did this for them without the H.S.? Honestly I just don't get the whole thing. Apparantly neither do 90+ people who viewed this thread.

Fear I don't know anything about ancient Jewish exorcism (maybe somebody else or something to Google?), was merely pointing out the Lord cited Jews casting out demons as a fact, so we must conclude this was so. Spiritual cleansing would have to be done by the power of God, and the Holy Spirit is the power of God. The Holy Spirit is in the Old Testament, was not foreign to men of God before Christ, naturally Old Testament prophets under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to author scripture.

Psalms 51:9-12 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Isaiah 63:10-11 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?

The baptism of the Holy Spirit, for all believers in Jesus Christ, was something new, with the revealing of the gospel of the New Covenant in Christ, but God's Spirit was working in men or with men, to perform His pleasure, down the ages. And would anybody have to have the Spirit indwelling in the Old Testament, to make a request of God, who can be omnipresent, who would surely hear the prayers of His elect, for all I know hears the prayers of a scripture ignorant heathen man, in some isolated foreign land, who honestly seeks God?

2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

It gets curiouser and curiouser, your post, the interesting questions it raises! But it doesn't seem strange Christ's eternal Spirit was always at work in His creation, before He came to us as Jesus, that same eternal Spirit of Christ, aka Spirit of God, that Jesus cast out devils by working with man since the Garden of Eden.
 
Oh! Forgot to add, a bad parent can have a good child. Nor were all the Pharisees evil. Nicodemus sought out the Lord Jesus, with respect. Isn't it tradition, anyway, that Nicodemus was saved? He also helped with the Lord's burial. Many Jews believed in or sought after Jesus during His ministry, crowds of people, disciples as well as the apostles. There are always the good and the bad.
