I have no experience with alzheimers, but if i was diagnosed this is what I would do if I were to self administer.

1.Choline supplementation. You can buy this at most health stores. As alzheimers progresses, the brain produces less and less acetylcholine. There are drugs based around this idea, but no case of straight choline supplementation being tried that I am aware of.

2. Nicotene. Nicotene actually mimics acetylcholine. I wouldnt start smoking cuban cigars but a nicotene patch would do. It has been shown that smokers have a lower chance of developing parkinsons because of this. While not the same thing, acetylcholine plays a role in both.

3. Antioxidants. Vitamin E, C, grape seed extract and things of that nature. Thats generally good for brain health anyway.

4. Noopept. Its a very cheap, chemical substance that can be bought online. though not natural per se, it is a class of chemicals called nootropics. It has been shown to help improve memory in healthy people. It is prescribed in russia as a way to reverse some of the brain damaged caused by alchohol abuse. My reasoning for adding that would be, it couldnt hurt. As for something to be called a nootropic, it has to be nontoxic with no ill side effects.

Im not saying you should do this, but if I were trying to battle the "uncurable". This would be the first four shots that came from my bow.

Here is a source to learn more about the disease itself https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/magazine/issues/fall07/articles/fall07pg8-10.html

Alzheimer's literally eats away at a person's brain. There is no cure for it. Remedies to help, maybe. But there is no cure.

A couple of cures have been found that work on mice, but testing continues and a people version is about ten years away.

Just read about a 1,000 person research project on Resveratrol and Alzheimer's and they have found that it slows and sometimes stops the progression of Alzheimer's. They didn't mention the dosage, but thought you would like to know that there is something out there that will help. Also they got results like theses from previous research, but it wasn't as controlled as this one. I was giving my sister Resveratrol supplements in a 50 mg dose and when I ran out I wondered why she seemed to be picking up the memory failure pace. Now I have a good idea why and when I get the new supply I plan to up the dosage. Maybe God has given us a big helping hand.

Also another way to delay/slow down alzheimers is to make the person do brain intense games such as memorizing things, matching cards turned upside down (helps recall ability), doing math problems...eating less fat b/c cholesterol can make your brain blood vessels clogged (not just your heart/arteries) and decrease blood flow to neurons means brain cells lack oxygen and die or are inefficient.

Donkeyfish gave some good advice but I would talk to your doc before starting b/c some herbals/alt. meds will interact with pharmaceutical drugs in very bad ways.

A glass of red wine has resveratrol in it, maybe not as much as the pills but if you like wine may want to choose the darker/red ones then the clear/champagne types....(no im not advocating alcholism ;)

Sorry to burst your bubble Ultimatum77, but recent research has proven that brain intense games do nothing to slow actual Alzheimer's. It will help other forms of dementia though and your other recommendations seem right on.

Now I am NOT trying to promote anything Illegal, (just trying to reiterate something someone told me, since my grandmother also suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia) I've read from (who knows if they're reliable or not) someone that hallucinogenic mushrooms can cure it. Never having done them, I couldn't tell you what the experience is like, or if it's worth reading into or not. Just felt like I should bring it up incase there's any Truth behind it. Maybe the term "Mind expanding drug" Really does apply. *shrug* Alzheimer's is a shrinking of the brain. Who knows, God works in mysterious ways. There's no denying they certainly mess with your physical brain at least. Try researching it. But, again... I can't advise you break the Law.

I've had my sister on Resveratrol for about a month now and there doesn't seem to be any progression of the disease. I am using 50 mg twice a day. I have also started her on sage which has helped age related dementia patients regain some of their memories, so I was hoping it might work on this. No difference so far, but it has only been two weeks, and half the dosage the bottle recommends, but the full dosage in the study of it.

You can treat it, but you cannot cure it. Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer's, and it literally eats away at the brain until the person dies.. Two of my aunts died from it within the last 5 years or so.

There have been some advances, but yet to be proven.
The first was the brain when you sleep appears to get washed, ie fluids are pumped through
the brain. It is not known why.

A protein that builds up in Alzheimer brains from plaques. These plaques appear to damage the
brain and cause death of brain cells. The treatment they are exploring is boosting Cannabinoids
that breaks down the plaque build up.

The promise might be no more Alzheimer but it is early days.

For Alzheimer's specifically, there is a treatment now available which can slow
down the progression, but it does not cure or stop it.

Its available on the NHS in the U.K but the earlier its caught the better. The problem
is a lot of people don't seek medical help at the very early stages.

Then there is also vascular dementia caused by varying degrees of strokes, there
is no cure for this, once brain cells are damaged they do not recover.

The best thing in either case is to live as healthy a life as possible and try to avoid
the problems which cause strokes, i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, clogged arteries etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if diet plays an important part in Alzheimer's caused by build up of
plaque in the brain as well.

Ive read various studies which indicate prolonged stress can be detrimental to brain
health long term. It's seems to be due to the effects on brain cells in response to stress
hormones. Also sleep disturbance can change the chemistry of the brain. Conditions like
sleep apnea can apparently increase the chances of alzameiers. But there is a lot of
research still to be done.

In fact I've read various things which suggest we underestimate the effects of
stress and the prolonged exposure of cells in the body to increased cortisol levels
due to due stress.

There are many bible verses about trusting in God having peace, resting in God etc.
The bible has the answer to many physical and physiological issues me thinks.

Don't leave God out of the equation either, pray pray pray.

Dr. Dale E. Bredesen gathered a whole list of things that he used in reversing Alzheimer's in 9 of 10 patients in a study. He says that ideally all should be used together. The mystery as to why the tenth patient did not respond during the six-month study remains. Individuality is a big factor. He likens Alzheimer's to a roof with 36 holes in it, so that the brain might not be fixed until the last factor is taken care of. It may be that the tenth patient needed some other holes plugged, or was already falling so fast that a turn-around wasn't possible in that short time. We are conditioned to that of a remedy as something that works alone, and many effective things are discarded for the reason that "it didn't do anything", and "there is no cure" becomes the mantra. Go through Dr. Breseden's list and do everything. I would be very encouraged that the addition of resveratrol seems to have arrested the progress of the disease.

I noticed that my mental acuity had suffered a lot, and also I had concerns that I might have a pituitary tumor and so I started eating turmeric with coconut oil and black pepper. According to the instructions I found, the turmeric should be dissolved in the coconut oil with heat before taking it. I cook a couple eggs in it six days a week. The pepper should be added unheated.I think that the pituitary tumor is regressing, judging from some effects coming in a ebb and flow way, and my mental acuity has improved remarkably ( I still am noticing a bit more improvement after about 1 year), but a concrete visible effect is that a mole on my leg is drying up into pieces and slowly falling off.

So, Crustyone, keep going and add the other things into the mix. Applying nutritional remedies is similar to spiritual remedies. They are both provisions of God and require faith. Faith is not "just believing" but holding on to the facts that (1) they make sense, (2) they have worked in others, and (3) God has a provision for our problems somewhere.

Cannabis is another hole plug that seems to show promise. Curcumin contains cannabinoids.

My grandma died of this and now my uncle was recently diagnosed with it. There is no cure, but the best way to go is to be proactive about it. Exercise regularly, have a good healthy diet, work your mind, body, and soul and at the end of the day REST!!!!!

So many people work their fingers to the bone to provide for their families, but rest and relaxation is of utmost importance when it comes to your health, if you don't you will pay the consequence later on

blue_ladybug, I suggest that you read the article that PeterJen posted the link to and do some more investigation into Cannabis. I am not a marijuana user and never have been, by the way.

I heard a guy once who cut out aluminium from his diet, and recovered.

Call me blase, but I think clean food and clean water probably would be half of the battle.

Enzymatic foods, e.g Kefir, are well-known to remove toxins and heavy metals.

Lots of veg...
