Also, just because I like Christian discussion, food for thought on this "name" subject... when Christ returns, He has a name, no one knows.

It's not blasphemy. The omg could mean oh my gosh, oh my goodness, etc.. Gosh and golly are NOT swear words, nor are they blasphemous.. If they say omg, and mean oh my God, then that isn't a good thing to say. I've always considered taking God's name in vain to be when someone says Jesus Christ in a swearful manner. Saying oh for God's sake isn't good, either. Though I have said it on occasion. :/
I took it to mean oh my god since next word was je.... in which we can gather what that means. Using God as a preface to a statement is blasphemy unless one is praying or talking about God.

Nice post, the doctrine is "taking" the Lord's name in vain, not "using" it in vain, right?

[SUP]7 [/SUP]Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
I don't believe it to be about speech at all. To take means to gain possession of something. I think it means that our possession and clinging to of God and His laws are to not lack substance or to be empty.

Cussing, it has no bearing on salvation or sanctification... have you read some of the church father's writings, wow! Although, I will say, not cussing, is pretty great and viewed as respectable manners. I watch my mouth, because I love & respect my grandpa and it is to his honor and this in turn is honoring myself, as a lady... thank you grandpa for your influence (smiling, even from heaven).
Cussing has no bearing on sanctification? Hmmm...
Profanity is a result of little sanctification or doing as the flesh desires... In fact. Since I am brand new to this site;I think I have my subject for a firsat post. I will provide scripture so it is a study of what God says about it and not mans vain thinking.

I think its blasphemy to use God's name to prevent saying a curse word I think its lukewarm to believe otherwise just saying.

Blasphemy in what way? What is this doctrine, should we start spelling it G-d or end everything with God willing? Christendom has a lot of self-will rules.

Years ago I knew this pastor's wife who came up with her own words.

She use to say things like, oh my settee, oh policemen, oh toilet cleaner!

It had the rest of us in hysterics. :D

I say God so much, whether in teaching, or praying, that sometimes when something "secular" wows me, or bothers me, the "Oh God" will just pop out of my mouth. I hope he doesn't mind.

You know what I think, to say "God gave me a word" or "God put this on my heart" or "God told me", is something way worse than saying omg. How about you, what do you think when someone attaches their thought to being from God or of God?

Sounds pretty lacking in substance and empty to me. If a person put "I think" or "I felt" in front of those phrases it leaves room to find out if there is any substance to it.....which is humility.

My mother uses omg or je..
Simply I told her that is a sin and she needs to repent of filthy language and using God's name in vain. Her response was that using God's name in vain is just saying a bad word followed by God. I disagree. And how do I help unsaved family members? God bless all.
In my Opinion, "Oh my God" is not filthy language, nor is it using God's name in vain. Jesus said, "My God, My God". I believe using God's name in vain is the selfish use of His name and purpose for your own benefit, glory, and purpose. Its using His name to make a living, condemn others, etc. "Whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things" (Philippians 3:19).... "For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple" (Romans 16:18).

Take, in my mind in accordance to our doctrine in this ministry, means to receive. For example, "take my yoke upon you", and learn from me. We should not take the instruction in righteousness by vain attempts of doctrines and commandments of men.

6 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

I wasn't going to say something but this is so bad I had to.

How can you say Jesus using his own words (scripture) when crying out to his Father in fulfilment of the redemptive promise to be the same as someone using 'oh my god' ? they are not saying in it in relation to bringing glory to the Father..

You don't know that for sure. I've heard people say "oh my God, please help me, please save me, get me through this". And their saying it as a plea for help, or an earnest prayer, and not as an expletive..
