Awe thanks...for real. I'm really not a heartless white man that I might come across as. Lol. This particular crew that I'm working with are the stereotypical white trash that everyone rails against on here. Just clueless men living from pay check to paycheck drinking smoking and gambling their lives away.....but I always make a dent and they always ask me why I am the way I am. Lol. I just tell them that I love em and that they are my peeps and invite them to church. They just laugh and say things like....I'll start on fire or church is in the mind man. Lol. Anyway...I always walk away from here with some pretty good rehearsed ammo in the hopes of changing the world one life at a time. Lol

I've heard the "church is in the mind" idea before. This is off topic, but just want to say that I'm dubious as to why a believer would not want to gather with fellow believers, but that being said, I don't think church is necessary to be "saved". I think one could go their whole lives without setting foot in a church and it wouldn't change whether they are a believer or not, but again, it would be an usual thing to do, but I'd listen to arguments. Though, by the description you've given of your workers, I don't think they've thought that through lol
When you consider that 80% of Americans identify as Christians it makes total sense. Same thing as political affiliation that's passed on.
Well here's the other side of that. The argument for capitalism is that it's simply the best economic framework of government we have seen in the history of the world. We have seen capitalist governments, communist governments, and socialist governments (these are the three biggest ones anyway).
In theory, Whats supposed to happen in socialist and communist governments is that instead of getting winners and losers, everyone is just running a pretty good pace in the race. What ends up happening 9 times out of 10 though is that you are getting EXTREME losers (the people) and EXTREME winners (the government).
The problem is that governments can't control market value.
The glory of capitalism is that you at least getting SOME people that are doing ok and if the American Church actually did its job, it would trickle down and poverty would be fixed, buts that another thread.

I watched the original OP's video and a caller back in 1988 asked Bernie if socialism is so great why are most socialist states failures.....b/c the people who implement the socialism will make it seem like it's all equal for the people but they always will be the richest and powerful oligarchy ruling over the common low people. Communism is the same thing with a more intolerant/tyrannical government and limits on speech.
While everyone likes to dream of universal healthcare utopia it is just not practical....if everyone gets healthcare your tax rates go up to fund that healthcare.....if everyone gets free/discounted college education guess what your tax rates go up to fund that....all these college kids screaming bernie bernie are getting conned by this guy b/c in the backdoor they may get initial college free but will be taxed out the wazoo when they get a job, it's a bait and switch to get a vote...nothing and I repeat NOTHING a govt gives is free you get charged for it one way or another........

It's practical and it happens in MANY countries. In fact, USA lacks behind in many ways. It's unfortunate. We could learn a bit from other countries.

You realize there have been 4 Republicans, serving a total of 24 years Since the Roe vs Wade decision in 1973... And they have done Nothing to overturn it. Say, either they Can't or they Won't...
That's one of the reasons why I've stopped voting on that issue alone!
One of the other reasons I'm fed up with republicans is The Patriot Act, put in place by Bush!

what exactly about democratic socialism do you think is anti-Christian?
we're not talking about dictatorial rule or revoking the right to personal property and free enterprise. we're taking about using national resource pools at the federal level for the common good of all citizens.

as a Christian, shouldn't i consider all my worldly wealth as more or less "on loan" from God, who provides me with all things, and be cheerfully willing to use my resources to help those in need? what should my purpose as a believer be in acquiring wealth, and how much focus should i put on it? speaking from what the scripture tells me, should i be in favor of policies that primarily help the rich, or the poor?
i just don't understand how the argument that capitalism - which is based on principles not just of earning what you work for, but of selfishness, covetousness & greed, because it makes no provision for the poor - is somehow a "Christian" economic system, but social welfare programs & using tax revenue to benefit all people are somehow "not Christian."
honestly, "democracy" is not at all Christian. it's based on the idea that 'the voice of the people is the voice of God' -- that majority opinion is always "right." democracy is the crowd choosing to crucify Jesus and free Barabbas. the form of government that the Bible seems to encourage is either oligarchy, with a king who fully submits himself to God, or come kind of tempered socialism or communism - like the early church did, pooling all their resources and helping all that were in need, but limiting that by recognizing who was truly in need, and who was able to provide for themselves.
the problem is that ancient Israel was not a "secular" government -- it was supposed to be an entire nation separated to God, and the church was not "secular" - it was believers separated out from the world. but America is a secular country - even if there's a majority of people who would check a box on a survey calling themselves 'christian' we are not a majority of actual believers, and our government recognizes freedom of religion, any religion, including atheism. we have to remember that our government is supposed to serve believers and non-believers alike -- which means that purely democratically, we can and often do get out-voted by the godless. so in democracy, the godless, if they have the most votes, set policy -- how is that the most "Christian" form of government? it's not; don't expect it to be.
