Or...I want to go to Wash, D.C. I take a wrong turn and wind up in Virginia, across the river. I have come short of my intended destination...

hmmm...a man throws a ball toward third base. It doesn't reach the intended base. He has come short of his goal.

grace offers you perfect blessings and peace and rest, when you do not deserve it.

When you have bitterness, Grace can not do its part. Because peace and rest will not be perfected in that bitter moment,, Thus, Grace has fallen short (the goal of God in grace) at that time.

Or...I want to go to Wash, D.C. I take a wrong turn and wind up in Virginia, across the river. I have come short of my intended destination...

Take yourself out of the equation, And put God into it..(as far as the intended destination)

God intended for you to go there, and offered you all th etools to get there, You fell short. because you did not take all God offered to get you there.

[h=1]Proverbs 27Amplified Bible (AMP)[/h][h=3]Warnings and Instructions[/h]27 Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring.
2
Let another praise you, and not your own mouth;
A stranger, and not your own lips.
3
Stone is heavy and the sand weighty,
But a fool’s [unreasonable] wrath is heavier and more burdensome than both of them.
4
Wrath is cruel and anger is an overwhelming flood,
But who is able to endure and stand before [the sin of] jealousy?
5
Better is an open reprimand [of loving correction]
Than love that is hidden.
6
Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern],
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda].
7
He who is satisfied loathes honey,
But to the hungry soul any bitter thing is sweet.
8
Like a bird that wanders from her nest [with its comfort and safety],
So is a man who wanders from his home.
9
Oil and perfume make the heart glad;
So does the sweetness of a friend’s counsel that comes from the heart.
10
Do not abandon your own friend and your father’s friend,
And do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your disaster.
Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.
11
My son, be wise, and make my heart glad,
That I may reply to him who reproaches (reprimands, criticizes) me.
12
A prudent man sees evil and hides himself and avoids it,
But the naive [who are easily misled] continue on and are punished [by suffering the consequences of sin].
13
[The judge tells the creditor,] “Take the garment of one who is surety (guarantees a loan) for a stranger;
And hold him in pledge when he is surety for an immoral woman [for it is unlikely the debt will be repaid].”
14
He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning,
It will be counted as a curse to him [for it will either be annoying or his purpose will be suspect].
15
A constant dripping on a day of steady rain
And a contentious (quarrelsome) woman are alike;
16
Whoever attempts to restrain her [criticism] might as well try to stop the wind,
And grasps oil with his right hand.
17
As iron sharpens iron,
So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].
18
He who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit,
And he who faithfully protects and cares for his master will be honored.
19
As in water face reflects face,
So the heart of man reflects man.
20
Sheol (the place of the dead) and Abaddon (the underworld) are never satisfied;
Nor are the eyes of man ever satisfied.
21
The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold [to separate the impurities of the metal],
And each is tested by the praise given to him [and his response to it, whether humble or proud].
22
Even though you pound a [hardened, arrogant] fool [who rejects wisdom] in a mortar with a pestle like grain,
Yet his foolishness will not leave him.

23
Be diligent to know the condition of your flocks,
And pay attention to your herds;
24
For riches are not forever,
Nor does a crown endure to all generations.
25
When the grass is gone, the new growth is seen,
And herbs of the mountain are gathered in,
26
The lambs will supply wool for your clothing,
And the goats will bring the price of a field.
27
And there will be enough goats’ milk for your food,
For the food of your household,
And for the maintenance of your maids.

(sorry, folks, haven't read through 20 pages :p )

i think i'll stick with confessing Christ's Righteousness :)

Or...I want to go to Wash, D.C. I take a wrong turn and wind up in Virginia, across the river. I have come short of my intended destination...

Grace is resting completely on the finished work of Christ for us. It is relying totally on Him. The Greek word "short" mean "to lack". and " to be inferior "....when we rely on ourselves we will lack ( fall short) of the grace of God.

Galatians 3:3 (NASB)
[SUP]3[/SUP] Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

He is saying in the verse to be careful no one comes short of the grace(kindness, mercy, forgiveness) of God.
To come short of it means we have not moved far enough in the direction we were headed.
What would bewitch us away from that destination we began toward?
Could it be by trying to finish in the flesh what was begun in the Spirit...?

Okay then, here it is honestly, what I think, since you want me to be honest.
It more describes you than it describes Peter is what I think.
I see Peters heart for our Lord.
And I see his heart begin to soften towards us because of his desire to move toward love and mercy and grace.
And when this softening of his heart longs toward walking in love with us and not demanding perfection of any one of us but believing God will accomplish His teaching in every one of us by the Holy Spirit He has given us, you come and shore him up, approving of his demand for perfect doctrine over love and mercy and grace. You encourage him the wrong way and lead him away from love and forgiveness.
So that is what I honestly think of Peter and where he is being led by the Spirit and what I think hinders him.

OK I knew that was what you were going to say. Here's what I have to say. You have your job, I have mine. Don't try to tell me how to do my job, and I won't tell you how to do yours. I'm not expecting perfection from anyone. I seek a perfect understanding of doctrine for myself. If someone has a problem with that, that's their problem.

Also, I don't think you have the slightest idea what Peter's about. I strongly sense the projection of your own misunderstanding of him onto him.

as long as your not talking about salvation, Yes, Salvation is a completed work.. Sanctification, or growing in christ is not.

do you really?

idk if we're geographically close, but my daughters and i would be honored to assist :)

;) Oh, goodness, no! :o

I was responding to the Pro 27:27...

...being silly. Sorry about the confusion.

Thank you kindly.

That is incorrect.
We have the hope of salvation. It isn't obtained until we die.
You really should study topics more before you post on them, friend.

2 Timothy 2:10 "Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory."

If the elect hasn't obtained it yet, neither have you or anyone else. Salvation is eternal life. No one living on planet earth has eternal life, only hope for it, the promise of it if we overcome.

"And this is the promise that He has promised us - eternal life."

1 John 5:11
"And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son."

John 3:15
"so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life"

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:36
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them."

John 5:24
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life."

John 5:38-40
"You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent. You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

John 6:47
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life."

John 10:28
"And I give them eternal life, and they will never, ever, by any means perish; and no one will ever snatch them out of My hand".

1 Timothy 1:16
"But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life."

Context is key.

StunnedbyGrace's point was this question: 'Could trying to finish in the flesh what was begun in the Spirit be that which bewitches us away from that destination we began toward?'

In other words, 'Could trying to do works in order to earn salvation bewitch us away from salvation?'

EG's point is simply: There is nothing we can do to obtain, keep, or add to Salvation--this "work" is already finished, by Christ. Sanctification, on the other hand, is unfinished work--we participate here by our works in life.

That is incorrect.

I should study?

If I am not saved, I have no hope. If I have no hope. I can have no faith.

What is your hope based on Phil?? A maybe, possibly, perhaps, possability that you might perhaps be saved in the end?

Sorry, that is no hope.

or we could listen to Paul in his letter to titus

Titus 3: 5 -
[SUP]5 [/SUP]not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

as for your passage, Paul stated a fact, He endured all things for the elect sake, so they may listen to his word, and through it be saved.

Paul did not mention that salvation woudl only come at the end, He said there were still people Paul had not come to yet who still needed saved, so he acted in a way in which his message would not be lost because of his actions.

Now who needs to study?
