Forget Seven, E.T. is on Netflix! Woo hoo, I love that movie. :D

800 pound bear? OMG! I always thought that bears couldn't run fast...

I just want to make sure ya'all know this is only recommended with black bears.:)
Yeah... I can just see how well all of that would work with a grizz... although, if you're unarmed and your options are run or fight, you're pretty much sunk either way... may as well make a day of it!
I always thought that bears couldn't run fast...
Well, if your idea of not fast is 25-35 MPH depending on the bear, yes, bears run very not fast.

(It's an optical illusion, I think. Bears are so large that even if they're moving quite fast it looks slower.)

Forget running or fighting.... start praying!!!

(it worked for Daniel...)

Or just start reciting a speech by any politician. The bear will quickly shake its head and depart...

Welp.. I just finished my workout and I was in a bathroom.. I heard the gym door open and someone walk in, etc. Probably 20 seconds later, I come out and no one is in the gym XD no car(other than my own) outside, nothing. That's the last time I go to the gym at night(not really lol).

Doing taxes for my parents for the first time ever. My dad was the one who always did them. :( Must stay calm and be brave... 0_0

Now I know why people pay accountants to do this stuff...
Mad respect for doing this for them! I am doing this for the first time ever myself....I have no idea what I'm doing.

Also, I feel discouraged by how much time I have to actually spend here in the forums commenting and liking things in order to get any rep power....

This will take me FOREVER.

3,197.
Wait a second...I say this comment and all of a sudden I get three messages about being given rep power...

A: I had no idea other people give it to you...someone explain it all to me...please? This is a thing?? (Still sorta new here)

B: I suddenly felt like I had entered the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and my house and just gained pointed! 10 points to Gryffindor! Except replace that with rep power.

C: Lastly, zeroturbulence: your comment about "the force is strong with this one" (in reference to the notification I got)...made my Star Wars heart skip beat.

In the words of someone older, wiser, and probably dead by now...

You don't have to out run the bear. You just have to outrun everyone else..

Hi
Rep power is .... a bit like likes. Difference is only you see them (as they don't appear "in" your post, and people can do it anonymously. I think most of us use it a bit more sparingly than likes, maybe it's sort of a super like.

:)

yup, I am a real superhero :p

btw, I miswrote it, rep's are a bit like likes, rep power is ability to give rep
and it seems the more I give the more I get
(having been a member since before the forums probably helps though :p )

Yup. That's why I intend to marry a girl who doesn't work out. That way when I'm old I can let myself go and still stay in slightly better shape than she is. Just in case, you know, if we're ever out walking and see a bear...

Disclaimer: This entire joke was shamelessly ripped from "Pickles" comic strip, where the overweight grandfather is seen jogging and claims he likes to stay in slightly better shape than his wife for this reason.

Speaking of bears, I'm reminded of the story of a couple who went out to a state park to go camping. The ranger warned them to look out for black bears and grizzlies. They asked how they could tell the difference between the two.

"Oh that's easy. If you see a bear and you run away and climb a tree, the black bear will climb up after you. The grizzly will just stand at the bottom and shake the tree until you fall out."

They stayed at a motel. >.>

That's the best time to go to the gym!

Only next time... (assuming there will be a next time)... you might wanna ask for the keys so you can lock up when you leave.. ;)

Just sayin' you know... :p

ok I've read both of your posts and it makes some more sense now. I was wondering about them appearing in the post. I would see the notification saying someone gave me some and my instinct was to click it, but then it didn't really go anywhere. How does one give rep power? How many have to be given before you can give? I just have so many questions. I thought it was something you got after you had spent time "investing" into the site by commenting on and liking things. Maybe I should have spent more time in the "I'm new and have questions forum...??????"

You give rep by clicking the star in the lower left corner of a post, you can add a comment or leave it blank

rep power has to do with nr of posts, and, I think, reps received and given. If you look in the tech user to user support forum I think there are some threads on it :)
