I was watching tha American History Channel this morning. I didn't know this.

There was a gang of atheist thugs in New York in the early part of the twentieth century that were attempting to blow up some churches. It was the poor vs the rich.

They saw the pastors, so called, living off of the parishioners while not taking care of the poor. These godless atheists couldn't stomach that injustice. And yet today, the body of Christ has no problem with the same thing.......I'd better stop. Get everybody mad at me again.

I don't advocate blowing up churches. Just shutting them down and put the keys of the kingdom back into the hands of 'we the people.'

I do love stirring the pot don't I? Smile.
 
The preaching of the Gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are saved it is the power of God. Enough said

We know where the spirit comes from that stirs up dissention in the body of believers.

I can't agree with a sweeping statement like that. The glaringly evident is that any zealous worldview might beget intolerance, which sometimes begets action. Atheists can be just as driven, or just as intolerant, as any religious adherent.

just so long as you know that not every church is like the things you so often rail against - i get to keep reminding you of that, as your posts always remind me of how blessed i am by God to have been led to & included in the wonderful family of God here in my little town!

it may take some time before you understand Yet. he's a bit of a broken record ((he knows it too)), but he's not our enemy :)
i didn't 'get' him for a while after i met him; i misunderstood him & jumped to conclusions.
 
And exactly what is it that makes atheist smarter than Christians? Science? The bible puts science to shame. I could go on but why. When did science discover germs when the bible revealed them a thousand years before, okay I;m gloating I guess. There is nothing new under the sun.

would 'we' do any better? there are good pastors and bad.
 
people do come together as a gang all the time but do people come together as a group all the time

So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.
 
Its a matter of heart more than intellect.. Those atheist thugs who resorted to violence to punish a church for not living up to their expectations were neither smart or compassionate. Everyone's a critic when judging what others should be doing, but how many poor folks do atheist take care of? Its a tad arrogant for any atheist to allege a lack of moral standards in a faith they reject, let alone attack a church for not doing things that you yourself do not do.

That said, I can also understand the frustration and anger of outsiders when they see the hypocrisy of some Christian churches that preach one thing while doing the complete opposite. Its often evident that many evolve around money and do little in regards to charity.. Imo, its a sin to enrich yourself by using God's word, that's tantamount to using His name in vain. While pastors need to be provider for, it also sickens me to see some become multi-millionaires off of the flock they're suppose to be tending. "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" (Matthew 7:15).

Wrong Brother, we want to be our own God and is the reason why men went into the forest and cut down a tree and fashioned it into an image and overlaid with gold and jewels and burnt incense to it and sacrificed their children to it just as we do today.

Atheist see no harm in abortion nor LGBT rights, blind.

yes. a very revealing scripture that's very often misinterpreted and misused by the RCC because the original language isn't looked at, nor the immediate context. Peter had just confessed that Christ is the Messiah, and Jesus had told Him that this was revealed by the Spirit, not by men.

I also say to you that you are Peter ((a word that refers to little rock or pebble, something you can hold in your hand)), and upon this rock ((a different word meaning large stone or rock outcropping, suitable for the foundation of a building)) I will build My church

the apostle isn't the rock that the church is founded on.
the revelation that Jesus Christ is the Son of God is the foundation of the church.

:)

this truth - the real foundation of our salvation - will never be shaken or removed, no matter if every church building and cathedral in the world is reduced to rubble, and the memory of the papacy is forgotten forever. Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God lives forever and ever!!
