Hebrews 2:9-11 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

[SUP]10 [/SUP] For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.

[SUP]11 [/SUP] For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,

It is strange how "work-based" - D.I.Y. righteousness/holiness mindsets are against the work of Christ for righteousness only. That is an anti-Christ mindset.

Hebrews 2:10

This is not speaking of Jesus being made better or more godly through the things He suffered. Jesus was perfect before He suffered for us. But the path for Him to fulfill the Father’s will was through the suffering of the cross. Once that was done Jesus said, “It is finished,” and His work on earth was complete.

It is inaccurate to teach that sufferings help perfect us as they did Jesus. That’s not what this verse is saying. Jesus didn’t need to be completed. He was God at birth.

But He did need to complete the job He was sent to do and that was accomplished through the suffering of the cross. Those sufferings were substitutionary, i.e. so we would not have to suffer. We don’t need to die for our sins; Jesus did that for us. Those who are preaching that we need to suffer to be complete are taking Christ down from the cross. That is anti-Christ.

Interesting that the introduction to 2 Peter chapter one says:

"Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" 2 Pet 1:1

This precious faith, was by the precious blood of Christ(1 Pet 1:19), and it is faith in this precious blood!

"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God" Rom 3:25

Here is a short 5 minute video illustration of being in Christ and that we become the righteousness of God in Christ.

Don't listen to those that try to tell you that you must become your own righteousness by "your" deeds or works. Our righteousness come from God because of Christ.

Isaiah 54:17
[SUP]17 [/SUP] "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," declares the LORD.

Too funny. I don't even have to watch the video, and there displayed on it in text (bolded below) is exactly what I just said (not bolded).

  1. Gnostic Christians believed that they were already perfect and salvation was simply a matter of waking up to that reality (Our identity is we are righteous).
  2. In terms of salvation, they considered what the body did irrelevant, because the spirit, which they considered to be who they really were, was already perfect and could not be harmed by anything physical (Nothing can change it)

When our Lord loses His righteousness - then we are in trouble as we have no righteousness apart from "being in Christ".

Here is what scripture says....

Isaiah 54:17
[SUP]17 [/SUP] "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," declares the LORD.

To work-based salvationisists mindset - righteousness you get by "your" deeds and not by what Christ has done in His finished work only.

Romans 5:17 (KJV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Romans 5:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 8:10 (KJV)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Romans 9:30 (KJV)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

Romans 10:10 (KJV)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 14:17 (KJV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For the kingdom of God ( Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within you..He might know a thing or two ) is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Here Paul is calling the Corinthians "righteousness" and unbelievers "unrighteousness".

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Those that try to create "their" own righteousness nullify the grace of God and His righteousness.

Galatians 2:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Ephesians 4:24 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth

Yes!!!

And that through HIS Righteousness, not ours!

Awesome verses, roaringkitten :).

God has indeed orchestrated His Gospel to be defended from every angle \o/.
