Hebrews 2:9-11 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.
[SUP]11 [/SUP] For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
It is strange how "work-based" - D.I.Y. righteousness/holiness mindsets are against the work of Christ for righteousness only. That is an anti-Christ mindset.
Hebrews 2:10
This is not speaking of Jesus being made better or more godly through the things He suffered. Jesus was perfect before He suffered for us. But the path for Him to fulfill the Father’s will was through the suffering of the cross. Once that was done Jesus said, “It is finished,” and His work on earth was complete.
It is inaccurate to teach that sufferings help perfect us as they did Jesus. That’s not what this verse is saying. Jesus didn’t need to be completed. He was God at birth.
But He did need to complete the job He was sent to do and that was accomplished through the suffering of the cross. Those sufferings were substitutionary, i.e. so we would not have to suffer. We don’t need to die for our sins; Jesus did that for us. Those who are preaching that we need to suffer to be complete are taking Christ down from the cross. That is anti-Christ.
