I get servants, but where do you see it saying we are slaves?
We are slaves of sin. Jesus paid the ransom (to buy us back to God) and set us free
 
they both mean the same,, Are you sure it is not two different versions you are using, and one interprets it one way, while the other interprets it another?

It is wise to realize how influenced we are by variously mistranslated words, AND by mistakenly applying 21st century thinking to historical archaic understandings of not only words, but also customs, traditions, situations, circumstances, and a host of other things.
 
In tune with what Willie said, I should point out:

Slaves, in a Jewish society, had rights. They were not like the slaves of the US (or UK, or European nations for that sake)
Not saying I'd want to be one, but I think they were better off than what we think of as slavery.
 
I agree with willy, I think this causes so much confusion with alot of scripture.

Yes, Joseph was a slave, and he, basically, ran the whole country where he was an "enslaved captive."
 
We are children of God. John 1:12~

Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed

Whatever we are, its voluntary, so "slave" as its defined today doesn't seem applicable. Slavery is forced, a slave makes no decision to serve, he has no choice, and benefits nothing. But we have voluntarily surrendered to Christ, we freely chose to serve Christ, and be devoted to Christ. "He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free" (Luke 4:18). We aren't enslaved by Christ, we are set at liberty and freed from death itself. Slaves are whipped, abused, and used to enrich someone else, When I read Isaiah 53, its our Savior who became a humble servant, who was whipped, bruised, and sacrificed to benefit us.. So I don't feel like a slave..
 
Paul refer to himself as a slave to Christ we also call ourselves servants. Notice however that paul said he was a slave to Christ not of Christ he was a willing slave not a forced one he did not consider it a bother to be slave to him and to others.
Jesus came here in an unexpected way, the people expected a conqueror a king that would set people free in power and by the sword but he did the opposite he came a meek servant and set people free not by the blade to cut down but by the blade of total submissiveness he willing let us kill him. the blade people were expecting would only cut and cause bleeding but the blade Jesus brought to the table cause mending and healing.

We are both slaves and servants we are royalty and children of God however we are willing slaves willing servants with a hidden crown on our heads that is hidden, Jesus had a hidden crown he was and is the king of all kings he was and is God almighty yet as he came here to us no one would have known by looking at him the crown he bore.
I see true beauty in that

Christ bought us from the slave market of sin with His own blood and made us heirs of the kingdom of God.

Not just set free but given an eternal inheritance that cannot be corrupted.
