Well.... "Europe" isn't one single country with one single way of doing things. We're not states like USA :p
It's mostly the ones that joined the EU that got in trouble :(
I know. Sorry. I'm sure europe is still a beautiful place. What scares me is how much they hate americans and I've heard that they can be really rude, especially the french. Now with the economic problems they're facing, people are probably even less friendly.

Back in the 90's I would have loved to see all the castles and the old world charm of places that haven't changed in hundreds of years, and the peaceful countryside, and the places where battles were fought in WWII..

Just shows how quick we all are to judge eh? Why would the French be more rude than others? Many on this forum talk about Europe as if we are barbarians, stupid, naive, islamists and whatnot just because we don't act like the USA. and if I was to use ie this forum's bible discussion as a way of judging what Americans are like, well... :p *

If you end up in Northern Europa, make sure you stop by Brugge (Bruges) in Belgium :D
and stop by me to if you go to Norway! I don't have much to brag about where I live, but there are plenty of other places to see.

* not picking on Americans, it's just that there happens to be way more Americans here than other nations

I would like to visit Amsterdam/Holland because it seems like a really pretty place which is both old-fashioned, but modern and clean at the same time.

I used to want to visit europe but it seems like the attitude of the people there has become much too liberal over the years for my tastes and the economy there is hurting badly so there is probably a lot of crime and poverty. I'm not saying I don't feel for them, just that I don't prefer to visit there at the moment...
Welcome, welcome.

It's not that bad. Northern European countries are rich and the French are really nice if you can speak French. If you can't but overtip, they all of a sudden can speak English.

Ok well maybe its not that bad. I will take your word for it, and if I'm ever in that part of the world I would love to meet you. :D And I also don't like the way americans have become. Too opinionated and self-righteous.

That is not far from where I live! I recognize all those places and travel those freeways, but thankfully I don't live in the city. It would be great to meet you too if I ever go to Holland. :D

Oh really? I've been to Baton Rouge once and we also drove to Long Beach. I wanted to go to some swamp to picknick, but they said there were alligators in it.

I have been to Europe (almost every Western European country, in fact) and I think Europeans are adorable:) They are so nice and polite, holding the doors, greeting you warmly and displaying good manners in general:)

Oh yes there are alligators in Baton Rouge! Good thing they warned you. :) Long Beach is not the nicest town lol but parts of it are nice. I live inland, close to Ontario. :)

I'm glad to hear this. :) That's what I get for listening to the media..

Hate Americans? Lol no that's muslim countries. We do think we know everything better, but that's towards the whole world. It's simply Dutch pride. We like to tell your presidents and Russian presidents how to do it all better, but they never listen to us lol.
One woman in Baton Rouge, I was there during the war on Iraq, didn't eat French fries because the French didn't want to help Clinton with that war. I thought she made a joke, but she was serious.

Haha I remember that! :D When people wouldn't eat french fries because the french wouldn't help in Iraq lol. They don't even have anything to do with france lol.

Sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread... I will stop now.

why would I want to? I drive a truck for a living. last thing I want to do is go somewhere and not get paid for it.
"Paid Vacation" time? If your job doesn't offer that, then well......that's too bad. Some jobs don't do that.

I know a missionary who is getting old.
People ask him, "When are you going to retire?"
He answers, "What would I do?"
They say, "You could travel!"
He says, "I already visit three continents every year."
