...it changed the way men view woman?
Has it changed society?
For the better or worse, or about equally mixed?
I think it is a mixture.
I think Christian woman (and men) have benefited from the changes.
I think for many not grounded in the word and prayer, it has caused more harm then good.
I don't think woman are treated as in past respectfully just because they are woman, their gender, by men, but conversely, they are given more respect for their achievements and innate equality then before.
But I have seen that go the other way to, where some men just view a relationship with a woman as about the same as with a man, with the sex aspect being one of the few of the major differences.
I read a interesting article the other day about men's attitude toward woman and sex. Men now seem to be less willing to commit to relationships because, in part, woman are getting married much later on in life, and also because men find that more then ever they can have sex without any long term relationship entanglements or commitments. Also, it seems a lot of men are less inclined to want to marry woman who don't have a career or good job, but conversely, they are not comfortable when woman earn more then them, which is happening more and more.
Of course this is the non Christian view. But sadly, many younger, and even some older Christians view it the same way.
I personally have known woman who have told me that they have had one night stands to just assert their power over men.
I know woman who have told me that they don't want men helping them, they want to be independent, even if they are married. Far from a scientific poll or large group of woman, but enough for me to see, that In NYC anyway, a lot of woman under the age of 50 (I am generalizing about the age cutoff, as I am with just about all my statements here) woman have a vastly different perspective then my mother did, and even many of my peers, even though I am not much older then the oldest in that age group of woman who have that mindset.
