I've also changed my routine starting this week.

I'm doing a modified 5x5 instead of the 5/3/1 I was doing the last 3 months.

I saw results with the 5/3/1 so I will be switching back and forth between the modified 5x5 and 5/3/1.


Instead of a regular 5x5 I will be doing 5 reps then increase 10lbs, 5 more reps increase another 10lbs... etc.
So it will look more like a 5, 5, 4, 3, 1. When I get the last set to more than 1 or 2 reps then I will increase everything by 10lbs.

This puts me under heavier weight for a longer period of time than 5/3/1 so it will be more strain on the body.

The only reason I am really changing up is because of talking to a weight lifter friend of mine who has been lifting weights for 10+ years suggested I do so. I was doing a push/pull kind of workout and he suggested more of a body part kind of workout. Like chest day, and leg day and arm day.

Sounds good to me. I do something similar with the increases. It's definitely tough to push thru that last set sometimes, but the progress is worth it.

I'm going to try to workout tonight. Having been sick, I haven't done so since Sunday. I'm also looking into new supplements & maybe a new protein shake. I stopped taking anything back in January; I just kind of burned out on the protein shakes.

Deadlift day today.

Got 455 one time at the end of my workout. Have to work on grip strength. It started to slip out of my hands at the top and I couldn't lock it out...

Also got a little exertion headache afterwards for my efforts... Nothing a little aleve can't handle...

If I used wrist straps I could probably get an extra 20-40 lbs. But then I would have used wrist straps...

I've been putting milk, bananas and peanut butter in my protein shakes. They are really good. But I have to clean out the blender every time...

I'm still taking creatine and fish oil, too.

Do you use Zinc? Does it work?
What about essential oils? I have heard they are proven to motivate the system to increase more testosterone.
I have been taking Amino Acids...

I have been taking Amino Acids...
I just take creatine and fish oil.

I don't know anything about zinc or essential oils.

does deadlifting and swinging around and carrying for hours twenty-odd pound grandsons count??

chasing them around the house and running around the yard?

i mean, i do a three mile walk in about 35 minutes every night it doesn't rain, but as far as the weight training, the kids have my shoulders plumb wore out. ;)

Make sure you promote some supplement too. Like coffee, or some multi-vitamin...

Finally...the weather is getting nice enough here in northern to VT to run without risking frostbite.
I ran today for the first time since October.
Not world record time, but 3 miles in 31:20, on hills (here in VT, there are not many paths that are flat for 3 miles).
Not marathon level fitness, but I'll take it, its a start...

thank you! before i became ill, i did a workout called The Firm (with good ole 90s videotapes :p).
it was fairly challenging and i learned not only about target heart rate, but the names of a bunch of muscles. ;)
there were hand weights and an 8 and 14 inch box for stepping involved, and i loved it.

now it's basically pilates, and my heart rate goes up with anxiety haha!

probably not great, eh? :rolleyes:

Today was squat day. And leg day.

Did you get them done?

I'm getting a little better at the low bar squat. Still have little balance issues to work out and exact bar placement. But I squatted more weight today than ever before...

I think I got in one 20 minute workout in the last week and that took everything I had. Still sick 10 days later.. my energy comes and goes. :mad: But I'm going to attempt to go for a run today. That's something lol.

our son (...our only son, the son whom we love...) will be 28 in a few days. he runs all the time.

his dad did, too, at that age. he ran 12 miles a day for almost 10 years. when he was drafted for Vietnam, they wouldn't take him.

his heart rate was too low. :)

That's awesome! I was actually a competitive runner in high school & during college.
