What IS PayPal? Have you ever used it? Do you like it/ hate it? Is it legit? I want to buy something on Etsy and the only paying option is PayPal.

My wife can explain it to you in detail but I can only say that it is legit. PayPal is the link between Ebay and your bank account so that you can pay for the item or receive a credit when someone buys an item from you.

I occasionally use pay pal.

You can use it to make a one off payment by providing your card details
and personal details etc.

Or you can set up an account so that you save time and don't have to keep
providing the same details over and over again when making payments.

PayPal is COMPLETELY legit.

To answer your most basic question, PayPal is a credit card processing service. They act as a proxy for business who do not or cannot afford to have an individual credit card processing account.

My eBay business only accepts payment from PayPal. The money goes into my account, and I have a debit card with which I can withdraw money or make purchases. I can also use the money in the account to pay for online purchases.

I have had my account for over 10 years and have NEVER been hacked. PayPal will also back you up on purchases you make with them. For example, if you place an order online and use PayPal, they will give you a refund if the seller doesn't fulfill their end of the bargain.

It's a wonderful service and I plan to use them for credit card processing when I open my coffeeshop this fall.

You can trust them.

I used to use Pay Pal. I think it's relatively safe and it's an easy way to pay for things online. However, I ran into an identify theft problem, totally unrelated to Pay Pal. Pay Pal, last I knew, requires we give them a bank account number, and I didn't want to take the chance that the identity thief could somehow gain access to my bank account number, so I closed my Pay Pal account.

I have used paypal for years. I even had someone take money out of my account illegally and Paypal investigated it and had my money back in account in a couple days. This was a few years ago and haven't had any issues since.

No you can just make payments without setting up an account.
You may get a prompt asking if you want to set up an account but you don't
have to :)

It's legit.

It started as a means of payment owned by eBay. PayPal has gotten so big that they recently broke away from eBay and are their own man now (if you will).

I've used it numerous times and have never had a problem. I'm not in love with the layout of their website, but I rarely need to log in and manage my account. When using it during check out on eBay, I just plug in my username and password for it, and boom! Done. It's pretty simple.

Paypal is awesome I use it all the time. Never link it to your bank account though. Just use it for payments with your credit/debit card or whatever. Paypal isn't a bank and doesn't have the same safety protocols that a bank would have...but somehow the government lets them act like one...

But as for what paypal IS, it acts as a middleman between you and a seller. This keeps everyone honest. It stops someone in China from processing your card for $500.00 for something that you ordered on ebay for $2.00

Don't know if it has been said, but PayPal has nothing to do with eBay -- yes you can use it there, but also anywhere else that accepts it as payment. eBay used to own PayPal, but they have since split again. Paypal is great to use when you want to buy from lesser known places because they offer buyer protection and don't have a problem just taking the money back from the seller. It is definitely not full proof though.

I also find it nice to be able to reuse the same payment system and not having to provide payment method to a million different places. Paypal will also offer much better security than random website B. Another note, unless this has changed and I am unaware -- you don't have to add your bank account to PayPal -- you can also add a credit card for payment method instead.

But yeah, in short PayPal is totally legit and much safer than most of these websites that take in payment information.
