Guys are out front of my house putting in our new sidewalk. When I was a kid, I always wanted to write something in cement. The kid is still in me!

I'm still trying to decide if I will call hubby to ask or if I'll just stick a couple of leaves from our forsythia bush in it as an imprint or if I write our initials in the proverbial heart or if the grownup wins out and I leave it be.

Now remembering cement isn't something you can write a whole lot in, go for it. What did you always want to do in fresh cement?

Kilroy was here? lol...let's see...I'd probably do my symbol of an interlocking S and G with a cross running through it and a heart on the tail of the S (Saving Grace through the love (heart) of Christ (cross)). Followed by a a paw print of my dearest current dog pal :)

I want to write "Righty-Tighty, Lefty -Loosey" using a pencil.
...then stick the pencil in the cement.

As proof to future generations that before there were keyboards and phones...once upon a time we used pencils.
Also, l might as well remind them that turning something right tightens it, and left opens it.

(I also want to be able to have a quick reference when lm struggling to open a ketchup bottle.)

If I ever get a house of my own, I want to invite an artistic friend, paint my doorframes in a bright colour, and have them paint / write something on them.

Maybe I'm tired and reading this all wrong but did we just go from
cement inprints, to chickens painting door frames and window sills?

Just wondered as there are some decorating jobs in my house
which could use a chicken like that.

I don't have any chickens, but maybe I can catch a sparrow.
You'll have to wait until the weekend though, going to Oslo tomorrow.

Our house is over a hundred years old, but there is a couple of dog paw prints in the basement. :) I dunno if they did it on purpose or if it was a mistake, but it's actually kind of cool.

hay Tinuviel,

our house is also over 100yrs. old, we have the 'roots' to prove it....they are literally coming above
ground is many places, we are wondering how long it will be before our house is literally lifted-up
to the heavens!!!

wwjd,
go ahead and run away to Oslo, but, you will eventually find that 'chickens' can literally solve
all of our problems.....

You might be right there,

They taste good, provide filling for pillows/quilts,
provide eggs, provide fertiliser, act as an alarm clock in the morning.
eat insects, look pretty. Hey they even paint door frames and window sills. :D

LOL I forgot all about Kilroy, and that would have been the picture I'd put in cement when I was a kid. That was always the first thing I drew in my assignment books. LOL

And I did consider putting the teddy bears' paw prints, but cement is alkaline base, and I was afraid it would damage their fur. (A bit frightening how similar we are in this. lol)

Ends up I was rushing out again and worried how to rush out (and back in, considering this postponed shopping day yesterday, and I really was running out of bread lol) past the yellow tape, so I decided to skip it. BUT, when I opened up my door someone was standing on my new sidewalk and looked at me like, "What? Are you going to get in my way, or can I continue about my business."

There's a sparrow nest under our a/c, and the a/c is above my front door. So, sure enough our sparrows got the honors of contributing to the cause. We've had sparrows there for decades. I think they are the underdogs of the sparrow community, because they usually lose one or two chicks in spring. (I know, because the little tiny bodies land on my top step and look like tiny human babies from pictures of babies in the womb, so it breaks my heart each time.) I like to imagine it's the same family. Once the parents die, one of their children take over the nest. (They don't have a long life expectancy.) So in a few years another one will land on great-grandma's footprint.

So.. no what there. Great idea! :)

Yeah but I'd be the kid wanting to know if a turn a pencil right or left.
