Matthew 11:28-30
[SUP]28 [/SUP]Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
[SUP]30 [/SUP]For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Is this how to repent and turn from being a slave to sin to a slave of Righteousness?

Guys...I want to thank all of you who have contributed in such a positive way to this thread...just checked in and there have been about 60 likes given to me for this thread...I'm not looking for likes...what I see is the positive response and the desire most of you have for actually LEARNING and DISCUSSING...which is what most of us have come here for in the first place!

I see the derails...led the mods know that we are fed up with this happening and the accusations of gnostic and hyper grace

this thread has never been about those things, but one person has consistently used that method to derail thread after thread

so, are you tired of it? I sure know I am! copy/paste the derailing comments and ask a mod to do something about it

no one needs to be banned, but folks need to respect a thread and not derail for their own personal satisfaction

sorry...mostly goods news though, right? such a positive response to God's word! :)

Uh oh. Here it comes again. You were good for a while. What happened?

  1. Stir up trouble
  2. Blame it on someone else
  3. Offer a solution

This is a great topic ember! Another thought that comes to many people's minds as I've noticed here is the part about God's judgment and wrath. There are those here who don't know there IS no more judgment and wrath or guilt or shame for the child of God even while we are repenting.

Jesus took all of that for us when He died on the cross. Yet there are those who keep trying to take some of it too when they sin. They don't know they can't take ANY OF IT AWAY by their feelings of sorrow or regret. Those feelings of guilt and trying to remedy it can't help spiritually. That is unsaved man's solution. We are not unsaved anymore. We go another way by denying the flesh in these matters as well.

Many don't apply this truth when they "repent" Changing your mind to align with God's truth can be at times hard when we think of how stupid we were when we didn't believe Him in the first place. I've often times told the Lord how sorry I am for not listening or not walking accordingly in the knowledge of all the love He has for me.

So in that I have regrets at the time I realize what I've done., but God has forgiven me already for that and then again I'm reminded of who I am in Christ and in seconds JOYFUL and re-charged again by the knowledge of His grace and truth. Now I can keep on keeping on without the snares of human sorrow that is not like Godly sorrow.

Godly sorrow brings some major good stuff!! Human sorrow has shame and guilt and a standing back away from God. When God's repentance shows us the truth of our NEED TO COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF GRACE TO FIND GRACE AND HELP IN TIME OF NEED!

He gives us fresh revelations each time we believe in the ones He gave before.

Does this mean we are free from feeling condemned all the time? Not me. It takes a fresh load of re-acquainting myself over again about the love of God In Christ. The unmerited favor I have because of Jesus. It is like the Bible says - it's what lifts us up from the dead!

I must hear it and think about it when I go to bed and when I wake up. I put it on my tv on DVD and VHS tapes. I must read about it in the morning and write about it in the evening. I need to listen to it in my car and always keep it before my mind's eyes and ears and heart.

I come here on CC to re think and share it on these forums. The love of God is what will get us through and cause us to have faith in the One who first gave it to us. But our natural minds see the world and we have to make a choice of what eyes we use when we think about life here. Heb.11:1
11 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].

Much like those old testament saints who kept the Word on the door posts of their houses so they saw it and were reminded it of it over and over again. That is what we need to do. Or at least that is what I have to do. Because humans are so needy we need to always see Jesus and who we are IN Him. Then we will bear lots of fruit. That is what abiding is., seeing Jesus and our position in Him. True abiding like John 15:5 says. Without Him we can do nothing.
hey Lynn...want to respond...later...we are just on our way out

hugs

Just came from service and THIS was the passage that our Pastor preached on.

I never quite understood this passage til I went and served in the Dominican Republic. It hit me there what this passage in one sense meant.

Whether we did our work, which was fairly hard labor, or we ate, or we had devotionals, or we played games at night, we did it ALL for the glory of God. HIS yoke was easy, and HIS burden was light as our Spirits were refreshed each day and we happily served for the body, alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ. Even though most of us couldn't communicate with one another, the Holy Spirit, and our love for each other was always present.

We had a Pastor from Uganda visit our church today.

All I can say is I am not giving or doing enough. But he, and all the people he helps, are so grateful for even the little bit of help they receive from us.

God Bless you brother! Please don't ever fall into that comparison trap that I fll into from time to time. Looking at the walk of others, either behind you, or further along, on our walk with the Lord. He has us ALL right where He wants us. That's not to say if He puts on your or my heart to do more we shouldn't.

Have a great day! Love Ed

It's simple. It really is.

If Jesus paid for all sin on the cross - and He did - there's absolutely nothing left to atone for. If you never do a single good work after salvation, it has no bearing on your eternal security. Salvation is based on the sacrifice of Christ alone - nothing more, nothing less. We are saved, sealed, and secure through Him.

if anyone ever gets the opportunity especially americans like myself, or people from privileged countries ever have the opportunity to go serve the people in Uganda, it will change that person unquestionably, and they will believe in the kingdom of God active upon the earth as we speak. There is faith there that cannot be measured, and Gods spirit is moving with power.

I agree that the threads should be respected. and this isn't to start an issue, but haven't each and every person now saying we all need to respect the thread and its just about fellowship and peace...hasn't nearly every single person been involved in the arguments and same type of behavior on a fairly regular basis on this site? our views are different, but I have seen most involved in or even creating the same things that are now unacceptable because "most of us are here for peace and fellowship?"

honestly wonderful op.......but if we look at our own actions as recent as 2 weeks ago its hard to place the blame on one person or even 2 or three. just an unwarranted observation, and I sincerely apologize for those offended by it. yet to me it makes sense to always guard against hypocracy of which I myself have also been guilty and readily confess......as I think each person has.

I like your post , but in context this thread some have chosen to take it to a different topic. " Hijack Thread' that is the issue as I see it. Over the past three weeks many mod's on CC have been very supportive to the thread and trying to answer many complaints . Arguement is not bad = presenting your position vigeriuosly or defending it.
What is not acceptable is to be rude or label those you do not agree with.
Instead of saying "your a false teacher" use other terms. And remember if you are trying to prove you are right to a person who will not listen LOL I think that maybe a waste of time.

If what they say is false tell them that you do not see that anywhere in the bible nor do believe that is proper biblical interpretation and support or argue your biblical points :)

"But CS1 I got to tell them and call them what they are ! " really? so self -control is not required? FYI everyone can be mis understood in this setting so it doesn't hurt to ask " What do you mean? Or what support you have for that ?

I think people who are stuck in the works/grace debate only know how to get attention based on their performance. And a lot of people only know how to get negative attention. I think they grew up in homes that attached value to behavior or homes that where there wasn't any parenting at all, they just turned away and wanted the kid out of their hair and didn't give the child positive attention and a heart for connection. So people grow up only knowing how to get attention by acting out.

So, have you been cornered and told you need to repent? Has someone waved a big scary Family Edition Sized, gold leaf bound, ink on vellum leather bound Bible in your face or possibly hit you over the head with it?

Has someone told you that you are going to hell unless you repent even though you do believe that Christ died for you?

Have you done your Jim dandy bestest to repent and still find your feet dragging up to the altar every time the call goes out for repentance?

Do you promise yourself you will not commit that sin again or possibly just stop sinning altogether every time you get yelled at in church by an itinerant Evangelist or Mrs. Clout prays for 45 minutes at the Wednesday night prayer meeting and you fall asleep and fall off your chair and she points at you as you wake up and shrills 'there! that is what I am talking about?'

well, the reason you keep flailing and failing is a lack of understanding of what repent actually means and what the event actually entails

Many understand the term repentance (from the Greek word metanoia) to mean “turning from sin.” This is not the biblical definition of repentance. In the Bible, the word repent means “to change one’s mind.” The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions (Luke 3:8-14; Acts 3:19). Acts 26:20 declares, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action. (source)

We have an electrical inspector in one of our counties around here that is a believer. I love him, but I don't like him.

He will see one of the guys smoking or hear one the guys cussing and he pounces......" your going to hell for your sins if you don't ask Jesus into your heart!!!!"

I haven't personally heard him do it. But a couple of guys have been really upset by him and I asked why. So I had the opportunity to tell them the truth. A blessing in disguise I suppose.

An explanation of the topic of repentance is worth hearing. I was watching the video you provided, it only worked for 11 seconds, so please give information (a link) for me to watch it at the original site. Thank you :)

The word "repentance" - metanoia as been shown by others simply in the original greek means " to change the mind - ".

In Jesus and Paul's day the word would be used in a sentence like this. " I was going to the synagogue but I metanoia (changed my mind ) and went to the market.

There are "fruits" of repentance ( changing the mind ) as in the case above...the person "went to the market". ( every fiber of my being wants to say..."and this little piggy stayed home".....but I will refrain...:) )

To us it means to change our mind to stop relying on ourselves and our thinking and turn to God. Stop living our own life with our own thinking and come to Christ and let His life live through and in you. Receive all that Jesus did for us in His finished work.

We should be repenting ( changing how we think towards something ) constantly as we see the Lord's true nature, love and grace revealed to and in us.

There will always be "fruits" of having a changed mind ( having repented ) to God but the "fruit" is not the repentance within itself. True repentance is the "root" before the "fruit" comes.

The fruit will manifest itself in the form of having a changed heart because we are a new creation in Christ.

This will also show in behavior as the life of Christ transforms our outward life to reflect what has already happened in our inner man - that new creation in Christ
.

Sometimes our religious traditions can "hi-jack" the meanings of words and can present false assumptions.

Here is a video for those that like to watch them that talks about how the English word "repent" got hi-jacked by religion.
