no they are not. they are however allowed by him and i have found are gifts in disguise. for instance i had cancer for four years went through un imaginable pain and surgeries and radiation almost died several times obtianed life long damage and new desieses and because of this i can relate to those who have gone through them and do now. it never makes sense in the moment why we have them or go through them but later on it will

Heartsearcher, I agree with you. I dont believe they are punishments, but maybe something given to us by god to see how we handle having a disease. I've had epileptic seizures since a very young age, and while I consider them inconvenient and a pain in the butt lol, I also realize I was given them for a specific purpose. I dont know exactly what it is, but I think its maybe so I can share my experience with them and sympathize and support others who feel the way I do about them. They've been part of me for so long, it would seem strange if I DID'NT have them. Thanks for sharing and have a great day! :)

I think it is a result of sin that is in the world, all diseases and sickness comes from it.

The bible said that while we were yet sinners CHRIST died for us,and it said that by his stripes we are healed, and it said to be carnally minded is death, but to be be spiritually minded is life and peace.

JESUS said one time " son your sins be forgiven" ..............this is why IMO sin causes these diseases/sicknesses

matthew 9:1-6

king james version(kjv)

[SUP]1.)[/SUP] And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.
[SUP]
2.)
[/SUP]
And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

[SUP]3.)[/SUP]And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
[SUP]
4.)
[/SUP]
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
[SUP]
5.)
[/SUP]
For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
[SUP]
6.)
[/SUP]
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the
palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

People will believe something they can see, taste, hear, smell.or feel much faster than something they cannot see.
i mean people can not see a sin that is forgiven but they can see a person rise up and walk.

this works by faith and faith works by love and love never fails.

Seed_time, ty so much for your answer! I personally believe in what I CANNOT see as much as I do with what I CAN see. However, we were forgiven by Jesus long ago. I agree that life and certainly stress can cause physical disease but I do not see it being a result of sin. If it were, every single person on earth would be disease-ridden. But ty for your viewpoint! Have a good day! :)

Hi blue_ladybug
Thats very good that you believe in what you can't see,but far too many people truly believe in their 5 senses.what they can see. I was listening to a teacher/preacher the other day and he was talking about how we sing songs like.....(when we all get to heaven, what a day that will be).....then the doctor tells us we have cancer and to get prepared because you are going to be with the GOD that you are always singing about, then thats when we start crying... ...thats what i meant by being spiritually minded is life and peace and being carnally minded(fleshy, concerned about self, self preservation) is death

i was hoping that verse i highlited in red would explain it satisfactory, hopefully someone will be able to give a better explanation.:)

Scripture says that our bodies are the temple of God. So how do we treat our bodies? Do we eat healthy foods or are we putting a lot of fried food, sugars, processed foods into them. I think a lot of times we bring sickness on ourselves. Are we smoking? Do we drink liquor? I don't believe that God brings on sickness, but did allow problems and illness to come to Job because of Satan's accusations of God protecting Job.

When Jesus healed a blind man His disciples asked who sinned this man or his parents and Jesus said neither that he was born blind to bring glory to God and Jesus healed the man restoring his sight and the man started praising God.

So I believe it is that we are in a sin sick world and what we do and how we treat our bodies plays a big part in our health. God wants nothing for us but the best, after all He gave His Son to die for us to save us from sin. God is a life and love giver.

JesusLives, thanks so much for sharing! Awesome nickname, by the way! I believe that we do get diseases from how we treat our bodies, what we put into them, whether we smoke or drink, etc etc..I neither smoke nor drink and I TRY to eat fairly healthy. I have two salads every day and drink a ton of water. I also think that god allows problems to come to us to see how we handle that situation. However, I dont think the saying that god would never give us more than we can bear is quite true. I mean, look at how many people end their lives because they feel they cant handle the pressure anymore. I admit I have thought and still do think about suicide, and I've even gone so far as to give a halfhearted attempt at it. But I didnt do it for a few reasons. 1.) killing is a sin and I know I will go to hell. 2.) I know that heaven is a far better place than this crummy world could ever be and 3.) I know that god has a purpose for me here still. :) He has a plan for all of us. Have a great day and pls hit the like/rep buttons!! Thanks! :)

They´re not, necessarity punishments, though I know some are and were a dierct consequence of sinning. I´m my case, I´m sure, I got and eye catarat (now operated) when I saw a porn magazine.

The terminal state of dying is the worst desease, as I guess.

Hi blue_ladybug
I do believe that because of sin that man is sick,(the inside thoughts)
I wouldn't use the word you used,(disease-ridden) but we still live in bodies that have not been glorifified,so anyone can still get sick.
CHRIST died and offered his blood for mankind, those that believe/reborn in him can now be forgiven/healed when before there was no hope and we were just in the body of this death, but now we can be delivered from the body of this death.

we have access to the grace CHRIST has provided through faith.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease over 17 years ago and had symptoms for at least 5 years prior to that. It is definitely trying--the pain can be almost unbearable and, for those of you who know about the disease, having the constant worry about whether I am going to have a flare up can be.....well, I won't go into detail but, it is far from fun.

Is this a punishment from God? When I first started having symptoms I was in the best shape of my life. I had graduated from high school a couple of years earlier where I was an athlete and I still played softball at least 3 nights a week. I ate well and got plenty of exercise.

Whether this is a punishment or a trial, I don't know. I try not to dwell on it too much. Yes, there are times when I get really down about it and feel like I cannot handle it any longer. But, God gives me the strength to get through the rough times and those rough times make me appreciate the good times even more.

So, I guess am I going to have to agree that diseases are not a punishment from God. This disease has only made me a stronger and more compassionate person. Knowing that a lot of people don't understand my illness has made me think twice about how I treat others. Many people look at me and see a healthy person--they don't understand when I don't feel well. I try to be more understanding of others and the problems they may be having that I cannot see.

Sometimes bad things are a natural result of the consequences of sin and disobedience. Other times they are a way for God to get our attention or to make us more dependent on him like Paul's thorn in the flesh. Still others are like a bee sting with no cause other than we've been living in an imperfect world since the fall. I think most of the time tragedies and disease are under this last category.

something to consider

I have a personal friend in NY who was cured from leukemia... I wish Jesus do the same for many of you. He´s able to heal!

Here's another question for you all. Will God heal EVERYONE once and for all, in THIS lifetime? There are a couple of users who are disputing that question with me on another thread. I say no, we will not ALL be healed during our lifetime here on earth.

I think we can be healed and there are things that can block healing .so not everyone can be healed due to blockages. (its just my point of view so please yall dont be attacking meeee)

Yes but if God were to heal us completely, in a one-shot deal so that we never get sick anymore, then why doesn't he? Isn't it kind of a hassle to him AND us, having to heal people a million times over?

Well when for example a demon of cancer has a right to be there because that person is eating McDonalds all day every day then God cant just go past the ''insider contracts'' that exist. And you see that in Revelation its pretty clear that theres gonna be famine and all , which is his will, and it wouldnt make a lotta sense if we all couldnt get sick. Sadly bacteria and all does still exist and theres so much that in my opinon gives rights so he cannot keep us protected from illness ..just no way it can be done. I doubt that everyone can from one sec. to another turn into Elijah or Jesus
