How many of you guy's fast?
How often? How long? What do you usually fast from?

I'm going to try to fast once a week, for 24 hours, and eat nothing, but drink lots of water!

I find also, whenever I'm fasting I see and think and hear about food a lot more than ususal!

the bible says. that when we're fasting, we shouldn't let any see that we 're fasting. coz then it wil not be of GOD, but for pleasing your self. MATHEW 6:16-18. .........mark 2:18-
mathew 17:21........ 1corith 7:5....is this what u call fasting? ISAIAH 58:4,5..........Read these verse s and then tell me what is fasting means for u.

as for me . i fast every first week in a month it depends on my baby's healthy. my baby is 4 mnths old, so he stil needs milk from me. when he is not sick, i fast from 07morning to 06 evenning. but if he is sick , then half a day i fast.

what i fast about, it is between me and MY FATHER IN HEAVEN.

When u gonna fast for both food and water, aske the HOLY SPIRIT to be with u and prepare u thru that fasting day. i tell you u will not be hungery at all, and u will enjoy the day and not even wanting to stop. but dnt forget to praise. dnt see moves or things that distructs the HOLY SPIRIT , if not u be fasting for nothing if its about spiritural strengeth.

hope u're getting me.
may God bless u as u try.

love from norway

When i fast it varies, depends whats in my heart, but usually when i fast for 24 hours i drink no water due to its a short period of time, but when i fast for 3 days or more i drink water. Our focus should be on God during this period of time, soaking in God's word & presence.

Matthew 6:5: And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
Matthew 6:16: Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

.... why would anybody care if you fast?

Fasting... Well I think that if it is to satisfy a vain purpose such as focus on the cosmetics of the body it is not a good practice. I also think that if you think it will help you attain some higher purpose, enlightenment of mind, self control, or personal spiritual elevation, it seems a bit of an extreme way to achieve it, in fact it is very common in practices involving spiritualism. Jesus is our savior. Prayer and faith is very effective. I have seen many women really obsess with their bodies and it is not healthy- in this case it is an eating disorder. I have also seen men do the same. It seems that around this time of year people feel the pressure to drop weight and find a reason to do it. I would ask them...please do not use God in this type of endeavor while deceiving others about it. I think it can influence people or put pressure on others to do the same. Some people plan on doing it for "God" while internally it is for vanity. I do not think that the Lord intended us to harm our bodies or be overly consumed in the thought of them. I think it is really important to think of what it is that your really doing it for. Also...If you are under a lot of stress it may not be very good for the nervous system. If you are a nursing mother remember that you are not only depleting that nutrient supply, but affecting the acid/alkaline balance of the body, and releasing more toxins into the milk. I would not do this until your baby is at least a year old or you have a doctors approval.
For people who are healthy minded and physically able to fast...I would say to look into the Daniel fast. If you feel it is stressing you out to fast then maybe you need to just listen to that and pray that the Lord lead you to a more safe and appropriate approach to what you want to do.
If you want to lose weight...look to cutting out heavily processed foods, fast foods, carbonated beverages, sugars, artificial ingredients, dyes, and other junk foods. Consume more water, fresh fruits, and vegetables, other RAW foods, and look into interval training- appropriate physical fitness based on health and condition.

A person is even developing at 18 years old and really need to talk to their parents before doing a fast.

I was just wondering, I'm new so I'm learning, and I think it is okay to talk about fasting, but not to draw attention to yourself as in "Hey look at me! I'm fasting!!!" Or to look hungry and sluggish, I think that's what the Bible talks about.

For me I can't fast for food do to medical reasons, but there are so many more distractions in our lives we could fast from. I try to fast once a week, and every week it varies. It could be from T.V. to computers, phones, maybe even sports.
A cool testimony,
My brother was learning about fasting during bible study. He kept getting this strange dream that he thought was from GOd. It ended up being God calling him to fast from football. 'Cause he is the football star on his team, A team, first string, and can play almost every offensive position. Even though he was good at it, he felt at peace givng it up because he knew that that is what God had wanted him to do.:) God comes in many cool ways.

Although there are some people on here that disagree with my way of explaining it. This is how it was explained to me:

So as I'm sure you know, the Spirit and the Flesh don't Mix. The Spirit is like Water and the Flesh is like oil. The two don't mix.

So when we fast, we are depriving our flesh from something it wants (IE: food, water, junk food, certain types of food, computer use, tv, etc...)

In return this raises our Spirituality and "controls" our flesh. If you have trouble with something, or praying about something important fasting helps.

We are constantly in a state of Spiritual warfare, and fasting helps us win the battle of the enemy. To not sin, and please God.

This is how it was explained to me, and I think its a good way to explain and understand it.

God Bless.

I fast from ungodly music, and have gone without it for 2 months, that is harder for me than to do without food. right now I'm dying to listen to some bands that r nowhere near christian. Music is very important to me.

Music is a big part of me too, but when God came into my life, I knew it was something I had to repent of, and just give up ultimately for God. Music has a big influence on how we act and the way we think. I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal and secular music. God convicted me of this though and I listen to Christian only bands now.

Skillet
Casting Crowns
Hillsong
Israel Houghton
Switchfoot
Toby Mac

I listen to Josh Turner as well but I don't know if he is Christian or not, he sings about God though.

Eventually there are certain things we have to sacrifice completely to God so we may please him. It makes your relationship with God stronger.

I've given up music, video games, movies (except Christian and some others), most television, gambling etc... Some of these were really really hard to do but I just said, thats enough God doesn't want it so neither do I.

I'm not saying I'm perfect or anything; Far from it in fact, I have tons to sacrifice to God still, we all do. It's something that we just have to give up though. If you wanna talk about anything or need help with something send me a message and I'll be more than happy to give you whatever advice I can.

God Bless.

I know them all, listened to them all, and if I was to listen to them I would like them. But the enemy uses secular music (not all the time) to influence us away from God. I would pray about it and ask God what he wants you to do, and ask for the strength to do it.

Our church is doing a Daniel fast where its only fruits and vegetables for three weeks so that God will hear our hearts and bless our church to an overabundance. Its proving to be harder than I had anticipated but I only have one week left

How about fast from self daily?
Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting

Maybe practice daily, fasting to be co-crucified with Christ at the death at the cross of so that:
Philippians 3:10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Philippians 3:11 if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

It seems to me that the door to new life is through death to self flesh?
Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So I fast as dead to flesh, and alive to God
Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Ultimately it is denying the self as in selfishness and turning over to trust God to provide all our needs and this does not mean for us to sit and not move.
A trust in God to provide is an active trust, where I at least move and have my being.. see other post I just made.
Praying God reveals you the answer needed
