It means to be given His righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

[SUP]21 [/SUP]For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Romans 3:21-22 (KJV)

[SUP]21 [/SUP]But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Romans 5:18-19 (KJV)

[SUP]18 [/SUP]Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Romans 10:1-5 (KJV)

10 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Cor 5:21)

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. (Rom 3:21-25)

Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. (Rom 5:18-19)

Romans 4:5 - But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:

Philippians 3:9 - and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.

I get the Scritpures quoted. Exposit those quotes exegetically. Martin Luther says we have a foreign righteousness, the great exchange if you will. Christ has declared us rightous. A legal term. Basically, not guilty.

oh, sorry, by which i mean i believe in double imputation.
our sin was imputed to Christ, and all His righteousness in life and in death (active and passive) are imputed to the believer.

because, there is none righteous, no not one.

the Westminster Shorter Catechism puts it like this:
Justification is an act of God's free grace, wherein he pardoneth all our sins, and accepteth us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone. (Q. 33)

What is the point of being " in Christ" if His righteousness is not imputed to us. We are "clothed" with His righteousness and therefore have a right standing before the Father. The purpose of this is relational. We are reconciled to God.

apologies. former homeschooler. :)

as in, when the subject of a sentence is missing in an imperative sentence, it's the 'you, understood'.
if i say to my daughter, "Clean your room." there's a verb and an object, and that she is the subject is understood.

i had forgotten it's a family thing to mean what is obvious. :)

GOD Is holy and loves righteousness.HE created everything that we know and everything we don't know of yet,but nevertheless HE,being holy will not relate with sin.

Adam decided to do his own thing and be disobedient to GOD and sin and death entered the world and this world fell.

Remember GOD Is a Spirit and must be worshiped by us that way and In TRUTH.

GOD's kingdom Is a kingdom of righteousness.

A person Is born once of the flesh but they are reborn of the Spirit and righteous, when a person gets saved,GOD created their spirits perfect and sealed.

So you see being declared righteous Is done by being In right standing to GOD In your spirit,In truth.

What does it mean to be declared righreous?
Its the result of Christs obedience for the many Rom 5:19

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Interestingly the word made here καθίστημι means:

  1. to set down as, constitute, to declare, show to be

To be declared righteous also means to be justified

Isa 53:11

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Justify here means to declare righteous

rom the trouble of his life[f] he will see;[g]
he will be satisfied.
In his knowledge, the righteous one, my servant, shall declare many righteous,[h]
and he is the one who will bear their iniquities. LEB

So it also means to be declared Just or Justified.

The strict Lutheran doctrine is:

Excused, from excūsare (Latin) To be removed from an accusation.

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:30
