After carefully reading and studying the Bible, I've become convinced that God only cares about this life in that we work for him. There may be relationship and whatnot, but what really matters is that we work for him. Everything else is irrelevant, including what we may want and desire. And even then, the next life is not about our joy, our only reward is him, so who's to say we'll be joyful at all?

I could only agree with this if "work for Him" was better explained than you have done.

I explained it. We do only what he wants, when he wants.

well the bible tells us He will give us the desire of our hearts if we delight ourselves in Him, (psalm 37:4) also consider this: he died for us in the person of His son... if all else is irrelevant then why did he die to save us and restore us to Himself... I mean he doesn't need us right, he could just start over... but he loves us and it does matter to Him all of it.

Run through the itinerary of, say, four typical days of doing that. What, exactly, would your 15 or 16 waking hours look like each day?

I don't see how I need to make it any clearer.

I know it's said that God loves us and he always will, but what if that love is different from what we think it is?

Then I would say it may not be the same thing as what we may think it is.

We is a big term...any person you ask might tell you what God's love is and they probably differ...

What do you think God's love is?

Also God promises peace, joy and love to those who worship Him. Not as this world gives.

I believe God cares very much about this life...but not so much about fulfilling people's selfish desires, lusts of the flesh or pride.

But what does that peace, joy, and love look like?

The problem is, it never stays consistent. A man who sends thugs after his girlfriend so he can rescue her may claim to love her, but any reasonable person would think he's a conceited egotist who doesn't know what love is.

And if wanting to have a family of your own, a decent paying job, and not being sad all the time is selfish, then I'm glad to be.

God's peace, joy and love is pretty consistent.

What does your thug example have to do with God?

Are you saying you would rather be selfish than do God's will?

You're dissatisfied and you're projecting those feelings towards God. I think we have all done that to some degree, but just know God is faithful and He does have promises in His word and personally to us individually. You want a family, an income, and peace? Seek Him. He can make your dreams come true, all of them. Yes, His will is where you will find the most joy and sense of fulfillment. No, He isn't trying to steal your dreams away from you and have you be a failure in life.

Your mindset towards God isn't in alignment with who He claims to be in His word. He is for you and not against you, if you think otherwise you need to reevaluate your perception of God. I, myself, apparently need to do that as well. VVhatever you're going through and your lack of success/progress can be resolved through and by Him. He can help you. Just ask.
