Heresy Hunters – Judging Others

[FONT=ariel, helvetica]The following is a reply to an email amongst friends concerning heresy hunters, those who denounce other Christians as being heretics (false: prophets, apostles etc.) because they hold different non-essential Christians doctrines than them.

You asked, ‘There are people who have different view points. Are they entirely wrong?’ Yes and no, case by case differs. Look at the Kings of Israel and Judah, some were good, some were bad, some were good and then bad, others were bad and then good, whilst some kept tottering between the two opinions! Simon the sorcerer from Acts 8 was converted and baptised in a time of revival, BUT his heart was not right. Peter sussed him out, as he wanted to purchase the impartation of the Holy Spirit with money and told him to repent.

long article, but interesting regarding the harm done by people who think they have some kind of calling to find fault with everyone but themselves

You know....we are allowed to agree to disagree on things as well! To me as long as Jesus is being preached as our Savior by grace through faith in His blood alone - we are on the same page and it's a good one. We will be spending eternity with Him - together. None of us knows as we ought to know Paul said.....

that is so and that is often overlooked

Here is something about religious spirits...also in the op..please note I now have people who need to take their judgement of others to their own heart on ignore...

Luke 18:9-14, “And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
As we can see, somebody who sees themselves as superior to others is often in bondage to a religious spirit(s) of some kind. This Pharisee felt that he had earned his good standing with God, and that the sinner had not, therefore he had reason to boast before the Lord. The Bible makes it clear that our salvation is an undeserved gift from God, lest any man boast:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

The Pharisees were always looking down upon others, as if they were superior to everyone

there was a thread started some days back...it was hideous...about Joseph Prince

I asked people to stop answering because of the ugliness and vitriol

I was personally attacked for doing so...for trying to bring peace

the thread has been shut down...people were literally tearing each other apart

go look up my recent posts...you will see I have been trying to get folks to stop and think about what they are doing

I have been really close to leaving...that is how fed up I am with the nastiness...and believe me, others ...decent people...are about ready to leave also

that should not be happening...

this thread, is just the other side of the coin...and yes, I do post if I have something to say ...but I do NOT attack the way I have been attacked here ...
Don't leave I think you're valuable here.

thank you

alot of people have said that to me...

I believe people can disagree without the personal attacks and the lies and name calling

Of course, there is never as excuse for lies and name calling.
I have found some people are only nice with those who agree with them, this to is also wrong. Jesus didn't say, treat others how you want to be treated but only when they agree with you.

Most heresy hunters, ‘false’ prophet exposé’s, or revival police begin with the premise that the ones they are pointing the finger at ARE false brethren and are wolves. Yet most of these brethren hold orthodox views and the Bible is very clear that we should think the best, ‘love thinks no evil’ 1 Cor. 13.

The hunters begin with a wrong attitude to begin with and only get worse.

Is there ever an excuse to turn a blind eye to someone speaking lies and naming calling if that person is a friend?

We are supposed to think, hope and wish the best for others. The problem is that they do it under the guise of love. They tell you....I just love you so much that I want to help you by pointing out how wrong and deceived you are. Lol

It can be amazing and revealing what some people say in the name of 'love'

it's actually a religious spirit ... not the Holy Spirit

It is about power and control. I've seen plenty of people who have this compulsive desire.

I liked the original post because I thought it was valid. But this is just a mess. I really would appreciate it if people stopped attacking each other. The holier-than-thou types also annoy the crap out of me, but it's best not to dwell on such things.

Not sure what this has to do with people lying and name calling?
If a friend is lying and calling people names, would you say something or would you turn a blind eye?

You know I love you tin.....but I really dislike bullies. Especially spiritual ones....they are the worst kind in my opinion. They do more damage to people's hearts than anyone else. I like calling them out.

exactly

I have also seen that a person who has been 'controlled' with someone with a spirit like that, seems to be attacked by people with a spirit like that

we have to learn to be strong in the Lord...those kinds of spirits will often attack people who like to please others or are insecure

it is indeed about power and control...which is obviously nothing to do with Christianity although it can come disguised so that everyone is not suspecting..

They do a lot of damage to people....the ones who have a compulsive desire to control others for whatever their pet purpose is.
