I'm not the one who needs to study it more carefully.
John 5:25
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
KJV
1 Peter 4:5-6
5 Who shall give account to Him That is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
KJV
The phrase "now is" was specific to the resurrection that happened on the day of Jesus' crucifixion. It's basis is prophecy from the OT when Jesus would declare Victory, and lead those who believe The Gospel out of the prison house in the heavenly ("spirits in prison"). Some try to say Jesus preached The Gospel to evil spirits in the abyss when He died on the cross, treating the word 'spirit' as always applying to a demon. Simply not true. Jesus preached The Gospel in hell to those who had died in sin back in the OT.
But the event of John 5:28-29, we well know... it has not happened yet, because it must accompany the event of Jesus' 2nd coming and gathering of His Church from both... Heaven, and the earth.
So the John 5:25 and John 5:28-29 Scriptures are about 2 different timings and events.
Yes HE did...because that is what the word said. (1Peter 3 - maybe you need to review it again?)
And who called them "evil"?
You?
They were disobedient sinners just like all of us were disobedient sinners separated from the PROMISES of GOD which are found in CHRIST JESUS. They (that generation who had died before HIS FIRST COMING) did not benefit until HE came and set free what belonged to GOD...
And for GOD to send HIS SON into the world and then overlook those who had died before HIS FIRST COMING, that they could not have the GOSPEL preached to them and were lost forever, would have shown GOD to be unjust.
That "one time event"...HE descended to preach to those who were held captive in captivity WAS a ONE TIME EVENT.
HE opened the door of Hades and took back what belonged to GOD, that generation who had not benefitted by HIS FIRST PHYSICAL COMING.
For, if you do not believe that these were held captive in captivity and were "set free" when HE led captivity captive in HIS TRAIN...who do you think CHRIST was referring to when HE said, the Men of Ninevah will stand in the judgment and condemn this generation?
That generation were those who had not, while they were alive, heard the GOSPEL preached...
It is THIS GENERATION, those who were alive who have heard the GOSPEL preached who will be judged more harshly..
When CHRIST said, a wicked generation asks for a sign...HE was referring to this generation. That is, the generation which benefitted by HIS FIRST COMING...who still continue in disbelief.
As to John 5, I have NO IDEA why you can not understand that I clearly know that there are those who have heard THE VOICE of the SON of GOD now...and have already passed from death to life
And then there are those who have NOT heard the VOICE of the SON of GOD (I clearly know the difference between "now" and "afterwards") and the even in John 5:28-29 has NOT happened yet...I agree.
What is the confusion?
The event in John 5:28-29 lines up perfectly with the Judgment mentioned in Revelation
AFTER the 1000 year reign...
Do we really have to go through this again?
Revelation 20:
And I saw thrones, and
they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and
I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received
his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and
they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.
This
is the first resurrection.
6Blessed and holy
is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
This is the first resurrection applies to those who live BEFORE and reign with HIM DURING the 1000 year reign...
I told you there is a difference between those who have a part in the FIRST RESURRECTION from those who are raised (as mentioned in John 5:28-29) afterwards who are judged according to their works...
Revelation 20:11 goes on to detail what happens after the 1000 year reign, after the battle and after satan is cast in the Lake of Fire...
FOr you will remember? That BEFORE the 1000 year reign, the dead remained dead in their graves and ONLY the beast (the false christ) and the false prophet are cast into the Lake of Fire...
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is
the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Don't you understand that the dead in their graves were raised in the final judgment and those whose names were not found suffered the SECOND DEATH?
