Strange. I would think the way, the truth and the light would be universally accepted as the only way by believers. Apparently you disagree that man's heart is on evil continually and that loving God and others is our purpose instead.
 
I find mimetic theory a bit narrow (focused?). While not without merit, it seems to lack a pathology which exists in current models such as 'stage change theory'. The sins of the father's are visited on the second and third generations. Traditions of man lead to progressive falling away into deeper and deeper darkness.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Did you misunderstand me to say that this theory is somehow a way to Salvation? I said it is a means to understanding why we so easily turn on one another.

And I certainly do disagree that my heart is on evil continually. Yours may be... I can't say. But I have good, warm thoughts most of the time.
 
I suppose the main argument could be one of accountability. I think I would
prefer accountability instead of the word mimicry.

He seemed to believe in evolution. In evolution there is limited
accountability, apart from that which strives to prolong survival.
ie I want to survive, you want to survive so let's blame someone else for the
wrong doing etc.

That is seen the world over but I don't think it's evolution.
Its the sinful nature of man strife, envy greed and most of all fear through unmet needs.
I think Satan plays on those fears. Did the author understand that at the time of writing?
I don't think he did.

Thankfully there is no condemnation for those in Jesus etc. The answer is Jesus, the opposite
of perfect fear is perfect love which casts out fear.

Jesus always was the answer the ultimate scapegoat.

Further, one might ask - who are these "Lord's" who fear man might become like one of us? The 322 cult - see Gen 3:22 et. seq.

Not saying the man or the theory are without merit - and double kudos for seeing it in the Bible. Just saying, for those with eyes to see - the Bible is much deeper and more rich.

Oh, I think I see the problem now. You think that tiny article I posted is René's theory? Hardly. That was just a glimpse... and not even written by the man who introduced the thought.

It would have been overwhelming to the majority here to post René's actual words. He is so much deeper than this little bit I posted. (That is why I have said I wish there were people here who could really discuss the theory, since I want to learn so much more than what I have been able to glean in two years of reading about it).

Its nice you have found something which really grips your thoughts and interests you.
Cant really knock something which gets the gray matter turning over. Lol

I just prefer to put a biblical slant on things and try to see them from God's perspective,
that's not to say great thinkers can't teach us something. It's just that without God, great
thinkers or our time are always going to be flawed in there thinking.
Look at Darwin, Stephen Hawking, Freud to name a few of many. We can consider and
even learn from them to some extent, but they can only go so far without true knowledge.
Otherwise it gets messy.

Maybe you can re- write it with a Christian slant, oh and change the name. Then I might be
intersted . Lol

Yes, of course. There is absolutely no difference in the human heart after God redeems us. You were always a good warm-thought kind of guy and always will be. That's naturally why you aren't sure of me. How could I dare trust God's explanation? Next time I'll pick Thoreau, Emerson, Confucius, or Mao.

Boy, when you won't get the gospel IS the answer the question of violence but some theory is, you won't let that one go.

Seriously?

How many times have you seen, or done it yourself, the rather silly posting of just a Scripture......... (as though no one else had a bible) with the idea of "Well, now that I have posted that, everyone knows what it means" (at least what I am positive it means), and how it is seen in our lives, and how we can deal with it, and how it develops in our childhoods, and the implications to our communities and politics, and a hundred and one other things that a well-studied person can enlighten us about?

You can see right here how effective that sort of thing is to new converts or searchers who come here. We blow religious smoke up their hind-ends, and they stagger off more confused than before they arrived......... wondering why in the world we didn't try to offer them an answer that made some sense to them.

And we are so proud of saying something religious-sounding like, "The Spirit will guide you."
 
Willie I don't know much about the man, but was he a Christian at the time he
wrote the article? It reads as if he wasn't?

Did he revise any of it or make any further comments about it after becoming a Christian?
