Willie I don't know much about the man, but was he a Christian at the time he
wrote the article? It reads as if he wasn't?

Did he revise any of it or make any further comments about it after becoming a Christian?
Yeah, I think he wrote around 50 full-length hardback books on the subject, and about a thousand papers and essays.

Here's one short article.....

Rene Girard on the Divinity of Christ and Virgin Birth

Um interesting.

Perfect love is difficult to achieve and maintain for any length of time even for the bible
believing, born again, spirit filled, seminar taught, person who fasts every month. Sorry im
just throwing out all the phrases I can think of. Lol

There is always the temptation to get moody, or snap at people, or assume the worst in people
even if Christians don't go on a violent rampage. Then there is pain, tireness, frustration, feeling
stressed to contend with.

Ephesians 4:25-27 NKJV
[25] Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,"
for we are members of one another. [26] "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun
go down on your wrath, [27] nor give place to the devil.

Be angry and do not sin - I wonder how many can truthfully say they practice this. I wonder
how many do give place to the devil among Christians - I would suggest 100% so the non
Christian has no chance.

I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit when I was around the age of 11, I was awake but found
myself enveloped in the love of God, it was all consuming in a good way, every other emotion
just disappeared and nothing else mattered. It was just a small taste of Gods love and it was
indescribable. I have experienced it since but not to that same intensity.

We have such a long way to go to understand and comprehend that love, it will take time and
into eternity itself to fully know.

Someone reminded me today of Steven Wilkinson and his book the cross and the switch blade.
That is a good example of love overcoming violence. I remember reading it ages ago and there was
a bit with one gang member saying he could cut him up into little pieces. Steven Wilkinson
replied that every piece would say he loved him.

Sin brought violence into the world, the antidote is the perfect love of God expressed via
the death of Jesus who experienced that sin and violence on His own body.

Do you know if Guy Lefort was a Christian was he playing devils advocate in the question/answer.

I have no idea who he is. But, often these guys have someone playing that role. Sometimes they sound as mean and vindictive as some of our members often do. LOL

A friend of mine has several videos up where he is directly debating with some of the heads of America's top Satanist or Atheist groups. It is quite interesting, because they have no idea what to do when he agrees with them about some of the standard defenses we Christians use... and they were well armed and prepared for him to fight with them over those selected points.

This is a good thread topic. I do not dispute the basis of the theory. It is good to see sometimes that people are out there, giving credit to the Bible and trying to explain the nature of untrained man in a secular way to a lay - perhaps even - an Ekklesia-stical audience.

The topic and it's explanation are deep because the issue of human nature and behavior are deep.

Perhaps a good summary of the man and his theory, interwoven in Biblical context would be of good value. Indeed, one could (but probably should not) make a book and career out of the task.

Thanks for sharing Willie. As a student of the social science's as well as the Bible I find the topic/thread useful and thought provoking.

If one were to take such a subject to a court of law, it would probably have to use this approach - tempered with scripture.

Willie-T. Keep up the good work. There has been a discussion about René Girard and his mimetic theory among some Christians in my area. We need to think deeply and dive into these important topics.

On a related note, I have a variety of Christian friends - some who IMO are very narrow thinkers and take the bible VERY VERY literally - as in this is how I was taught and that is how I will think - and others who are interested in diving deeply into subjects that are sometimes controversial. By controversial, I mean: " how has the church created and perpetuated the idea of white churches and black churches. What is spiritual abuse? What role do I play in these issues......I won't go further because I will further offend some here on CC.

I am developing an interesting opinion of the profile of each of these 2 groups of believers (very literal, not willing to consider new and different ideas and those who...well, are willing.)

I know i am going to get pushback. Sigh...
