the ark encounter is an evangelistic theme park based around the biblical account of noah...the centerpiece of the park is a full size wooden replica of noah's ark...built to the biblical dimensions...

inside the ark are educational and evangelistic exhibits...speculative models of pre flood animal kinds...and a theater for showing films specially produced for the ark encounter...

there is also a zoo with exotic animals and a petting zoo for children plus animal rides...

the ark encounter has been a side project of answers in genesis...the christian apologetics and biblical authority ministry responsible for the creation museum and the answers conferences...

a ribbon cutting ceremony took place yesterday...today was a select VIP and media opening...and tomorrow is the grand opening...

Heard about that on the news earlier.. Nonbelievers aren't too happy apparently such thing was created. One person interviewed said something along the lines he felt it was an insult to science.

Right, Rachel. Speculative models of pre-Flood animal and bird kinds based on fossil finds.

Yes, I'm excited! I hope to visit the Ark in the near future. Maybe towards the end of the year.

atheists and other anti creationists have tried their best to stop the ark encounter from becoming a reality...the faithful workers have had to overcome some serious obstacles...

for example the ark encounter was granted a kentucky tax rebate that is intended to make tourist attractions more profitable in order to encourage expansion of the tourist industry in the state... however under pressure from atheist groups...the governor of kentucky later revoked the tax rebate...which would have made it more difficult to run the ark encounter without incurring losses... answers in genesis had to go to court to win back the tax rebate that the park had already qualified for...fortunately the judge ruled in favor of the ark encounter...

the ark encounter project also had to deal with bad press early on...based on misreporting about the same tax rebate... dishonest or sloppy news media were reporting that the ark encounter would be partially funded with kentucky taxpayer dollars...when in fact the ark encounter received no money from the government...only a -rebate- decreasing the amount of tax collected from the park...just like other tourist attractions in kentucky...

a lot of hard work and perseverance have gone into making the opening of the ark encounter possible...God has blessed their efforts so far and i believe the park will be a powerful witness for the truth of the bible and the gospel of jesus christ...noah's savior and ours :)

Man...this really sounds like something a certain secular businessman would supposedly do. Is it for profit or non profit? I wonder if Rachel will hold Ken Ham to the same standards she holds another well known businessman. I see some 'persecution' ahead for this business venture.

Why, dear brother? The Ark Encounter is a giant biblical creation museum. It's quite a valid venture. Very necessary in this pluralist society we live in. If it was about Ken Ham, I can see why there would be issues. But it's not about him, it's about Jesus and His kingdom and opening many people's hearts to the Gospel. Finally, yes. You do have to pay to board the Ark. But it's a mighty expensive operation, so that's only expected. They'll make some good money, eventually. But I think it'll take many years to turn a profit.

I'm mostly just picking on Rachel. I remember there being quite a bit of controversy considering the nature of funding for this place. Actually there will probably be more if it doesn't do well because it was built with a substantial loan from taxpayers called a tif. Where the taxes paid are actually paid towards the loan. If it fails as a business venture the taxpayers are left holding the bag. I wonder if Rachel will hold Ken to the same standard she holds another individual if this doesn't work out.

I'd love to go. (Never will.) So take lots and lots of pictures. I saw some small animated dinos on it. I love it! I'm bugged we had to go right when the news story came on.

Is there something wrong with making a profit as a Christian business?

Got to say, The Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and '6ers all got the no-tax deal Philadelphia gives all large businesses for the first few years they start the business in this city. That building the DNC is using in 19 days? Never cost the builders a penny in taxes. So why should businesses owned by and run by Christians be treated different than businesses that pay some of their employees 6-7 figures per year?

We still do have the right to make money as Christians, don't we? And we still have the right for the same deals non-Christians get for business start-ups, don't we?

Seems to me, Kentucky owes that business some money they took from them, when they shouldn't have taken it.

I don't see creationism converting folks to Christianity. I do see it making them question their long-held trust in the manure brainwashed into them in school. And once they get brave enough to question something that big, then they can ask the next question, "What other questionable views have I bought wholesale? Maybe it's time to truly start thinking things out for myself."

But that's the extent of converting them. Ultimately, we're really not interested in God until God makes us interested in him. And by the time we start thinking about it? He already grabbed us.

Sure thing, sister. I'll get one of my brothers to take many photos to share. I think we may be going towards the end of this year. It's quite the commitment travelling overseas, from Australia.

Who knows? The seed of faith needs to start somewhere. For some people, this could be the last step of their journey in coming to Christ. For others, as you've already mentioned, it could get the ball rolling by having them think critically about their worldview and beliefs and values based on their worldview. And that's something. God can do whatever He wills. I'm not going to limit God. God bless, sister. :)

so the second day of the ark encounter's opening...none other than 'science guy' bill nye accepted ken ham's invitation for a personal tour of the ark...

many people will remember that bill nye and ken ham were opponents in a widely publicized debate over creationism some time ago... the publicity surrounding the debate can be credited with drawing attention...and donations...to ken ham's answers in genesis ministry and its ark encounter side project...

nye opposed the ark encounter project...saying at one point that he hoped it would never be built...but he accepted ham's invitation for a personal tour of the ark...

according to ken ham's blog on the answers in genesis site...nye wanted to begin with the exhibits about the evidence for the genesis flood...and so ham began the tour with those... ken ham reports that they got into heated discussion...which moved from the initial discussion of evidences to the larger issue of worldviews... ham also shared the gospel with nye...

nye brought a film crew...i suppose he considers footage of the ark encounter to be something he can use in future productions...

the most exciting part came at the end of nye's tour...on the first floor of the ark...with many visitors as witnesses...ham asked nye if he could pray for him...and maybe surprisingly...nye permitted this... so ken ham said a prayer over bill nye...praying that his visit would have an effect and that nye would be drawn to the gospel of jesus christ...

i don't know what are the chances of nye coming to christ...let alone subscribing to the young earth worldview presented at the ark encounter... but my understanding is that for such a prominent creationist to get the chance and consent to say a prayer over such an outspoken evolutionist is something highly unusual...

i cannot but think that God was doing some kind of work there!

One thing that is somewhat interesting to me about these two guys is that neither has an earned degree beyond a B.S.

Nye has a bunch of honorary doctoral degrees.

Ken Ham is the figurehead of Answers in Genesis, but he's not the only person. There's a whole team of scientists. And many of them have PhDs.

I saw Ken Ham at a conference in Edmonton a few years back. He was a passionate and informed speaker. He also was an excellent evangelist! He brought other speakers who talked about various science issues, and why evolution could never answer so many questions about physiology.

I wish him well on this endeavour!
