Although repentance does mean to change the mind .Its first things first.
I would ask. Change one’s mind in respect to what or who ? A change of heart ? The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked as in who could know it.???
It is simply a judgement hall that either accuses us or excuses us. All people in jail used their heart /conscience .We can see where it led them. Not by the Spirit of Christ through the hearing of Christ's faith.
Unless Christ working in us does the first work to turn us toward Him by which we can believe Him, no man could repent. He would have to work according to the hearing of His faith to first turn us so that then we can repent. He does all the work of salvation to include the work of repentance. To repent is a work of God if we have it in respect to our own selves we blaspheme the Holy name we are called by .It is simply not of ourselves lest any boast in false pride.
The perfect law of repentance is defined below . Again no turning according to the hearing of faith , no God, no repentance.
I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God.Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.. Jer 31:18
Remember according to Galatians 3. It is God who turns us with the hearing of His faith by which we then have received the Holy Spirit. This is in respect to Christ’s voice and not our deceitful hearts.
This work he performed is our first love, knowing we love Him because he first loved us by giving us ears to hear Him who has no form . If we have begun in the Spirit he will turn us so that we then can repent . If we make the church as that we see walking by sight our first love by following the opinions of the elders or men leading as did the Nicolaitanes, we have fallen from grace and need to repent and do the first works(believe God )as he gives us his faith to make it all possible.
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left “thy first love”.Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen (thy first love), and repent, and do the “first works” ( believe God through the hearing of faith ) ; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. He that "hath an ear", let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God Rev 2:2
