Yup that pretty much sums it up, but will also add that fishes generally rots from the head.....poor leadership at the top/aka not spiritual pastors elect non-spiritual people to positions they are unfit/unqualified for. If the head is not right the body won't be either.
I haven't read the thread by Lilli, but it seems to me a lot of church leaders are motivated more by self-aggrandizement than they are by duty to our Lord.

If your topic is starting off like this. Then you have Church Hurt and If being hurt by Church causes you to loose faith in God. Well then your faith was in people..not in God.

I do have faith in God. It is the actions of people that bother me.
And BurlyCarl, I work on Sunday's for my employer since I am put on the schedule to work those days. I have not been to church in a while because of this. I work for Kroger as a cashier. The location I work at expects you to be available to work on the weekends.
I was unemployed for 4 months. Guess who got me my job?

Probably deeper than someone who is not one.
Short answer is sin.
No vision of the holiness of God. No vision of the judgment of God on sin. Assuming that God's longsuffering toward us is an indication that judgment will not come.

I'm a Deacon at my church. I'm Presbyterian, I know different denominations and probably other churches have different role's and responsibilities from others.
I do what I'm needed to do or asked inside the church and outside the church. We go to homebound people and offer communion. I visit elderly members. I have made hospital visits, helped with funeral wake's, prayed with people.
One thing I know I am is flawed. I make mistakes, I sin, I'm not proud of that. I don't know why Lilly's Husband has the problems he does, I don't know him personally but I do know that I am no better than him or anyone else that walks this earth. I'm just a flawed person who is grateful to be alive. None of us are perfect and that's why those things happen.

it seems that these days everyone puts themselves on an equal basis as everyone else, whether they
are ministers, deacons, etc. - I have always supposed that God has assigned them to be
in a special posotion in order to make their congregation healthier and how to learn and grow closer
and more obedient to the ways of God the Father...
Fenner, it looks like you have been in here posting for several years and that you feel that you
are in the same place... no matter where others are in their walk with Christ...
we are to be growing in Christ, day-by-day, and OVER-COMING the things that we know are holding
us back from being the very best Soldiers that Jesus wants us to become - if this isn't happening,
then there is something terribly wrong and if something isn't done about this, then you can only
be living a lie...

I honestly don't believe I'm better than anyone else. The drug addict, the adulterer, etc. I don't do those things and live a normal healthy life, but even criminals are children of God. How did you get I'm not growing from my post. Is it because I chose not have pointless fights in the Bible discussion forum?

should be considered much better 'over-comers' than the rest of us who are striving to serve in love
and humility...
of course we are all flawed in 'some' ways, but don't consider ourselves as 'flawed' as DEACONS'...
if you are unable to accept loving criticizim, then call it what makes you comfortable and go on
and do what ever keeps you where you are...

My point is, you don't know me. I don't put myself on a pedestal. My church might be different then your church. We have duties as Deacons. I am a regular person, there's no holy sign above me that says, DEACON. I help my church and I help in my community. i don't brag about it. The people I go to church with know who the Deacons and elders are. When I meet someone new I don't say, hello I'm a Deacon, put on a pedestal worship me. Or should I do that? Should I go around and say, everyone I am a Deacon, I have no faults?
My point to the original poster was, We are human beings, sometimes we fall short, that's why things happen . No human as hard as we try is perfected.
Maybe you are. Would you like me to build a shrine for you?
I don't mean to be hostile, I'm not normally like that. I am saying that sometimes people in a position such as a Deacon or a Pastor or a teacher do thing's that aren't right and when it comes out or they admit what they've done, people are shocked and surprised and sometimes disgusted.
I'm not saying I don't think the church asking me to be a Deacon isn't a responsibility and I do try to live a life that God is pleased with, but if Someone came up to me and said, Jen, my Husband is a Deacon and he had an affair, why would he a Deacon of all people do that to me? WhT that person did was wrong. Maybe that person shouldn't be a Deacon until they change and grown in their relationship with God. But when someone who is in a position like that does the wrong thing, they are human and they failed.

On my side of the street you could be a deaconess but not a deacon. The qualifications for deacon are similar to those of a pastor. The husband of one wife thingy disqualifies you from that office. That may be a technicality but certainly living a life above reproach is an essential quality.
I'm glad you serve and I'm certain you strive to live a life that is an example to others.
