You know what is real hard to understand? The food deserts in Houston. There are neighborhoods in Houston that are miles away from grocery stores. All they have are little convenient stores. I guess the same thing occurs in rural areas as well, but one would just assume every neighborhood in Houston would be in close proximity to a grocery store.

It's like that in the Rio Grande Valley as well, Eternallife. But I guess we could classify RGV as a rural area. You definitely need a car in some of these ghost towns of Texas.

All the walmarts here were all open 24 hours until a year ago. Now almost all of them close at midnight. I'm in southern california. I used to love shopping after midnight because I practically had the whole store to myself. Not good for the sleep cycle though..

I guess people eat a lot can foods and sandwich meat from the convenience stores or make several bus trips throughout the week here in Houston. Also there are probably a lot of restaurants.

What is a cakewalk? I always thought it was just an expression. It really is a thing?
It's similar to musical chairs. Actually it's just musical chairs and the prize is a cake. I love playing it! I've won pretty often. :D

It's very popular with schools, children's parties, and church functions.

Sometimes they use blocks instead of chairs. Whichever number is picked out from the hat will win a cake!

I grew up in the RGV and my mom would just go buy groceries on the weekends. It wasn't that hard. But if they don't have a car, I can see how it would be very difficult.

maybe its a more american thing
Oh, you're probably right, Missy! I just remember first seeing the word many, many years ago as a difficulty level option in computer games/video game. I didn't know what 'cakewalk' meant, but I assumed that because it was the first option, it probably meant it was the easiest setting for gameplay.

And if you go shopping in the middle of the night you get great customer service. Most of the employees are stocking shelves and they are more than happy to take a break and help you find something. You actually feel like you're doing them a favor when you ask them something. :D

It's a colloquialism for something that is really easy to do.

"Hey man, you tried COD: Modern Warfare?"
"Man, that whole game is a total cakewalk. You should try Far Cry 4 on realistic setting. You beat that, then you can brag."

In the world it seems after people turn a certain age life isn't as good as when they were say 21. Not so when you walk with Christ correctly. My life is so much better now than even when I was 18.

"My worst days now
Are better than my best days then
My lowest times with Jesus
Sure beats that old life I lived in sin
I didn't know how bound I was
Till He set me free
But since He changed my life
It's amazing now to see
My worst days now
Are better than my best days then"

I got to sleep in this morning, and that was awesome. I harvested another batch of chives and have them in the dehydrator. Supper is figured out and will take me just a few minutes to toss together. Things are going well today.

Said to myself while cutting up a package of "irregular slices" bacon for supper tonight:

"Gee, I didn't know you could run pork bellies through a wood chipper. Learn something new every day."
