Matthew 10: 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

John 18:
Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Therefore they said to him, “You are not also one of His disciples, are you?”He denied it and said, “I am not!”
26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” 27 Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.

Peter did deny Jesus three times, but we can always repent of our sins, and be forgiven, which is what Peter did.

Peter did not deny God,He denied the man Christ Jesus.

Whoever says anything against the Son,the flesh, can be forgiven them, but whoever speaks against the Spirit shall not be forgiven them.

Peter did not go against God,but against the man Christ Jesus, the flesh.

Also Peter did not deny Jesus as Lord and Savior, but only denied Him because He was scared, trying to save His own skin, which when the smoke cleared and he repented of it,was back to square one with Jesus.

If a person confesses Christ as Lord and Savior, but is ashamed of Him,because they care about what people think,or to save their skin, they can always repent of it,and stop acting that way.

Peter denied Jesus and repented. He died as a martyr.

I disagree, Peter did not repent the Lord just forgave.....

Luke 23:34Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

I think this prayer goes farther than the people who handled Jesus.

Peter would of had to repent, which means that he never wanted to deny Jesus again, for do you think that Jesus would of forgave Peter if he thought in the future I will deny you again Jesus,so obviously Peter repented, which he did not want to deny Jesus again, which is the only way to be forgiven.

If we sin, will God forgive us,if we think I know I will do that sin again, but He will not forgive us,until we decide I do not want to do that sin again, and then we will be forgiven.

Also when Jesus said, forgive them Father for they know not what they do,is not addressed to the believers of Christ, but addressed to the people that crucified Him,symbolic of the world that denies Him,and goes against Him.

What Jesus is saying is this,Father forgive them for going against Me,for they know not of their actions, not quite grasping who I am,and even though they go against Me in ignorance, forgive them and allow them to be saved,if they come to the truth of who I am,and believe.

We all were without Christ until a certain point, and if someone does not believe in Christ, but with more information, believes on Christ, can be saved.Forgive the world Father for they know not what they do.

61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly

He did repent.

Are you saying because he wept he repented....don't see it. The scriptue that shows where he repented is missing in my bible can you show it to me? I could be wrong so please show.

Peter denied our Savior 3 times right? the following text is Peter being restored, 3 times he denied him for fear of his life, and 3 times our Savior spoke to Peter each time showed Peter not only was he forgiven but he would be an undershepherd directly appointed by Him, Joh 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
Joh 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Joh 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
also when Mary left the tomb the words spoken to her were tell my disciples
and Peter. Mar 16:7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

Yes. I am saying that he repented and felt horrible for denying him. He repented because next time he had the opportunity to confess him and die for him, he did no longer hesitate, but accepted the martyrdom and even asked to be crucified upside down because he didn't feel worthy to die like our Lord.

Tears is not always a sign of repentance. To me he repented on the beach with Jesus.

what does it mean to repent?

isn't it to hate the sin?
to turn from it, in your heart; to acknowledge that it is sin?

and the fruit of this -- isn't it to regret what you have done?
((i.e. weep bitterly))
and to within yourself, make effort to act otherwise in the future?

so if Peter sinned by denying Christ, what would we expect to see if he repented?
shouldn't we expect that he should express regret?
that he should express distaste for denying Christ? that he should acknowledge that denying Christ is a sin?
that he should acknowledge Christ in the future?

we see all these things.
he wept bitterly.
he preached Christ.
in his epistles, he indicates that denying Christ is sin.

so we don't see it written specifically ". . . and Peter genuinely repented"
so what?
is that our business? do we need to see that written or else it's not true?
we see all the things that genuine repentance ought to produce, even though i would say that one may be genuinely repentant of something, and hate it in their hearts, and fully acknowledge within themselves that some behavior is a sin -- and yet that person may outwardly still commit the same sin.
in such a case, there may be some doubt, if a person does not in their actions completely overcome the sin.

but in Peter, we see everything i understand that we should see, and should hope to see.

make sense?

mormons, and some others, say that no one has truly repented of a sin unless that is completely eradicated from their lives. so in that case, no one may ever be said to have repented until after they die -- because what if you have internally hated lies, and acknowledge before God that lying is sin, and you have gone on for your whole life without ever lying -- but ten minutes before you pass away, you said something that was not true? then the mormon would say you never repented, and so you were never forgiven.
surely that's not what you believe, is it pottersclay? i think that is completely wrong. i am sure of it.

so even if Peter denied Christ again years later -- which he did, by his actions, not thinking, when he got up and left the gentile table and ate with the Jewish believers, and Paul rebuked him, saying he was denying the gospel to do so -- then this doesn't mean that Peter never repented of denying Christ, as i understand it. it means that he was weak, and not thinking clearly in those instances, and so committed sin. that's all. but i believe he is also forgiven :)

We have two different Peter's here...one without the holy spirit...one with...Now if you read a few lines before your first verse it is a prophecy being fulfilled here so keeping that in mind let's move to another verse that has to do with the same text in a way. We know that Peter was a disciple right...so why does this scripture read like this?

. 7 But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.”

Since REPENTING is to change your mind..... Did Peter ever stop believing in Christ, even if he did get scared and said he didn't know him? No, I don't think he did.

So, if he never changed his mind about loving Christ from the time he originally REPENTED and became a follower.......... what would he have to rethink, and make a decision for that night? Nothing. He just had to stifle the momentary fear he gave in to, and step back up, continuing his walk.

We don't repent, and repent, and repent again, and keep on repenting every few days for the rest of our lives.

Repenting is not wailing and feeling sorry. Don't you think every person who drowned in the flood, and every person in Sodom wailed and felt sorry, wishing they had done differently? You better believe they did. Every criminal wishes he could cry and wail his way out of his sentence.... but few CHANGE THEIR MINDS, and decide to go straight.

All the Jews who brought their sacrifices to the temple felt sorry and made a fine demonstration of wailing and showing sorrow.(Why do you think they call the place of Jewish prayer, "THE WAILING WALL?")

why does this scripture read like this?

. 7 But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.”

i've wondered if this wasn't written just as it was, because Peter wasn't in the same place as the others . . ?
or maybe He is simply saying to tell Peter in particular, because Peter was perhaps particularly troubled, having denied Him, and having been told by Him to put away his sword, and so was feeling overwhelming guilt and remorse.

but also why is it written in first Corinthians 15,

" . . he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve."

so He appeared to Peter first, and then to all of them together?
((does this mean Peter was one of those on the road to Emmaus?))

. . or would you say this also means Peter wasn't counted as an apostle at the time?

((the question may come up, why "
the twelve" instead of eleven or less? but it's reasonable that Matthias may have been added to the number by then, or that "the twelve" is simply being used as a descriptive for the group, rather than a literal quantity.))

it also remains that Peter never denied that Jesus was the Christ -- Peter only denied that he knew Him, or was with Him.
there is a difference.

Peter denied Jesus and repented. He died as a martyr.
(1) There is no Trinity of 3 persons..(2) When Peter denied Jesus he had not been Biblically converted at that point..Peter was still.in The OT, because the NT when he and the others wete converted began in Acts Chapters One and Two. Renember, when Jesus told Peter that Satan wanted to sift him like wheat, and Jesus then said, "I pray that when YOU ARE CONVERTED......."

Renember, when Jesus told Peter that Satan wanted to sift him like wheat, and Jesus then said, "I pray that when YOU ARE CONVERTED......."

erm, i think you are guilty of a bit of misquoting there . .

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
(Luke 22:31-32)

please notice also that there is no "if" there -
- but Christ says "
when you have turned again . ."

Who says that Peter denied Christ?

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. Matt 26:75

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. Mark 14:72

If one seeks to condemn the faithful by the word, at least know the word of which ye speak.

18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
Luke 9:18-21

Such a mind set is secular. Peter's faith failed not: beside that, if we were to consider the matter spiritually, and not carnally, then we would know to deny (or disown) Christ is a complete turning away from Him as an apostate, and not merely in a state of confusing doubt for a moment. The Lord knows them that are His, and He knows them that are not His, such as those that would pervert the Word of God to sow discord.
