For me, when I read the Scripture that said desire prophesy and pursue love. I said okay God, I ask for prophesy, since in your Scripture you have told me to ask and desire it.

My posture has been, if the gifts are for today, and I believe they are. And they will set people free, then it is pursuing love that causes me to desire the gifts to bring the captives freedom and to build up the church.
Precisely. It is the loving thing to do, to operate in the gifts the Holy Spirit has equipped us with to edify the body of Christ.

Agreed, but this does sound somewhat different than you other initial posts.

We are do as Jesus did, this is what James said to do, so that our faith is justified before men, not to build the kingdom of God on earth, you and I may part company here.
We might. Here is the Scripture I try to follow daily in regards to this:

Matt 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

I used to seek things, not bad things either, but you know I used to seek how could I make money to help lots of people, how could I start more ministries, how could I change the world, etc. But now the Lord has simply said, just seek my Kingdom, look at what I am doing and saying, and agree with Me. And I will add all those other things to you as you are ready.

So now, I wake up, and ask God what are You doing? And then I get to see Him do marvelous things in and through my life. I could tell you so many incredible stories of what He has done. I don't always get it right though :) I've probably given money to quite a few people because I felt like He called me to, today, I was looking for a homeless person to give food to because I felt the Lord tell me do so. But I couldn't find him. So I guess I heard wrong there. I'm still growing in this.

And yes I agree, He doesn't contradict His Scriptures. :)

Fair enough, but I still do not believe that scripture teaches a private unintelligible angelic prayer language.

However we shall not go down that path again.

Like Paul I would rather you ask for prophesy, than tongues. :)

Well if you see yourself as igniting the passion in people to live more fully in Jesus and serve Jesus more completely that is a

good thing...Amen you go brother.... but I do not see that as creating heaven on earth, I see it as bringing some of Gods goodness

to earth, but if you think we can incrementally create heaven on earth....well let me just say....it aint gonna happen I think the book ends differently.

I'm sorry UnderGrace if my post earlier was too personal or blunt by the way. You keep shaking your head in sadness and I'm over here like, "If only she knew the damage her beliefs cause." Not even necessarily damage, but more so lack of repair on those that are damaged. The Lord equips us, and we operate in that equipping for the edification of others.

Truly Cee, how many do you think actually seek any gifts whatsoever? I'm going to guess the percentage to be less than 1% of all believers. I'd be surprised if it was greater.

I really don't know, but I remember the day I prayed for it. I was like OKAY GOD, I ask for PROPHESY. Lol.

It felt pretty crazy, but it was a moment that I remember just really taking Scripture into my life. And the reality of who God is. Did you ever pray for it?

Sorry but there are some doctrines that bother me and I have also see the damage they do like the person who wrote the OP.

So I guess we can both shake our heads on this side of eternity.:D

Well, I am happy to report we have a new Christian coming in pretty often.

And heaven is having little parties of JOY every time! And if these Christians obey God, well then God is going to lead them to Heavenly things not evil things. My heart is to connect people to the Spirit of God that leads them, which leads us to walking together as His Body. And ultimately experientially encountering His love as written in Eph 3:19, which then takes us into being filled with all His fullness. And THEN people will know who is a Christian, not by their words, but by their deeds and their character. And even just the presence of the Spirit of the Lord upon them.

Well if you see yourself as igniting the passion in people to live more fully in Jesus and serve Jesus more completely that is a

Haha, gladly, because I love people experiencing God in such a REAL way! It reminds me of this woman and husband I was sharing with, we were talking about calling out the good in each other. And I remember God was like I'm going to heal her of something. And as I was leaving, she mentions not being sure God really heals today, so I shared a quick testimony or 2. And she's like well pray for my foot then, and she takes out this busted up foot. I prayed for her and the Spirit of God healed her! And her toes went from like swollen to normal, and she was jumping up and down on her toes, shouting to her husband God still heals today! God still heals today! Her excitement got me so excited! I was like whoa, God you are awesome!

Dear Ed, if you are gods child, he still cares about you. With ore without sickness. I dont know any word of god which garant us a sickness free life, without taking them out of the context and create a new meaning about it.
If it would be true, that Jesus heals today in the same way, as he did during he´s walk on earth, then it would be seen in the world and in our lives. The reason why Jesus did his miracles we can find in John 20,29-31; He´s reason was not to heal all physical needs. I f you read the gospels you find always that the people came to him. And he was not searching them to heal them. And also his disciples did. After their death we cant find this way of healing in the whole churchhistory, except in sects and non christian groups. Till in 1906 the pentecostal movement arose. I cant find a biblical fundation for their teaching about the baptising with the Holy Spirit and as sign receiving speaking in tongues, without taking the verses out of the context.
I believe that God is healing today too, but mostly not in the way as we read in acts and in the gospels. He does it as answer of our prayer and sometimes he leaves us in our sickness. The most important thing I see is, to trust HIM! He knows us, and he cares about us and he loves us, we feel it ore not. That is what his word say to us!
I hope and pray that you not loosing your faith! People can give you wrong promisses, but our heavenly father never!

Interesting that the people came to Him, I agree we need to trust Him, He is more than able to work out His will for us!!

To the original poster:

Ed,

What is the Spirit of God saying to you?

Faith come by "hearing" and "hearing by the Word"...

This "Word" is the active, living word, from YOUR active living God.

UnderGrace, you often shake your head in sadness when in reality it is quite sad the belief system you hold. A sick person is before you and you cannot heal them. A person is poor before you and you cannot truly help them. A person is demonically oppressed, you cower for you do not know the authority you have. A person is worried for their future, you cannot comfort them with prophecy.
Ben the above analogy concerns me. In the Lord we all have the Holy Spirit who guards
guides and empowers us. Every believer can answer the situations you are possing as if
you are able to do and other believers such as UnderGrace cannot.

But we are all human and we depend on our relationship with Christ alone.

The intention is also to polarise, to say you poor defeated person, look at what I represent
and the failure you represent. This sounds like the spiritual pride the pharisees fell into.

Everytime I go to the Lord, though I know He listens, it is He who acts and moves, I am
merely an expression of His heart.

So where do you get this attitude and condemnation from? Where do you get this insight
and authority? In the Lord I can never say what another can or cannot do, I can only
witness to the Lord and when in His grace He has heard me. All glory goes to the King.

No matter how bad and mistaken people become, it is by grace that we are saved, and we
often stumble into error and false attitudes. As far as I can see Jesus asks us to love one
another and carry each others burdens, not push others down and say I am so much stronger
better than you and your crummy way of believing. For in this the enemy takes a hold
and bring emnity and bitterness, anger and resentment, conflict and slander.

Peter you do realize they have already hugged and accepted each other as children of God, right?

No need to get all judgemental on Ben.

Might want to pray more before posting.

Ben intention is not polarize but to encourage people to walk in the spiritual gifts God has given all His children.

He does not say those things to say "I am better than you" but "look how wonderful God is, He wants you to be this great and powerful to be able set the captives free too."

I don't agree with everything Ben says but his heart seeks God, so I call him brother.

It seems like it is troubling to you because you are thinking a physical Kingdom, but I am discussing a spiritual one.

If we have a King of France, what is his kingdom? It is where his dominion or his reign and rule is obeyed.

It is the same with the Kingdom of God. It is where His reign and rule are obeyed.

When we FOLLOW CHRIST, our Master, our King, we walk in His Kingdom. Jesus said the Kingdom of God was upon them. Why upon them, if he was talking about a physical kingdom? Because He wasn't. He was talking about where the will of God was fully obeyed. He ONLY did what God was doing.
Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
