I was born into a Christian family, so naturally I was raised to believe in Christianity. But when studying world religions, it occurred to me that nearly everyone believes whatever their parents did. And there are thousand of world religions. So I've been wondering... how can we know our religion is the right one without at least learning the others? How can we simultaneously assume everyone else is wrong and we are right? It also begs the question-why are there so many different religions and if they are all fake, how do we know our God isn't fake too?

Last but not least, for everyone answering, what led you to God to begin with? Were all of you born to Christian families? If not, why did you decide on Christianity?

That's not true...
There are many who believe what their parents do, but my parents are strongly against any kind of religion
My father hurt me when he saw I had a Bible. I still have to sneak out to church.
So yes while the majority believe what family did there are many who don't.
I have studied into other religions. I have the Koran and books on Judiasm, Buddhism, and Hiduism.

No I was not born into a Christian family.
What led me to God was reading the Bible, spending nights on my knees begging for strength to make it through and seeing the hope fill me. I had never had that before....only when I opened my heart and eyes to God was I suddenly filled with serinity

I was born into a Christian family, in and out of church my whole life. So yeah I was exposed. But I never followed after one person or train of thought, I figure everyone's got a piece of the puzzle but no one has the whole picture. What convinced me about Jehovah God and the Bible was... well, I'm a functionalist. What concerns me is, blah blah blah aside, when the boots hit the ground does it work? And of the grand sum of all I've seen, heard, and done in my life, the Bible best describes how it all functions. Caveating that most churches present a very limited vision of how those written words translate into spiritual action.

I became a Christian when i was 20/21 years old. A friend at work gave me a Bible to read and i read it all.. It was the Message of the Bible that moved me to become a Christian..

When it all boils down to the basics it is the Message of God that God uses to draw those who are going to be saved.. People who love the Word of God will embrace it and thats the way God wanted it to work.. People can and do seek out alternate messages if they are rejecting the Gospel message of Jesus.. People are falling away from the love of the truth of the Gospel all the time, but others are being drawn into an eternal relationship with God via His Word.. People will be drawn to the message they hold as being good and right in their consciences.. If your love is for what is good and right then you will be drawn into the Faith that holds that truth to be right and good.. But if your love is for things other then the truth you will be drawn into false religions , cults, and unbelief.. It is really simple when it comes down to the basics.. Let each person go the way they are convinced is right and each person will end up in their right eternal location..

One thing i would advise all people to do.. No matter if they are currently believers in God or Not, and that is to call out to God with your own words and with genuine earnestly. Ask God for His mercy upon you. to lead you to the truth and to convict you of it..

I grew up in a christian home. So did my parents. But my grandparents did not. That's where my family began to be Christians. Which is pretty a amazing if you think about it. Convert one man and generation after generation is saved. The each have their own story of how God saved them.

But what does separate God from all other gods or Christianity from all other religions is that He is a living God that rose from the dead and it's the only religion where we have a one on one relationship with Him. I know he is real because I know Him. It's like you know your mom is real because she's there. You know her. You talk to her. You have a relationship with her. It's the same way with Jesus. We have a relationship with Him.

One of the things than stands out most to me with Christianity, compared to other religions, is that Christianity is the only religion that uses grace over works. Other religions teach we are good, or can work to become good. Christianity reveals we are not good, but can be made good, not by what we do, but by what Christ did. And through accepting that it changes us into something good. And nothing we do can make us good on our own.
That Christianity is the only religion that teaches that says something to me.

My mom raised me with Christian values and my father raised me with satanic. The reason that I chose this God is because all these other ''Deitys'' arent perfect. Our God is perfect. He is stronger than all those others Zeus and all that.

I come from a non-Christian background and some of my family are staunchly against it but when I called-out it was God who answered.

I know that the The Bible is older than the Koran and given the Koran has a lot of the Bible in it one has to deduce that the Koran has largely been copied from it. Many other religions have made statements of prophecy that never came to pass in direct contrast to The Bible's prophecies. Jesus and the Gospel witnesses to Him are living proof of the accuracy of The Bible. Our God is the only true God!

Its not just about upbringing, tradition or repeating parrot fashion what your parents tell you.
This is what religion is to most people.

Its about having a real relationship with the one true living God, when you reach that point in
your walk with God you will understand.

All I can tell you for now is God is real, He speaks to us. He teaches us, He lives inside of us
by the Holy Spirit. He answers prayer, He guides, He disciplines. True Christianity is not just
about having a set of beliefs passed down from generation to generation (like Muslims for example).

Its about having a real relatioship with God, just like you do with your own friends.

If you seek Him with all your heart you will find Him for yourself.

To start with there are not thousands of World Religions, there are only around six or seven although there are a fairly large number of different versions of some of them. By definition there can only be one universal God. There is in all religions a common set of moral values but I believe that the Bible and Christianity expresses the fullest revelation of God we can hope to obtain. Other religions fall short of that revelation because they have no concept of salvation through Christ Without that
one has to depend on self effort, hoping that God will accept you through your performance alone..

To begin with there can only be one real God. Most people have an instinctive knowledge of Gods existence and an awareness of the difference between what is right and wrong. All religions include a moral code to live by. The main
vital difference between Christianity and the rest is that the concept of salvation through faith in Christ. No other religion
offers any assurance of salvation. They all rely on how well an individual performs in their lifetime as to whether a person
is allowed into Heaven or whatever their final destination is called. Unfortunately this is a view held by a vast number of people who have no real knowledge of Christianity as well as those who follow other religions.

I attended a Baptist Sunday School as a child. My Mother was brought up in a Christian Children's Home. She had a basic faith in Christ but was not a Church going Christian and my Father was an Atheist until the close of his life when he had a near death experience. Despite my Sunday School experiences I was not a believer in any religion until I reached twenty.
In 1967 I found myself in the middle of the Hippy scene. With the Beatles going to India and the Flower Power movement going strong in the UK I started to explore Eastern Religions. I felt the need to find some answers to life. At that time Christianity was the last thing most young people turned to. Like the Rolling Stones ''I could get no satisfaction'' This situation lasted until in 1970 I went to a party and got drunk. I left the house and remember standing in a street looking up at the night sky and shouting to God asking him where he was. Then one day on my way to work I saw a paperback
called The trial of Jesus of Nazareth. I bought it. It wasn't written by a Christian Author but it set me thinking. It was the first adult book about Christ I had ever read. By this time the Jesus Movement had started gaining ground here. The following year I met a group of young Baptists handing out invitations to their meetings. I started attended them and accepted Christ as my Saviour in 1971 and was Baptised on Easter Sunday in 1972.

I was sorta brought up Christian, but not really.

My mother claimed to believe in Jesus Christ, but she didnt really know who He was. She actually taught us when we were younger that He wasnt God at all. She taught us many other things that are absolutely not biblical too. I have even found now that Im older and wiser that some of the things she taught us arent even IN the bible, but are from the quran! She was not a very strong Christian when she became older. She even got into tarot cards and other pagan things.

So besides knowing the name of Jesus, and that He died on the cross, I really knew nothing about Him : /

I have been called by Him over and over though, always being lead to come back to Him. I met my friend who was Christian back in my occult time as a teenager. And in my old sinful life I was shown what was going to happen to me when I died, and after begging God for help He opened my bible to a verse that directly referenced the life I was living. So yeah, I have absolutely not problem trusting the word of God over everyone else's.



There are ways to know He is the true God btw. Look at His word. Look at what He said about Israel. It would be the burden of the world. The world would gather against it. Even that a man who honors a god of war would one day gather an army against Israel and persecute His people. We can see all of this today. Israel is a really good way to know that God is true.

Also, Jesus rose from the dead. Think about it. If His followers were lying about it, they could have went into His tomb, pulled out His body and marched up and down the streets with it to show everyone He was still dead. But they didnt, they came up with a story about how His followers stole the body, meaning it was in fact missing from the tomb. And His followers continued preaching His Resurrection even after being beaten and tortured, and continued all the way up until their deaths. They gave their lives continuing to preach what He had done. If they were just lying to "gain followers", as the atheists like to claim, would they have willingly and knowingly gave their lives for something they made up? Would they be willing to give up everything they had for absolutely nothing? They died with faith in Him and what He did, that they gave their lives with NO fear.

So yes, Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Even historic accounts not from Christian sources say that His followers went around preaching that He rose from the dead.

You are correct. What many of us call "our Religion", Christianity, is not the only Religion, nor is it the "correct" one. Jesus did not come preaching the Religion His parents followed. In fact, He did not preach any "religion."

He DID preach the awareness of a single God who was not a created thing, but the creator of those things. Before you go off trying to "discover" or adhere to too many different things, you might want to get some basics like that settled in your mind first.

I won't bother going into anything else just yet, because you do seem to still be a bit unfocused and wanderingly wondering to really be at the point to be concerned about "who" you want to worship. I sense you are still at the "What should I be?" phase. And it is going to take moving beyond that for you to want a relationship with Jesus. (Who, by the way, reveals Himself to people in all Religions......... IF they are truly seeking more than just being members of a certain "Religion.)

:pTho I was too lazy to write a full paragraph I still made it yaaaaaaay. But I agree with Ladybug. You MUST add Depleted to the list. Shes more outspoken than me haha. But its true tho. In ALL religions they have dozens of Deieties because none of them is perfect..Except ours. Tho that may not me the exact reason why I came to Christ but it did play a role as well

How can you have studied the other religions and not know? What part of those gods have any positive benefits? What other god changes anyone to the better? Did you really study the other religions, or did you just get a positive review of them by some teachers in school?

i know from my heart that there is only one God. if there are many, than none can truly be called 'God' - so God is one.

in every other 'religion' or 'belief system' or 'theology' or whatever-you-call-it if you're hung up on words,
the picture is mankind reaching up towards God. trying to please Him, trying to be 'good enough' or working to jump through the right hoops somehow. it is all about our effort in some way, physical or mental.

in the gospel as it is written in the Bible, there is a radically different picture, and it is the only place it exists: that of God Himself reaching down towards man, who can never do enough, who can never jump through the right hoops, who can never please Him or satisfy Him or reach Him.

in every belief, it is evident, that God and man are not at peace. through everything else, man must try to make peace with Him - even in Judaism. but through Christ, God has made peace with man!
in what other way is God alone praised, and man's only reasonable response thanksgiving and love?

but it's more than reason. He is inescapable for me. i ran from Him, and He caught me, and was waiting for me. i denied & ignored Him, and He was right in front of my face, irrefutable. i looked past Him, and He was there. i shut my eyes, and He opened them. i died, and He brought me to life. He's inescapable, and He is my Escape!

He bought me, and chose me, and if i struggle against Him, it's wasted effort - because i belong to Him. i could go on and try to look into other beliefs, but He will teach me they are wrong, or He will destroy me and rebuild me -- for which i love Him, and bow -- this is the 'easy way' and the only way, to submit, because He is the Master, He alone!

kind, gracious, patient, loving, just, holy and good - Jesus is Lord of all!!
