Tattoos a sin?

Go back and read the words slowly? I'm not stupid. I have an excellent command on the English language. I am English. It's my native tongue and I can read properly without having to read slowly. I'm not picking fights either but do try not to insult my intelligence. I've already said my part above, read post #11 what my views on tattoos are. I know what she really said. She said in simple plain terms "I don't think they're a sin at all."

And my response was that by that reasoning, she is saying that she needs a tattoo to somehow "look better" or be reminded of some "spiritual experience" that she had. Well you don't need a tattoo to remind you of that, that's what God gave you a memory for, and all you're doing is marring the body that God gave you. It's foolishness. It's vanity. And as God has said, God is Holy, so we should be Holy. 1 Peter 1:16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.

And as jenniferand2 has pointed out Leviticus 19:28 says Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD.

Besides, I was asking her the question not yourself.

Tattoos are ugly, many pretty girls turned into an ugly beast because they tattoo a flower on their ankle or a butterfly over their butt crack.

I agree that there is now "grace" in place but I don't think it's there in order for us to willfully ignore God's wishes or commandments. Would we willfully send Jesus to the cross all over again through choice?

It's not what you say, but how you say it. Do I really need to sit you down and have this talk with you? You're almost 40. You ought to know by now how you say something is every bit as important as what you say. I realize it probably doesn't matter since it's the Internet and you have the safety of distance between you and the person you rake over the coals, but grow up. Save the huffing and puffing for your mates down at the pub.

WOW what is your problem exactly? I'm unsure what it is. Just a lot of finger pointing and name calling and talking down to people like you're all high and mighty. Whoa whoa back up back up. Perhaps you misread something I was asking someone else? Brother let me tell you now, that if you're easily offended and take things out of context a lot you probably really shouldn't be using the Internet.

I was trying to put my point across from the start (to someone else) in the form of two polite, reasonably intelligent questions which I wanted her to answer. Yet here you are doing what you're accusing me of and presuming I have the same intelligence and mentality as "someone down at the pub".

As much as I enjoy that you take so much time to write out this stuff, you're really wasting your time. I honestly don't care what you have to say to me. I won't address the "high and mighty" comment, because that's honestly just silly and I've already been through that with a bunch of people here. It's like talking to a brick wall.

I'm going to go lotion up my tattoos and then eat some bacon wrapped shrimp. I'll think of you while I do it. Toodles.

He won't. My Great Grandfather had Tattoos. He was in the Swedish Navy and he had a couple of anchors and he had Mother in Swedish, his said Mor. He was a Christian. He was skinny so they didn't sag but they faded, plus he got them in like 1919, I highly doubt they had the same stuff they do now back then. But my Grandpa was the kindest most generous person I've ever known. He said was kind of a wild child, but he changed. I don't know if they will show up on our spiritual body, somehow I don't think they will. I can't say for certain since I've never died.

For starters your body doesn't belong to you. You're only "borrowing" it. God does give you freedom of will to do as you please, does that mean we should do it?

You were born without tattoos for a reason. If God wanted us to have tattoos, we'd be born with them! But that doesn't make people who get tattoos evil or bad people. It just makes them naive and not realizing what they're doing.

It is written, the body is a temple. In fact, the full scripture for 1 Corinthians 6:19 says What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

So not only is your body a temple for God to rest in and work in and live in. It's not your own. It's Gods.

So does that mean, if we correctly understand and interpret that scripture, understand that our bodies are merely on loan from God and that they shouldn't really be tampered with, scribbled upon, defaced, spammed, marred, deformed, pierced or otherwise. And that we are made in the image of God so we are already perfectly made (whichever way we are born deformed or not) according to His perfect and Holy will, that it is a sin to get a tattoo or a piercing?

In a sense it is because by doing so it's like you're trying to improve on what God gave you. Are you saying that what God gave you isn't good? Or good enough? That it needs improving on by tattooing or piercing or deforming yourself?

Because by doing that, that is basically what you're saying. And people need to realize this especially Christians. The world wont ever be able to understand and appreciate that though. Never! It will always be okay and "acceptable" for the world. But then so are so many other things as well like prostitution, same sex marriages and adult videos. But that's okay because it has the word "adult" as though it's okay to do as long as you're an adult. Oh the world really has it coming!

Am I wrong?

It's a good thing we're living in the age of GRACE!

Thank Jesus for saving us.

He makes all things new.

Including our bodies.

Plus this is all vanity anyway just like everything else under the sun.

I agree that God will not punish us for sins committed before we became His, however we are discussing sin willfully committed and that will not be pleasing to God.

JESUS CHRIST our LORD is our perfect example, did JESUS tattoos himself? For JESUS said, "...Learn from me....(Matt 11:29)"

Yes I can see why once you have tattoos, anyone saying that they don't make you look better in anyway would put you in that box and you'd have to defend that. Naturally.

But you misinterpret. I in no way said that it makes you any more a sinner than anyone else. We are all born sinners! Regardless to if you get a tattoo later on in life. It makes you no less or no more a sinner than anyone that doesn't.

My point of case on tattoos has already been said in this thread. And that anyone that loves God, loves all things from God, respect and honours those things, including his/her body. And until God tells you in a dream or in explicit words you can hear when you're awake and or see in a vision, to get a tattoo. One should not get a tattoo.

They are pure vanity! They are of the world! They show that you are of the world! You should not be of the world. You should be of God. Well, if you're born again anyway. Are you a born again Christian? But we should not love anything of the world. For the world and everything in it will pass away. Including the flesh on your bones and the tattoo thereof.

We should be keeping our eyes on Him and not "self worshipping" our bodies with tattoos.

When you are resurrected at Christ's return, you will have a NEW body.

And it will not have any of your tattoos on it!

I think Jesus also told us to love one another and so I do respect the opinions of others and even if I don't agree with them I will still love them. I would never be mean to someone because they got a tattoo because God's commandment to love one another is greater than all the others with the exception of the one telling us to love Him.

I'm not defensive because I have tattoos. Stop your self flattery. It's embarrassing. You are not anywhere near as learned nor intelligent as you might think you are. You just have a soap box about something silly, and I'm merely trolling you, and you took the bait like a fish. I'm sure you feel some sense of accomplishment in educating me, and if that's what helps you sleep better tonight, then so be it. It will be your story, and you can tell it any way you would like.

i recommend to anyone considering it to get some sharpie[SUP]®[/SUP] permanent markers first.
in fact, maybe get a set of fine-tip ones and just stick with those. Then you can change it up every 6 weeks or so. or give it up entirely.

Beside that the Biblical injunction is arguably specifically referring to a type of marking inexorably tied to pagan religious practices, and not really applicable to the cultural practices of Gentiles all over the world, the bottom line is that we are not under the covenant of the law of Moses.

This, then, is a question about what is wise, not about what is permissible. If you condemn your brother or sister for getting a tattoo once become a saint, then you may as well be condemning them for wearing mixed fibers or failing to report to Jerusalem for the yearly feast. In which case, what is Christ for?? Are we not made free?
Get yer covenants straight, plz.

And all of us, do what you do for God's glory, not your own. Maybe that includes a tattoo. post is not your judge
