I am confused about the accounts of various authors not coinciding. Somewhere it says something then i read the next author which has sonething else to say about it. Reminds me of muslim clerics i faced when i was in saudi. Also, i feel the author john is far too important in the whole NT. Jesus says he will not die till Jesus's 2nd coming. So, is john still alive now after nearly 2000 years
Jesus was using irony. He didn't say John would not die until Jesus returned.
Peter said "what about him" Jesus was basically saying
"what business is that of your's."
It's like if you had a friend who was not happy about his wages who said to your
boss "what will you pay him," meaning you!
Your boss might reply "that's my business I will pay him double, triple, wages if I
want to."It doesn't mean your boss will give you extra money it just means he was expressing
that it is none of your friend's business how much he pays you!
One of the things you will need to discover about the bible is that context means everything.
You say you study medicine. If I gave you written instructions to "amputate that person's arm"
but instead of reading the rest you went and did it! Then later on you might find out that the instructions
actuality said "amputate that persons arm if the gangrene spreads!
The two instructions are quite different.
Ps please don't go chopping off someone's arm
John 21:20-23 NKJV
[20] Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also
had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?"
[21] Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?"
[22] Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me."
[23] Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus
did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?"
