Who is or has been a nicotine addict, and what you do about it? I've smoked for over 20 years and am hopeless. The longest I've quit is a year. I tried vaping to quit awhile back and now I do both. I'm stuck.

My grandpa smoked for nearly all his life. But now the docters say that if he dosnt stop, he'll die. So now he is smoking e cigerets. It has helped. The e are better for you and stop your addiction. it helped with him.

I'm still stuck. The longest I've quit was 4 days. I'm running out of options too. My next one is Chantix. Considering the prescription cost more than the tobacco, I really hope it works.

I took chantix and I nearly lost my mind. It may have contributed to my wife leaving me.

I started smoking at 13 and never stopped until I made a true commitment to myself in my 20's,
when I discovered that I was losing my breath just walking up some steep steps, I made a decision
right then and quit cold turkey, but I will tell on myself, - of all the drugs that I have done, nicotine was
the most binding upon my mind, and it truly is a mind thing, I know this for sure, for I have had to detox
off of some terrible drugs, both prescription and non--prescription, including very powerful prescriptions
that many people cannot overcome until it kills them in one way or another...

ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD AND my own will power, coupled together in Love, am I alive to this day,
and, it is only to serve Him and our brothers and sisters...

Are you sure it wasn't from quitting smoking? I was wound so tight when I quit, the telephone rang and my butt came off the chair. My feet were crossed under me, so it wasn't them jumping.

I do know Chantix can cause night terrors. I'm hoping I'm not that person though (for a change.)

That's kind of half true though, b/c all an E cig does is avoid getting the tar in your lungs, I remember reading it still gives the same nicotine hit but I could be wrong ....it does definitely prevent the tar from getting inside your lungs though...

Have you tried the nicorette patches (skin)? A lot of people like using them for step down therapy till they finally get off the patch and it's nicotine fix for good...

I was a heavy smoker from about 1974-1984 and then spent a couple of years trying to cut down or quit. I finally got myself to quit cold turkey in 1986. It took about six weeks to get over the unpleasantness, both physical and psychological. I had a relapse in a few months, but it was just a weekend thing, and I haven't had a cigarette since, nor do I have any desire to smoke.

I used the patch, I just end up wearing 3 of them and still smoking. I just have this affinity for tobacco. It isn't just cigarettes. I love cigars and pipes too. Cigars are my favorite, but they cost so much at 2 dollars to sky's the limit apiece.

I heard Dr. Drew on the radio once said that nicotine wasnt what makes you sick, it was everything else in the smoke. I wish I could get a I.V. bag of nicotine hooked up to me all the time. He had another doctor on the show that was working on a study for a nicotine inhaler that will torque you up for hours on one shot, but the FDA was putting up a bunch of resistance.

Try to imagine how hard it must be for Jesus to breathe inside you, surrounded by all that nasty smoke.. :(

Then do whatever you have to, to quit smoking for good.

Lynn made a thread about addiction a while ago that I posted in, and I was lucky enough to find it right away by going through her profile page to threads she started (there was a lot there so I was glad to find it quickly :D)

My responses are there :) Champix I also tried, whoa, bad mistake, it gave me severe vertigo on day five, so I quit the drug right away but suffered the effects of vertigo for about six more months before it dissipated :p

Yeah. Although nicotine is a drug (it makes people more mellow), it is not a carcinogen.

The problem with the patch is Step One (the one that gives you the most nicotine) is great... if you smoke ten cigarettes a day. I'm too embarrassed to say how much I smoke, but I'm guessing since Tommy smokes both cigs and e-cigs that's more than ten a day.

I really wish there was a rehab for smokers. Lock me up for 3-4 weeks giving me absolutely no opportunity to get out to buy some, and then put me in a padding room so I won't hurt anyone.

I went through drug rehab and then worked for the place. I've heard many ex-druggies say that quitting heroin was easier. Quitting cocaine was easier. And those were the ones who truly did quit the drugs. If I had that to do over again, I would have quit smoking then too. I had only been smoking for two years then, and I was miserable anyway. I'm not sure I could get any more miserable so why not make it one big misery at once. And, had I done that, I would have been a nonsmoker for close to 40 years.

The advantage of having tried 24+ different kinds of drugs to reduce pain before finding something that helped. (I really didn't want to get stuck on a narcotic.) I've got the crawl-up-steps-because-I-couldn't-walk-up-them dizzies and yet bounced back when I gave up on the drug weeks later. If I was willing to be that dizzy in hopes I might have less pain months later (because they had to keep cranking up the levels until I could take it), I'm willing. Outside of a heart attack like hubby got (and that's how he quit -- he was unconscious for two months, and then unable to get out to have a smoke for another two months) or major miracle from God, Chantix is my last choice. I have officially run the entire gambit to quit.

The only way to quit is to stop. It takes 3 days for nicotine withdrawal to run the coarse, after there's only your psychological craving for the habit, if you want to quit, just do it
