Proverbs 20:1, Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
But I thought wine in those days was un-fermented??? lol

Do you all know the difference between Catholics and Baptists when it comes to alcohol? Catholics will actually acknowledge each other at the liquor store. :D
As the old catholic joke goes, where there are 4 priests there is always 1/5...

The scriptures states no drunkards will inhert God kingdom. I would draw the line at only drinking on special occasions. Too many people easily fall into addiction because they use alcohol to help cope with the problems in their lives.
Maybe it's not all air, after all. LOL Good post.

So are those that gossip in churches and tell their deacons boards they need to fire a pastor because they don't agree with him,....
I suppose the same could be said of anyone who commits a sin regularly.

The Bible: half the truth is no truth, cherry picked verses are not fruit, and whosoever tries to create their own Bible by doing the aforementioned is deceived and not wise

applies right across the board, not just to this topic, however, I am pretty sure that we are seeing a pattern here

alcohol can be a deadly, the same as legal and ill-legal drugs, over consumption of bad foods,
smoking, legal and ill-legal, technology, etc. the list just goes on and on...

the question we should always ask ourselves is, 'do any of these things separate us from
being the very best we can for Jesus?

[for me anyway] "There is nothing from without [outside] a man, that entering into him can defile [corrupt] him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. (Mark 7:14-23) this is v15. Likewise in (Matthew 15:10-11 & 15.20)

It is the intent of the heart of the person is what corrupt them: if the intent is to become intoxicated, then that is what came forth from the heart, and so it is with all things that we think, say, and do.

People lose control of themselves when intoxicated. In fact, some people function in complete "black-out" mode while intoxicated beyond a certain point. It is no accident that the word "toxic" is part of the whole equation. Alcohol is often a deadly poison that feeds the insatiable desires of the flesh.

"One is too many and a thousand never enough."

I have an occasional glass of wine, but if I never had any again I wouldn't miss it. When you want it every day, you could be headed for a problem.

People are often surprised to discover that the 12 step program of Alcoholics Anonymous was built on a Christian model with spiritual principles coming straight from Scripture. At its core is the development and maintenance of a personal relationship with God. Hundreds of 12 step fellowships have sprung out of the original from 1935, dealing with pretty much every problem imaginable. Millions have been helped to overcome a helpless and hopeless state of existence.

well....I'm pretty sure that anyone who is intoxicated is not being the "best they can be" for Jesus........UNLESS they are DRUNK ON NEW WINE!

Because that is what Jesus taught.

Prohibition, as stated before, doesn't work, for the most part.

Teach people HOW to live in Jesus, don't give them a bunch of "thou shalt nots"... we live by principles, not laws/rules.
...um, uh, er, wonder where the idea of "thou shat nots" came from? ....um, er, hmm

Every person alive lives by Laws/Rules......some have a set of principles they adhere to......BUT every person alive lives by a set of Laws/Rules

(just saying)

The fact is that not everyone has a problem with it.

Alcohol is not the problem. Alcohol is an inanimate object.

People are the problem.

Not everyone who drinks is drunk.
Not everyone who drives a car crashes.
Not everyone who owns a gun shoots people.
Not everyone who eats is fat.
Not everyone who works can't put it away when they get home.
Not everyone who has sex is a sex-addict.

But there are a percentage of the population that has a problem with every single one of those things.

My solution to all of these problems is the Lord Jesus Christ.

I really don't understand how people without Christ cope. Maybe that's why they have so many problems to begin with.
Of the examples you listed, which one has an IMMEDIATE and NEGATIVE effect upon a persons physical and mental abilities?

(I gave you a hint)

Proverbs 20:1, Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Facts:
83% of all fire fatalities in America are alcohol related
68% of all drownings are alcohol related
80% of all suicides are alcohol related
40% of industrial fatalities are alcohol related
65% of child abuse cases are alcohol related

The leading cause of mental retardation is alcohol use during pregnancy.

25,000 Americans die every year in alcohol related accidents. That's 70 per day.

And yet, Americans spend over 50,000,000,000 a year on alcohol consumption.

Should not we, the church, cry out against this killer and destroyer of families? Why preach moderation? We don't preach moderation when it comes to cocaine. What's keeping Christians in America from crying out against all alcohol use? Do we also want to drink that bad and blame it own "wine is good for the heart" or "it helps me relax." It's total nonsense. Let the facts speak for themselves.
Imagine if our Government placed the same restrictions/percentage of taxes on alcohol that they do on tobacco? :)

We learn from the Bible that it is okay to drink a little alcohol, but not okay to drink a lot. Where do you draw the line?
Why? Just leave it alone. It never helps anyone, it does do a lot of harm.

Proverbs 31:1-9 says, that it's not for kings and princes to drink wine or intoxicating drink, ( leaders, in home counts for family) it distracts and drags down.

Leave it out of your life. Don't even give the opportunity or the appearance of evil.

You hit the nail on the head Grandpa! MODERATION. I've met people who drink too much and have a drinking problem, then I've also met people who don't drink at all and have a problem with anyone who drinks at all. No balance. When it comes to drinking alcohol, I fall into the "drink in moderation" group.
Well, NOW I KNOW why my MAIL is DELIVERED in MODERATION!

p, your my friend, I respect you 100%, you are a solid brother in Christ, and I hope we can still be friends after this.

but southern Baptists are wrong about their anti-alcohol stance. it is not Biblical. drunkenness is a sin. having a drink is not. pay attention at the tailgates. look at the people yelling, cursing, spilling beer everywhere. then look at the folks quietly sipping on some wine, talking among themselves. don't lump them in the same boat, because it is not the same thing. sorry man. have to disagree with you on this.
