This thread has an hair of freshness to it. A couple of weeks ago, I got into a bit of a tangle. My usual hair stylist suddenly upped the price and decided to charge a pony for a men's haircut. Disappointed with his decision, I stomped off in a huff and went back to my old hair stylist. This guy is someone whom my grandpa visited. And so did my father. And so did I ..... until I turned 24. So you see, it used to be quite a tradition to go to that hairstylist .. nostalgia, memories of going there as a toddler with my dad or grandpa, whatnot..

Anyways.. so I wonder, do men and women everywhere frequent the same hairstylist that your parents did? Also, how often do you change your hairstylist? I didn't change mine until he decided to up the price!

Comb on guys, I would love to read your answers.

I'm actually quite flexible with stylists. There is a particular salon that I like and I usually just make an appointment with whatever stylist has an opening. I've had only good experiences at this salon so far so I'm not too concerned if I see different hairdressers each time. I've had some negative experiences at other places in the past though. Nothing is worse than getting a bad haircut I think most women, given the choice, would rather keep the same hairstylist and switch their family doctor or dentist, haha

I agree, except I don't do a full buzz, do a 3/8 on the sides, and 5/8 on the top for enough to comb to one side......a year back I shaved my head for the heck of it.....my shampoo use went down nothing to scrub/wash lol....

I've cut my own hair for like 3 years. My hair, when done professionally, looks like a fruity afro and I hated it. So I buzzed it myself lol. So...I guess I do frequent the same hair stylist lol.

My first hair cut as an adult was getting it all whacked off in boot camp. After that, I would just go get it cut on base.

As a civilian, I hopped around for a while with good and bad cuts. I eventually found this wonderful old Christian (that was not my criteria) Korean man who does a great job! Koreans have straight hair, and so do I, so he seems to "understand" my hair and that the hair on the left side of my head can be stubborn.

I have no idea what I will do when he retires.

When my daughter got old enough to care about who did her hair she asked me who she should go to... I didn't really go to a hair stylist as my hair is long and usually put it in a ponytail or cut it myself as well as cutting my daughters hair when she was little and it was long.

I told her look at ladies hair and when you see someone's hair that you like ask them where they get it cut. So she did and found a lady that ended up cutting both of our hair and coloring it for many years....

Lol Roh it's super easy! I stand in front of a mirror in my bathroom use the buzzer with 5/8 for an initial sweep around my whole head then the 3/8 clip for my sides and back of head.....to get the hair neckline trimmed in the back I feel with my hand/fingers for the hair neckline and just shave it to where my finger is...I use the mirror to adjust my ears both in the front and back with scissors...I then after showering let one of my family members check the neck line for straightness.....to this day I've nailed it everytime and never had to retrim/adjust it....yea I'm a bit weird but I guess I got hand skills/6th sense of hair trimming lol....

A cool trick I use sometimes is also to use my nose-hair trimmer to shape above my ears....it's like a pen pretty much and very easy to maneuver....The hardest part is the blended area between the 5/8in and 3/8in but this can be done by either using a 1/2in for the blend area or just going up and down in a jagged fashion but not above your hair's parting....that's how the guy in Willie-T's post got such a good "line" in between his flat top and fade on the sides....

You should cut your own hair Roh! I've been cutting my hair for myself since age 14 or so.....it just takes practice....of doing it a couple times and boom you can save money and do your own hairdo all at once...Plus if you have a haircut like mine there's less combing except for the top

Yes I cut it myself and I like it long on top and tapered to a buzz at the very lower edges. I used to have it cut and it was always a crap shoot because I think a lot of women haircutters these days dont know how to cut mens hair besides just shaving it all to one length with clippers...

So one day I bought a haircutting set from walmart and it came with a really good instructional video on VHS (of how to cut someone else's hair, not your own). The first couple of tries resulted in me having to get it 'fixed' at a salon and having to explain what happened ... but now I've got it down. I even clean up the edges which really makes it look professionally done.

Whoa, I don't think I will have the courage to cut my hair now. It would have been easier if I tried it when I was 14 because I had nothing to lose.

Too bad ... when I was 15, I was busy shaving my eyebrows.

I trim my own hair. It's not complicated, since it's straight and long. Just a little snip snip around the bottom, some layering, and finished. If I had a short cut, I'd definitely want to have it professionally cut, and I have no idea who I would use. The last stylist I used charged an arm and a leg for a cut that didn't look any better than I could have done myself.

When I was younger, my mother cut my hair, sometimes my dad, but after my dad cut it, my mom always had to fix it. When I moved off on my own, and needed a hair cut, I decided to go somewhere. I looked up a cost cutters, and went to the address. I didn't pay much attention to the building as I opened the door, but as soon as I stepped inside, I realized that something was wrong.

What I had stepped into was not a cost cutters, but something much scarier. There was the instant smell of hair products and other things, that to this day, I could not identify. There were a bunch of women all around, half of them setting in chairs, getting their hair, and nails done. As I started to turn around, a lady approached me.
"Looking for a haircut?" she asked seeming all too eager to get her hands on my head. Hesitantly I responded. "Yes."
"Well, we can take care of that." I was sure at this point, to specify what I was after, because I knew that if I didn't, I would come out with whatever hair style was popular.
I specified that I just wanted it shortened some, I didn't want a different hairstyle. What happened next, was something I wish I could purge from my memory.. After she had her way, I looked in the mirror, and I looked like justin beiber, before he was a thing. I paid the fee and made an exit. I drove straight to the store, bought a pair of scissors and cut my own hair. I have been cutting my own hair since* At first, it was a bit scary, not knowing if I would be able to do a good job or not, but it has worked well for me.

*The last haircut I got was actually done by my fiancée, and she did a really good job. I don't know if she'll do it next time, or if I'll do my own, but She did do a good job. :]
