Im working on one in spare time, it has no intended length, is is about a kid good with mechanics who makes himself a suit with some capabilities for his own reasons before the beginning of the story, basic jet boots, shooter, arms which can support weight.
As the story progresses, he learns he can use his invention to help people, and the more he does the more forces who hate people attempt to destroy him and/or the suit.
it's coming along pretty good, there's extra things which develop which are not in this description, for better or worse here's the opening scene, never shared it before and this is a rough draft, gonna try to cut out any swears:
He was very good with gadgets, he had basically made a suit for himself that gave him abilities to do things others could not do. This made him a target to those who did not want their evil to be thereatened though, spirits that saw his potential and did not want their influence challenged. So they were very close and tried to control him.
He was walking with a friend close to the border. A spirit in his head was trying to make him vow to not use his suit today. He felt like using it in any event would be in excess. Then that spirit took control of bear, and came charging their way.
“What do we do!” his friend yelled.
He felt very conflicted, should I use my gadgets, he thought as the bear came in for an attack.
“You know what, ***** it,” he thought. He grabbed his friend, clicked on his rocket shoes, and flew upward and backward out of reach of the bear.
“You promised,” he thought he heard in the bear’s roar.
“Thank you,” his friend said looking up to him as if he was an angel.
He looked down at his friend, then looked out, and decided this was good, so he flew them back into their town. But on the way he stopped. A spirit in the air yelled “How dare you, you little createn, use your powers on a day like today. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to feel guilt, he floated there, the spirit charged at him, his friend said let’s go, so he flew the rest of the way into town, and landed on the street, people looked at him as if an angel were landing, but he just carried on.
“I’m gonna buy us sodas,” his friend said seeing as they just landed next to a store. He went inside, picked out two sodas, meanwhile he was outside feeling questions from all the people around.
“So that suit allows you to fly?” one person asked.
“Yes, it does, and,” he explained, “it’s an all around personal protection device,” he went on, “it allows me to shoot a disabling plasma ball at threats,” he held his arm out and shot one out of his device off into the distance. “The design of the suit absorbs extra weight making it so I can lift things I normally could not.” He bent over and punched a hole in the pavement. “I’ve got holsters built in for a variety of close combat weapons in case Im ever in a fight. And there’s even more cool things it can do.”
His brother came out of the store and handed him a soda, he lifted his mask and started drinking it.”You ready to get out of here?” he asked.
Steven said “yes,”and they both took off.
“You know, people think that suit is really cool,” his brother said to him while they walked, “You shouldn’t be so afraid to use it,” he said.
“I just don’t want to use it as a cob out,” he said.
“It’s not a cob out,” he said, “you figured out how to be able to do things most people don’t figure out how to do, and you have every right to do them now as you please, and there’s no reason to feel guilty over that.”
“I just don’t want people to think Im taunting them,” he said.
“No one thinks that,” he said, “all those people thought it was really cool, and probably the most disappointing thing they could hear is that someone has this ability but barely uses it,” he went on, “Any one of those people would want to hear that you use the suit daily, it’s really cool, and not one of them would want to hear that it’s potential is being wasted.”
“But you must never get to that point,” he heard whispered into his other ear.
Again rough draft, not adapted for sharing really
