Everywhere you go, EVERYONE says, "like oh my god!!!111" And other similar phrases. Personally every time I hear it, I shudder. I sometimes do it, but I force myself not to, and so do it only on very rare occasions when something bad has happened and I can't control myself.

But people in modern society, (especially young people) say it every 5 minutes, for no reason at all. I picture God as saying, "Leave me alone already, you don't even believe in me, stop saying my name". LOL.

Anyway, do people agree?

yea i know i hate when ppl say it i've never said it (unless i did when i was very young , which i highly doubt since my parents never said it when i was little)
to be honest i think i would far rather people to curse than use the Lords name in vain , like as christians were meant to follow Gods commandments . Which upsets me when u still here ppl on here say oh my G** or OMG etc

Sometimes I think the expression, “Oh, my God!” can be an emotional outburst. Once I was on an icy road and nearly lost control of my car and exclaimed, “Oh, my God!” out of fear.

But I do agree with you. People will start sentences with the Lord’s name, such as, “God, it’s hot out!” which I think is painful to the Lord.

In that situation (and similar), I think its okay. Why? Because you're calling on the Lord in your time of trouble.

Anything else though, not so much.

I agree. That is the only time I do it. It does sometimes slip too, but its something I try to fight. Most people, and get this, NON Christians say it every 2 minutes. It means nothing to them. God is a curse word to them. Its really horrible.

I've never said it, and I made fun of ma sister for saying "Oh my gosh." I'm like "You have a gosh?!?1 I had no idea, can I see it!?!?"

But yeah, i dislike it, too. My friends know I disapprove, and one time ma gf started saying it, and I pointed it out to her, and she stopped totally ^_^ But yeah, it really is sad =(

whenever i hear a non beleiver say "JESUS CHRIST" in angst i just point out whats He got to do with it, what did He have do to with it for you to say that, alot of the time, not always they seem convicted lol of course in love i say that, not indignation
out of that evil comes good cause they then ask us why i believe, dont swear go church etc etc, i never feel disgusted, just use it as an oppourtunity to share Jesus with them, if i was too busy by being offended over the remark i would miss the oppurtunity to share, again as i said, this doesnt necessarily work with everyone.

The worst is when I hear kids say it.

People use curse-words because they have impact. In a round about way non-believers recognize the potency of God's name, maybe on an unconscious level, which perhaps the reason why saying His name in vain has been around for years. Even though it's not good it does give testimony to the power of God's name.

OMG can mean Oh My Gosh, or Oh My Goodness.

The spirit within them wants to desecrate Christ. That's what satanic worship is all about, desecration. Christ must be very important to get desecrated so much. Amongst us Christians, we don't bother giving the Devil that kind of attention.

I have worked so hard on not saying omg that it's pretty easy for me. I did just win a family 4-pack concert tickets to see Toby Mac & Casting Crown on KLTY radio for May 1st,,,,and I did say OMG but I had just prayed and started to fumble with my phone, hit the wrong button,,,,etc,,, and God sent a peace over me that calmed me down and He said you were meant to hit the wrong button-otherwise you would be the wrong caller. When the phone rang and they said "You are caller #9" I blurted it out. So, I am standing on the fact that it was a praise instead of just a habit.

While saying OMG is not good, I believe what the bible really means is not to use God's name which is the word "Yahweh" without upmost respect and dignity. In translations the word LORD in all caps refers to this name. They did not say Yahweh, instead they chose to say the word LORD out of respect. It's not good to use the word God loosely, but I just wanted to reply with a little deeper clarification on what God's name REALLY is.

Also just a thought that when people say JC or OMG at least they're, in a way, acknowledging that their is a God and a Jesus with some sort of power behind it...though rough and misguided.

I do not consider a person saying OMG as the lords name in vain. I see a person takes the Lord's name in vain when they use it to get them what they want. Such as manipulate and control people using his name. I also see it as an intent of a person to fulfill a vain purpose. However...I can feel for those sensitive individuals who feel it as an offensive remark. Though to them they might note that: OMG can also just mean -this is something I say in place of roll my eyes and look at my fake nails.

But I am so happy we talked about this. Now we can address the individuals who are using the Lords name to manipulate and control people on a larger scale. Like totally focusing out...

I love that you pointed this out to her. When i 1st met my hubby b4 becoming a christian my every 2nd sentence included the lords name in vain. The first time i did it in front of him he said "WHAT.... DID... YOU ... JUST SAY???" I CANT BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT. I'd never before been taken to task on my language and you know what... since that day, I havent said it again. (i consolidated em all into the f word for quite some time.... what a dirty filthy heathen i was lol) I say oh my goodness... I do say dear Lord... like "dear Lord how could she endure that?"... not sure how others feel about that? kinda curious as I dont see it as blasphemy, I see it as including the lord in the convo but have wondered if perhaps even that is wrong.

Yes. Ive heard Jesus' name used as an expletive several times in movies and television. I can see how in movies they can say what they want but prime-time television should be more sensitive. Whats incredible is if they made a reference to allan or mohammed there would be an outrage from the muslim community and even death threats. Im not saying christians should do that but its interesting that its considered OK to offendchristians.

There's no difference between saying Oh My God and Oh My Gosh.

Your intentions are still the same, you just manage to pull out at the last minute.

I hear or see my Lords name taken in vain on a daily basis. I feel it & when I read those initials that people use in online talk I think the actual words. These words get stuck in my brain & I have to rebuke this and say get behind me satan. So when you post OM... know that when I read it I have to work at not having it effect me. Some think its no big deal just as I thought saying my God swear word & my Jesus swear were no big deal... after all I wasnt actually thinking about God or Jesus when I'd say them. Wrong, it is a big deal.
