I'm sorry, but in all good conscience I just can't agree that heavy metal, even with Christian lyrics is not sinful. It is angry, it is not self-controlled, it supports worldly themes that go against God- such as long hair on men, banging their head around, gothic style dress, it is not gentle, the extra fast beat raises blood pressure and is scientifically proven to cause heart problems including massive and deadly heart attaches. The loudness is rude, and rude is the opposite of love, and God is love so it is ungodly. If you are playing this in the hearing of someone who can't avoid it, and they develope heart problems, you are responsible. And to do such in the name of Christ?
then don't listen to it. But take these matters to The Lord. It is so easy to judge by appearances, but God judges the heart. When we judge by what it appears to us we are no different than the Pharisees. Sometimes we move in the spirit of Michal -- and don't even know it --- because we have false preconceptions of what is holy --- and what is profane.

ask God to help you.

2 Samuel 6

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. [SUP]13 [/SUP]When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. [SUP]14 [/SUP]Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, [SUP]15 [/SUP]while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. [SUP]18 [/SUP]After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. [SUP]19 [/SUP]Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”
[SUP]21[/SUP]David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. [SUP]22 [/SUP]I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”
The type of dancing David did was a dance that was not at all even close to the head banging, moshing, out of control "dancing" these rockers do today. The Spirit of God was on him, and it was a beautiful dance. The Spirit of God will not attach himself to out of control banging of the head and wreckless body movement.

God has beautiful music-worship to choose from.
Certain types of worldly or secular music leave souls unfulfilled,
while music harmonious with life is edifying, builds heart, mind,
soul, stature:

one important question to ask - is the style of praise & worship drawing more attention to God, or the performer?

when the show is over, do people want to run out and grab their bibles, or buy t-shirts & cd's?

((was it the style of music sunday morning? was that the problem?))

Look,
He’s covered in dirt,
and the blood of His mother has mixed with the earth,
and she’s just a child who’s throbbing in pain
from the terror of birth by the light of a cave.

Now they’ve laid the small Baby
where creatures come eat
like a meal for the swine
who have no clue that He
is still holding together the world that they see,
they don’t know just how low,
but He has to go
lower still.

Look, now He’s kneeling,
He’s washing their feet!
Though they’re all filthy fisherman:
traitors, and thieves!

Now He’s pouring his heart out
and they’re falling asleep,
but He has to go lower still.

(and we all said in unison…)

There is greater love to show!
Hands to the plow!
Further down now!
Blood must flow!

All these steps are personal!
All His shame is ransom!

Oh do you see?
Do you see just how low
He has come?
Do you see it now?
No one takes from Him
what he freely gives
away!

Beat in His face;
tear the skin of His back.
Lower Still

Strip off His clothes;
make Him crawl through the streets.
Lower Still

Hang Him like meat
on a criminal’s tree.
Lower Still!

Bury His corpse
in the earth like a seed
like a seed, like a seed
Lower Still!

Lower Still, lower Still, lower Still, lower Still.

The earth explodes, she cannot hold Him!
And all therein is placed beneath Him.
And death itself -
- no longer reigns!
It cannot keep the ones He gave Himself to save.

And as the universe shatters,
the darkness dissolves.
He alone will be honored;
we will bathe in his splendor as

ALL HEADS BOW LOWER STILL

Why rag on people that don't like it?

I can not stand it for 10 seconds. All I want to do is get away from it.

And if you can discern the lyrics, you got a gift, cause I can not make out any of the words.

I can not make out any of the words.
saying that, i know you didn't listen to the song i put above
or at the least, you're not talking about it in particular.
it's sung very clearly and skillfully. :)
((and played skillfully, with a loud noise: as per Psalm 33:3))

Why rag on people that don't like it?
for sure, amen!
and vice versa.

but it's not a question of "
preference" here but whether someone has the right to judge and condemn something used to glorify the Lord just because it's not a pipe organ or violin, and much worse, to condemn those who receive such spiritual songs thankfully, just because one persons faith is too weak to bear a distorted guitar or a certain chord, tempo or melody. that's just plain judging by appearances, which should be an obviously wicked and foolish thing to do.

question:

should the style of music fit the mood and tenor of the lyrics being sung?

I almost feel my skin crawl whenever I attend a church service where a fast- paced happy song is sung slowly and almost as if people are in a stupor. Makes me want to go to the microphone and ask "is this how you feel about God?"

The fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control- heavy metal is not these things. Put the lyrics aside and play it on mute- it is harsh, thrashing around, angry, screaming, worldly, not orderly, not peaceful, not patient, not gentle, not controlled. It is not something that Jesus would do.

Aside from this, it bothers many Christian's consciences, and the Bible says if it bothers your brother's conscience do not do it. So either way, it is a sin.

To me it is like putting a bible verse on a cigarette, and saying it's ok to smoke it cause it's a Christian cigarette. But it is still worldly and I can't see Jesus doing it. EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything, even the Bible, can be used for good or evil- clothing, books, movies, music, etc. Heavy Metal is using music for evil.

I saw an experiment on tv. Scientists took the same plant, split it and potted it in two different pots, and put each in two different rooms. To one they played classical music, to the other they played heavy metal. The one with the classical music thrived, the one with the heavy metal music died. I highly doubt the lyrics made any difference in this test. God is life, evil is death- heavy metal is evil.

Even the phrase "Christian Metal" doesn't sound right. As the scriptures says don't mix the holy with the profane. Especally with the origins of rock / metal music in which case many artist admitted their music was influenced by spirits. If that's how you decide to worship then that's your choice.

Amen! I actually play Christian metal (as well as other genre's of Christian music), It is the message that counts, not the instruments that are used to make it.

This is uninformed at best. Do some research, The facts are not subjective.

Is the anointing on it? That's the test. Of course many christians don't know the anointing of the Spirit from the excitement of the flesh being brought to a frenzy by the beat of drums and the guitar ampage.
No point of reference if they never felt the presence of God.

His anointing is no longer blessing cburch buildings of late. He has departd the building taking with Him those that have grown a clue and are grieving over the state of churchianity. So the rockers have come in to fill the void with entertainment along with myriad of programs coffee and rolls. Seeker friendly defined is, ear tickling.

The Holy Spirit has been quenched long ago and rushing in to take His place is the counterfeit.

You say I'm judging? You bet. We are commanded to 'discern the spirits' and make righteous judgment. Other wise we'd be drinking all kinds of coolade. And the 'church' is drunk on coolade.

So one saint says rockin heavy metal blesses them. Another saint hears it and gets a gut ache.

I report. You decide. By the way. I am a musician. Lately i've even been convicted of a few songs i recorded years ago that were long on 'rock' and short on 'Spirit'. I'm trying to get them deleted from on line.

Who is being glorified? The band....or Jesus?

The devil has an anointing also.

Now lets talk about 'christian homos'. Thats being accepted also in many quarters. Wake me up when you get there.

I love my Christian metal… I grew up on death meatal, music like Yngwie Malsteen. And I do associate it with my lifestyle at that time; I’m from sex, drugs, and rock & roll… before salvation. It’s “funny” though, not ha, ha, funny, but ironically funny. If I were to listen to something off the Ride the Lightning album I would remember in detail just the “crazy” back, then. I have not listened to secular music in 20+ years, and I have not quit listening to heavy metal. When I listen to Deval Wears Prada, Red or As I Lay Dying, I have never think of my old lifestyle.

Music is simply a matter of personal taste. I love praise and worship music too. But I hated rap music back in the day and I hate all Christian rap music. Not because Christian rap is bad, it’s not my thing… ever. If someone wants “true” Biblical worship music, then it’s the Jewish music from the Bible area. I bet Y-shua likes what He grew up on just like every other human. So in my opinion they are "all wrong” in the "right" type of music that is pleasing to the Lord.
