The term used... "OP" stands for either "original post" or "original poster"..... usually used to refer back to, well, the original post in a thread.

Not that our threads have a tendency to wander off topic, though....:rolleyes:

Another thing some "newbies" don't notice is the "reply with quote" button, right beside the "reply" button. Unless you are simply making a "general" comment, it's good to use that button, so others will know which poster/reply you are responding to.

Hello Tania, welcome to Christian chat! :) There are people on this site who will argue with you over who carried the superior message of peace: Jesus or Muhammed. They may even call themselves Christians. We had one member here spreading his damnable heresies, including pushing the idea that Jesus Christ actually was Mohammed, for almost four years. He was quite a nasty piece of work; why he was allowed to stay so long is quite beyond me. Now we have certain sets of beliefs always coming up against the opposing view, each side claiming to be Scriptural and the proper interpretation and applicable to all. This is probably why we were told as young 'uns that religion is never to be discussed in polite society: it can get quite heated and personal. I hope you enjoy your time with us :D

The above OP event has become so prevalent lately. Pick any islamist atrocity, then rope in "all" religions, then explicitly attack Christianity. This is called "forced moral equivalency" and it irritates me too. It has become a go-to move for militant atheists, and its logic is thorough fallacy. Unfortunately, people seem to tolerate (even mimic) this stunt. It has become fashionable when directed at Christians. (ever notice how it never runs in the other direction, e.g. from Westboro>"all religions">Islam?). Truly, as others have commented, what is bad is becoming "good" and what is good is becoming "bad". Just as predicted...

I hope you like it here on CC, despite all the abbreviations and heated discussions. Seeing as you can write, I hope you like this place enough to stick around.

I immediately replied: "Christianity is not a religion of hate. Christianity does not teach or advocate hate, intolerance and violence. Christianity is about love and forgiveness." After writing this I was instantly attacked that my statement was untrue and that I was the same as Moslems who repeat the oft cliched statement that "what happened to the poor woman was not true Islamic behavior,"
I was attacked by several people for my statement on Christianity and only received 5 votes, whereas the first commenter who gladly blamed all religions, and accused Christians of hating Jews and Moslems received a grand total of 190 up votes!

I'm not surprised because like I mentioned earlier Christianity has become quite unpopular in the world today, and Christian voices are being stifled and we are almost treated like criminals.
Atheists who claim to be tolerant, yet treat Christians badly and unfairly exhibit the same spirit/character traits that they accuse Christians of having. Its quite ironic when you think of it.
If only everyone would follow the example of Jesus and uproot hate from their hearts, there would be peace and harmony in the world.

Hi Tania.. You must distinguish between Christianity (following a religion) and Christ-in-anity (following the Person). The former is as deadly as any religion. The latter reveals Christ.

They will hate both. The first because it is like them. The second because it reproves them

I absolutely disagree with this statement.

Christianity, even as "following a religion" is not even comparable to Islam.
Nowhere did Jesus tell his followers to kill anyone that doesn't accept his message.
Nowhere did he say that it was acceptable to lie to unbelievers in order to deceive them into thinking we are their friends.

Christianity, even followed mechanically, is a true religion of peace.

Islam? Not so much...

Thats so cool we have similar sounding names, lol. Yes, I agree with you that followers of most religions, the big four I have to mention—Islam, Judaism, Christianity and Catholicism, have a tendency to have that superior air about them. (My religion is the ultimate true and correct one and everything else is false and stupid). And then look down on or ridicule other religions which is what you experienced and what I've experienced as well. I can't speak for other religions but sometimes Christians can have that haughty spirit and fail to realize that we need to be like Jesus—humble, forgiving, understanding and tolerant like Him, as He visited the tax collectors' homes, and mingled with all classes of people, prostitutes etc, without pride, we should follow His example.

I understand what you're saying, and would like to bring two verses to your attention: Isaiah 33:22 which says that Jesus is the lawgiver, and another one: Isaiah 42:21 which says that Jesus came to magnify the law. So if Jesus framed the laws of Christianity and He Himself followed them, then we who follow Christ directly follow His laws. There's no difference between the two, they are one and the same.
Problems arise when Christians take God's law and distort them to serve their own purposes, and/or be hateful toward others who don't follow Jesus' Law as they(the ones who've distorted them) see fit. I hope I got my point across clearly, and agree with you that non-Christians who harden their hearts will hate Him, His laws and those who follow Him.

Hi Magenta! Thank you for your warm welcome :) Sorry to hear about what happened with the man on here, I hope and pray he has had more study of God's word and the scales have fallen from his eyes. We can only pray and hope for the best when people like him are misguided.

Regarding my experience, it happened on a different site, not this one. It is an extremely popular site out there, not sure if I should mention names, but apparently (I found out later the hard way) the site attracts many atheists, LGBT, people who post lengthy diatribes attacking Christians in general. Now I'm sure they've had bad experiences with certain Christians, and I'm not disputing that fact, but they have a tendency to place ALL Christians in the same basket/category, and for me this was a problem, and clearly incorrect way of thinking on their part.

So when I tried to explain that ALL Christians are not this way, and cannot be placed in the same basket with extremist/fanatical Christians and also thrown along with extremist Moslems(which was what was stated in a comment) I was attacked for saying this by several people on that site. Most who attacked me were outspoken Atheists.
And yes, I do agree, whenever religion is involved, things tend to get heated between people, I've noticed this also happens with politics :)

Hi Connock! Thank you and yes, I hope to stick around and have more informative discussions and share testimonies. You are completely right with your statement: "Pick any islamist atrocity, then rope in "all" religions, then explicitly attack Christianity."

This is exactly what happened on that particular website, and when I dared to state that militant Atheists are also capable of doing atrocities, you can well imagine the reception I received, lol! I dared to point out the facts of history—the genocides during Stalin and Mao Zedong's dictatorship, Nero's reign of terror, and in recent history, the Columbine killings in Colorado—all by Atheists. I received ZERO votes and no replies for any of my statements. I'm sure they were livid with me, lol.

Hello again, Tania :D Yes, I understand you were talking about a different site :) I spent eight years on two different sites speaking mostly to various non-believers before coming here just over a year ago, so I know what it is like :D I was just making an observation and sharing with you the fact that there are all types of people here, too :) How anyone can mix Islam and Christianity is perplexing but they do :eek: Beware the Chrislamists :p At least with world events being what they have the last year or so, people are not bleating about Islam being a religion of peace as much as some used to. Their ideal person is an adulterous war mongering pedophile. People are being arrested and charged with committing criminal offenses for telling the truth about Mohammed. We certainly live in interesting times :)
