How do you explain the current president and his former Secretary of state wanting to ban or stop the transfer of a certain type of common firearm and ammunition feeding devices that contain more than a certain amount of ammunition?

He, like Reagan and Bush before him, gives in to some extent to the emotional appeals of people who misplace blame for so many deaths in our society. Republicans have done this every bit as much if not more than Democrats but it is the latter who get blamed for it by right wingers.

As for me, being a former member of the NRA and big believer in the teachings of our Founders, I remain consistent in the application of my ideals - it is our duty to support, maintain, and in some cases, strengthen the 2d Amendment. That will stop street gangs, stop police genocide upon minorities, and insure safer streets for all.

I agree. the gun owners protection act of 1986 signed by Reagan was a tragedy. Although it restricts the ability of the government to maintain a weapon registry, we should not have lost the right to transfer machine guns constructed after may 19, 1986. And I took issue with w. Bush pledging to sign a renewal of the awb of 1994. Thats why I have never thought of those two as particularly conservative or as I would perfer a politician to be a "classical liberal."

I understand that well over one million people die every year from road traffic accidents. Improved mass transit would cut that down by a tremendous percentage. But pols from neither party speak about that when they should. It is true that we need to stop talking so much about gun control and need to emphasize much needed improvements in our society.

I don't know if its that high. I wrote a paper on this in college and I think it was about 48k, but that may have been only the number killed in crashes due to alcohol impairment. I can't remember. A million seems like a bit high.

Yes, America is in a mess, because you have two candidates you cannot trust, and weighing who is more wicked, I truly believe Trump is the one who comes out as the winner in this contest!
