some people won't watch any movies at all

does that make them a better Christian than you?
No not in the least, it's got nothing to do with who is better than who.

how do we aspire to a higher 'being' every day and what is a higher 'being'?
Jesus, our Saviour. He left us His word, the bible for the ultimate guide in this!

I would say that how we treat people is far more important than what kind of an outward show we put on

wouldn't you?

Absolutely. There's outward shows vs earnest, sincere discussions about what is right and wrong in establishing how we can follow the ways of the world vs following Him.

that's all very religious sounding, but if one looks around in these forums, it will be seen that there are disagreements just about...make that every...aspect of life in Christ
It's got nothing to do with being 'religious sounding' and everything to do with learning about what the Lord would want us to do not just for ourselves but for our role in world that doesn't glorify God nearly as much as it should.

seems like you are picking here and I cannot see any good coming from it

This is a discussion forum where things are usually hashed out, not a matter of picking. I'm glad to hear you don't partake in halloween, I hope you inspire your friends in their journey with Christ too!

you know, whatever miss charlotte

I think you are making a big deal because it is a big deal to you personally...so that is your world...not the world of everyone else

when I was kid...halloween was not the big thing it is today

everybody went out...Christian or not

now everyone questions everything...it's all the devil, it's all wrong and everything is pagan

motives should not be judged however, and I think that is all too often a line that gets crossed in some of these discussions

and that just keeps the anger going...that is why I have said maybe just stop your nitpicking

whatever...I guess we can just ignore it

it is just silly...how many have been convinced to do other than what they had already planned to do?

I guess I was not clear enough

I was saying, you appear to think some movies are ok

my point was some Christians think NO movie is ok

so, your point of view may be sinful to some

that's my actual point

and final point too...cause it's obviously not being considered anymore than your points are

LOL!

I don't celebrate it, but I used to and I sure did have a lot of fun. The last year I actually celebrated it my dad took my sister and I trick or treating and the next day my mom was in a car accident that should have taken her life (according to EMT's) but it didn't. However it did make me lose my joy of doing anything related to Halloween. I did go to a couple harvest parties but only as a chaperone, other than that nothing about this holiday interests me.

It doesn't bother me that people do celebrate it because it's their thing and I respect their decisions just as I hope they respect mine

Yes but you don't repeatedly and self-righteously shove your opinion down our throats, as some here have done.. :)

There's plenty of other members you'll find in this thread, in others and those around you on your soil (and I think other countries too) who perhaps don't regard it as a 'big deal' so to speak but definitely discussion worthy, much like the op here.

Here's a pastor giving a great sermon on it, have a watch when you get a spare chance:

Sure, but with time we usually evolve, we develop our critical thinking and find ways to see through the enemy and draw closer to the Lord in our commitment to Him.

If you feel at some point your actual motives were judged then I apologize, but again, just like many other members on this site and Christians you'll find in society, have a discussion about this has nothing to do with nitpicking. If you so choose, you can learn so much, people can shed light on an issue for you or teach you things about scripture you previously weren't aware of. That's how i chose to see it and am all the more better off for it.

I see what you mean. You've actually made a good point here that was highlighted quite well earlier. The enemy can take anything and manipulate it to either end of the spectrum. The good news is that we have the truth of the Lord, our Saviour, in our bible. This is an excellent place to start, although we often need help in understanding, to know whether something is right or wrong and how the enemy can attempt to manipulate our flesh if we're not doing everything we can to be strong in the Lord who will always give us that much needed discernment in walking life's path.

I trust my point has been made....This is an individual conscience thing....Christians who have a personal conviction against, should be respected as well as those Christians who think...ya know...not a real big deal....

When I was a kid back in rural Oklahoma in the early-mid 70's, our local rural school put on the Halloween party, we had all sorts of games, bobbing for apples, cake walks, and a spook house with harmless gags.....the interesting thing was that all churches were there as well...The Baptists, Methodists, CoC, Lutherans, AOG, and Presbyterians.....

DOnt look at me like that!!!!! how in blue blazes do you think we got all the cakes for the cake walks!?!?!?

OH and homemade popcorn balls were to die for...the Methodist Mom's made those better than anyone....

There was no blood, gore, demons, devils, if there were vampires or werewolves, they were harmless looking creatures....In fact, if you dressed up bloody, gore, devil, or too terrible, you had to go change....School administration made the call...not the Pastors or were always around eating cake.....

Oh and yeah it was not a Harvest Party, it was called a Halloween Party......

lighten up folks....
