Why are some churches (personal experience) teaching people, to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (gift of divers tongues) is simply repeating certain word phases quickly to receive their Baptism.........this is not of faith and I personally believe dangerous to the person seeking the Baptism. Where is the faith? : Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Its mind boggling.

Isa 29:13 says that people's worship of God is of man made rules and traditions. He also calls these worshippers hypocrites. It seems the only way God wants us to worship him is from his word and not the word of this church vs that church's traditions and doctrines.
Faith is not something that is blind, instead it is described as the complete opposite, through understanding and being certain. (Heb 11:1-2)

all believers have the holy spirit once you lay hands on them and they accept God. Speaking in tongues is just the holy spirit speaking through you. You can be speaking in English and the holy Spirit taking the lead. people gotta stop focusing on speaking all them languages. We should rather desire prophesy. Tongues is one of the things that brings lots of division in the body of Christ because people just dont wanna get what its about.
We don't need to have hands laid on us to have the Holy Spirit. That's an old Pentecostal belief which stems from the scripture that Paul laid his hands on those in Ephesus and then they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
There are many instances in scripture where no hands were laid on people and they received the Holy Spirit or more accurately had a "filling of the Holy Spirit".
The Holy Spirit is not the one doing the speaking ( that's another old Pentecostal myth ) - He gives the utterance ( the ability to speak ) but it is the people themselves that are doing the speaking and it's an act of our will.
We choose to speak with our spirit and we can choose to speak with our mind. This is the devotional tongues - not the tongues used with interpretation in a church setting.
There are 2 aspects to speaking in tongues. This speaking in tongues with interpretation is as the Spirit wills and not man.
Notice in the scripture the "I will's" for the devotional tongues whether praying with our spirit or with our mind.

We need "The Golden Bells (The Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the spirit) and the Pomegranates (The Fruit of the Holy Spirit that gives us victory over sin) Exodus 28:34 NIV. If you have two bells and no fruit bouncing against each other you have 1 Corinthians 13:1, clanging cymbals.

Now that you are saved, you should ask the Lord to baptize you with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).
While it is certainly true the Holy Spirit came into your heart and life the moment of your Salvation, still, He now wishes to endure you with power from on high. Consequently, Jesus told all of His followers immediately before His Ascension, that they should "wait for the Promise of the Father" (Acts 1:4). He was speaking of being "Baptized with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 1:5).
You must understand that there is a great difference in being "Born of the Spirit" than being " Baptized with the Spirit." They are two different works altogether.
To be "born of the Spirit" is that which took place at your conversion, as the Holy Spirit brought you to Christ and performed the work of regeneration within your heart and life (sanctification). To be "Baptized with the Spirit" is in order that you may have Power with God (Acts 1:8). Every Believer should ask the lord to fill them with the Holy Spirit, and expect to receive (Luke 11:13).

I was filled with the Holy Spirit without anyone laying hands on me and I know of many just like me.
This doctrine that you can only be filled by the laying on of hands is for the birds.
Sometimes the Lord uses the laying on of hands to release people into things and as a blessing. We see Jesus laying His hands on children as well as for administering healing in some cases.
I'm not against the laying on of hands - I simply said it is not needed to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit. Check out Acts 10 - they were all filled with the Holy Spirit without Peter laying his hands on them.

I am at a pentecostal church but i certainly arent defined by it pencostals need to repent like any other denomination #let the Lord teach me#
I have heard testimonies of people being filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues while they were taking a quiet bath alone. We carnal humans are always trying to put God in a theological box - it never works...lol
I don’t know if I understand your question, but the topic of speaking in tongues always interests me.
The original purpose of speaking in tongues was that people could spread the Gospel to people who spoke different languages, wasn’t it?
What is the purpose today? People utter seemingly intelligible words and claim they are speaking in tongues. Is there someone in the room interpreting what they say? If not, why should we believe they are speaking in tongues?
[27] If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn; and let one interpret.
[28] But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God. 1 Cor 14:27-28 RSV

Pentecost came and they received power from on high.
that power ceased per The Plan exactly as Paul said it would....when we have everything we need, when that (revelation) which is complete has come:

why do people who obviously do not know the facts about their chosen topic ask questions as though they might actually consider an answer different then the one they already hold near and dear to their hearts?
it IS mind boggling how folks can ignore scripture and yet try to tell others who have a different and SCRIPTURAL experience to the contrary, that they are wrong

God IS Spirit...He does not reside only in the pages of scripture..we define the truth through those pages, but we can also EXPERIENCE that same truth
