am i the only one that thinks its a bit weird that so many universities use evil mascots, demons, demon deacons, devils, red devils, blue devils etc.
good mascots . . . .cant think of any. no angels, prophets, mighty men, etc. there are a handfull of small schools such as paladins, crusaders, but they are tiny schools that you never see on tv.

No. Mascots are typically designed to have an intimidating tone, generally for their sports teams. It actually makes sense.

yeah your probably right, when teams hear intimidating names like golden flashes, golden gophers and buckeys, its a wonder they dont run back to the bus.

to add to what ugly said...using 'angels' or 'prophets' as mascots is generally seen as misappropriating and cheapening religion and therefore offensive...so it is avoided...

all of your small private theology schools use them. im talking about the bigger, state funded schools that play ball on tv, the ones in the public eye.

Does that indicate anything to you about the worldly world we live in?

:)
